HoG is a shitty item where you pay 900g for like 475g in stats. It's terrible. You don't need more hp on Nunu. Instead you could have had a full 900g of actual stats that actually do something. It's like locking the gold it takes up upgrade itself away in a bankvault for the next 15 min (the time it takes to HoG to pay for itself) and being useless instead of doing something with that gold to win now.
Kage makes your consumer stronger and much more stat efficient compared to HoG. If you need more HP, consume more things. You don't need the DFG. You could even skip Kage if you want and go straight for the Athenes. HoG is a great item. You pay 825g for 528g in stats and you get the gold generating bonus. You need more hp on Nunu when laning versus true damage. What else could you get for 825g ? What use does Athenes give to Nunu ?

And what does Athene give nunu... im sorry but if you have no clue what your talking about plz dont comment. The CDR is huge. The mana is huge considering how much nunu can spam. the AP is good and MR is always nice. Athene has everything a top nunu could want in 1 item.

Nunu uses everything Athenes gives him? MRes to tank, CDR to spam snowball+consume heal and have your Ult up more often and with CDR you can keep two targets Bloodboiled all the time. Mana regen to spam skills in lane without worrying about your mana pool. That's the key item on top lane Nunu.
HoG is terrible. You spend 350g to get 20 more hp. That's terrible. Sure you get gold generation. That's like saying you want to spend 350g to get it paid back to you over the next 15 min instead of using that gold to win NOW. Sure after 15 min you profit. But in 15 min you let the other guy get back into the game because you spent gold on not winning instead of winning and getting ahead. And Nunu already has great base hp stats anyway. You need resists. Stacking hp doesn't help anymore. Daris has a true damage ult, sure. You know what else counters that? Never getting low enough hp in the first place to let him kill you with Ult thanks to resists and killing him 1v1 instead.

CDR, AP and mana regen for all the consumes you need. Nunu's already tanky of his own, he doesn't need many items to get tankier. With consume's 1/AP modifier a level 1 consume with ~100AP (Athene's plus runes/masteries) will heal you for ~225. With lvl 1 consume cooldown and some CDR you'll have 225 hp every ~13 seconds, which is more than 70 hp/5. Which is more than 1.5 as much as a warmogs.
-edit- this is just some basic calculation. It assumes a rank 1 consume when you get your athene's (very unlikely). The HP regen will be even more massive with higher ranks of consume. I just did these numbers to put it all in perspective as to how much Nunu gets out of his consume in actual gold value of stats.

i dont buy hog at all anymore, its just such a shit item, even more after the nerf. if i want randuins i get wardens first. oh and if the guy who said athenes wasnt good on nunu didnt get it yet: nunu is probably the best champ to get athenes on.

When people buy HoG it's usually paired with a philo so early into the game you stifle any other purchases. The reason this just doesn't work for Nunu is you want utility from your items as soon as possible e.g. CDR, Mp5, AP rather than put that off for later. Nunu's biggest strength in lane is to not die, this is pretty important early game and should be amplified such that other top laners don't snowball out of control. Buying a HoG just delays the whole concept, you only get HP from it and doubtfully won't finish Randuins.
Putting it like this, optimally for top laners when is the correct time to go for gp5? When do they go for Dorans? Going for gp5 makes you play a lot more passive than alternatives which can be crucial early game.

MMe being knocked to loser's means that Legion has secured their spot in Regionals. Legion has 215 points after their top 8 finish and need to be passed by two teams to lose their seed. Orbit and MMe both need at least third to pass Legion, and CLG Black has to win the tournament. Because all three of those teams are now in the losers bracket, only one can make top 3, meaning Legion cannot be knocked to 9th place.
Dynamic has also secured their spot, meaning only one spot remains up for grabs between Orbit, MMe, and CLG.Black.
