It is very hard to answer that without falling into stereotypes, and I don't know what exactly is the situation in North America, but from my own observation and experience I've concluded that many white people tend to think videogames are for squishy socially awkward nerds who would get blown up by even the wind while playing physical sports is healthy and cool; on the other hand, most asian people tend to think videogames are fun, self-improving, creative and fulfilling, while physical sports are for dumb braindead bigorexic kids. Of course this is just a generalization and a display of nasty stereotypes but again from my own experience sadly it happens to be more true than false. I'm of mixed heritage so I've lived both realities. I don't know about other ethnic groups. Sorry for off-topic.
