[TLCH] Mission 12: Unsealing the Past

Please use this thread to discuss the twelfth level of the LotV campaign, "Unsealing the Past". This is the first Endion mission. Clearly mark spoilers using the spoiler tag. Plot events that occurred in the prologue or Missions 1-11 do not need to be spoilered. Please spoiler plot events from Missions 14-16 which can be played before this mission.

Feel free to use this thread to ask any simple questions you might have about the mission, or for tips/help/advice on completing the mission

this is getting way too easy again . now that i can mass colossus its down to a-move again, also, missions are getting tedious, need more missions without bases imho

Has anyone completed the mastery achievement for this? Recommendations? I can't get the last lair in time =[

From what I remember, I did it using solar lances and dark templars mostly. I remember having a few collosi/stalkers/zealots following the megalith while I microed some DTs to clear the lairs. When you leave your base on the right path and then go up, you can destroy some rocks to have early access to the last three lairs. Kill the overseers & spore crawlers with solar flares and nuke the hives with DTs. I used ~4-8 Nerazim DTs with Shadow Fury to do this and to help killing the waves coming out of the nydus worms. There were still some enemy units reaching my base, but it was a manageable amount.

Sometime in the middle of the mission, I made 2-3 DTs to clear out both hives at the bottom left corner of the map. Once these 5 hives were down, I brought all my units back together and followed the megalith to the fourth station and destroyed the last remaining hive there.

Thank you very much Aki. I don't use DT's enough in campaign out of habit, but they're super good. I'll try it out now

So that's how you do it....

I was trying to brute force it with 5 collossi and then sentry/dragoon and I simply couldn't manage to clear out everything in time(short ~10s with as good play as I could do).

Campaign DT's are absolutely nuts. Omnislash on 15s CD that one shots all zerglings, get a small group of DT's together, and they can pretty much obliterate an army simply by going in with omni on CD.

Look there is a huge base / starship that can blow up planets but its shield generators are on the forest world below and we have to go down there to disable them

Did that ring a bell for anyone??

idk man... there's spores and overseers everywhere. solar lance cooldown isnt fast enough to kill them all. I tried it in combination with purifier beam too. I would love to see a replay... unfortunately nothing on youtube or anything.

If you're good with micro, a Tal'darim Mothership and Solar Lance can SOLO the top four hatches/hives/lairs and even stop to burn the all of the rocks on the path to the fourth uplink for the Megalith. It can one-shot almost any ground unit that isn't an Ultralisk, and two/three-shot most buildings. Overseers die in one hit, too, meaning it can support DTs well here. It can Blink, use a version of Vortex which allows you to target the units within, and it can use a Solar Lance-like attack which burns almost anything in the way to ash. And it can fire these abilities off up to four times in a couple of seconds if it's at max energy. It's still not worth picking over Carriers in most campaign missions, but it's AMAZING when you don't have time to mass Carriers instead. I got the achievement with Avenger spam, Time Stop, Shield Overcharge, and Solar Lance along with the Mothership. Just snipe out any active AA near the hive clusters and abuse the Mothership's abilities. A single DT can kill the southern hatches since they have NO detection. A word of warning, though: Be sure to keep at least a couple of DTs and some anti-air around your base in case there's an attack. When the Mothership reaches the last hive cluster, it won't really be necessary to protect the base any longer. Just snipe the targets before your base is completely destroyed and you're good. And don't kill too many Ultralisks: Nothing delays the Megalith like having to deal with one. It'll survive...barely. A bit tricky, but real fun to pull off and I'm not all that good at this. I bet someone else could do even better.

For the mastery achivement, there is a really easy way. You can step back from enemy units and buildings and Megalith tries to kill them before advancing forward. Especially once you reach the caves with destructible rocks to seal, just seal the caves and kill units but do not touch spawning pool and hatchery there. Megalith will try to destroy these buildings before going forward. You will have tons of time to max your units. Once the Northern hatcheries are down, return back to Megalith and take out the one it is trying to destroy.

Yea that was what did it for me. I couldn't kill them fast enough until I left the buildings standing and then, it was easy as the megalith stood there slowly killing them and I cleared everything with plenty of time.
