Asking a matchmaker to make every game fair without assigning individuals a team "ability level" and a solo "ability level" is just an impossible task, and why Riot is trying to do it I have no idea (at least it seems they're trying to do it). If a player plays 50% of their games as a trio, 25% as a duo, and 25% as a solo, if they queue up as a solo the system shouldn't predict their performance in a game based upon how they do in duos and trios-that's just silly and leads to "equally matched" games being unfair in reality.
Every time a player queues up solo after queuing up with friends for a week, a game probably won't be fair. That's the heart of the problem with the dynamic queue.
It's possible they are simply doing a solo and team MMR and simply not separating out these team and solo ratings for people to view, but that seems unlikely. Their ideology would mesh with doing that and just lying to players when it comes to presenting their ability level, I suppose.
|
Not to mention, how do you calculate how well a player synergizes with another player? I might win 70% of my games with friend A. But then lose 70% of my games with friend B. Me and both friends otherwise have the same MMR but conflicting playstyles. How is that taken into account?
And again, it isn't all about just creating fair matchmaking. Obviously a coinflip is a fair game. Is that a satisfying game? Not really. Well, personally anyway. I'm sure there are millions out there paying money to flip coins at this instant.
Now obviously ranked with grouped players isn't quite a coin flip, but it is much more clown fiesta than solo queue. Grouped players have obvious advantages in terms of map play and teamfighting... only way for the game to be "fair" is for the solo players to just be better. This makes the game much less consistent.
But how do you rate a player when he just finished playing 15 games solo, and now he is playing in a group? What about when he just finished playing in a group and now is solo? There is zero way for the matchmaking system to have accurate numbers and for the ladder to have a true ranking of how you play unless you only play with the same people or if you only play with yourself.

I just learned to stop caring because regardless of what I want I'll be forced to go along with what Riot wants anyway.

has anyone here tried the Lucian fotm build on MF?
seems like it theoretically could be good on any Essence Reaver adc, I mean not as good as Lucian, but when Lucian gets nerfed is it an option?

lucian is unique because his passive lets him apply two hits very quickly at a given time. I don't know of another adc that can so rapidly apply the stacks of BC. Also most other adc have items that suit them well
best options are ashe/sivir but that can auto reset only any level close to lucian. Ashe gets no crit from this build and sivir may have mana issues.

the fotm mf build is a bit different
ghostblade -> duskblade -> cleaver
its just a pen/ad build
it felt pretty good. the thing i underrated the most about it was the movement speed. with MF's passive/W and ghostblade active+duskblade MS+cleaver passive, her kiting and chasing is insane.

Qtpie just did this build on stream although he went ghostblade -> Cleaver -> Duskblade. Don't know if he's just being bad because his team is winning it without him. Does seem like a lot of damage and MS pretty sick.

yea I've seen MFs go dusk blade recently, I just figured they were boosted/trolling, maybe I'll try it out.
reminds me of the Romanium full pen renekton build he was using before the Cleaver buff. he'd go 9x arp red 2xarp quint 1xaspd quint
Ghost blade > Tiamat > Duskblade
gave you a nasty -60 armor with Precision when you hit your core. I'm guessing this MF build goes Fervor though

No Lucian is not unique. He just has a lot of base/scaling damage on his abilities. It could also be good on sivir, Quinn, urgot, and jhin in addition to the aforementioned and obvious MF. Champions who have high ability damage and like a lot of CDR to keep spamming abilities.

dont forget fervor is super strong now and he can easily build stacks thx to the passive

A lot of people feel this way. I'm glad others can enjoy the game as it is though. Yeah, this is called "when league of legends was total ass". First blood -> dragon -> every lane is now up in gold -> supports buy nothing but wards -> team that's behind is choked out for the rest of the game. That was an absolutely horrible meta and the fact that you're defending it is kind of proof that people have no fucking clue what's good for this game. Add in different pricing model and we could have a genre revival. I don't agree. I think it did well to come out before the MOBA-surgence. It came out at a time where there was no other competitive games, and thus it faced almost no competition. The decline from late 2011, however, showed that it couldn't match up against its competition. Gamers simply found CS, LOL and DOTA to be more fun. Many people have theories as to why Starcraft is daed gaem but I think it's pretty simple, and your post implies it too: it's designed as a game that can't be played with friends. That just doesn't really cut it any more. Every single of the "big games" is a multiplayer experience with friends. The number of ranked players according to op.gg increased 20% this season after Riot introduced dynamic queue. I have no fucking clue what's good for the game? I have a preference for how the game used to be, that doesn't make me clueless. I respect that you may enjoy the game more now, as I said, but for me and a lot of other veteran players, this game has gone to shit and we'd rather just be playing something else. Watching the round table dynamic queue discussion, and reading Riot's new dynamic queue changes, only solidifies my opinion that the new people at Riot has no fucking idea what made so many people enjoy League in the first place. People can bitch about solo queue all they want (my team holds me back from getting challenger!!!), it's what a handful of people spent their time playing, and it's also where many talented players and streamers were discovered. And there's no more arranged 5's ranked? How will up and coming teams practice 5v5s outside of scrims?
just becaues you were part of the tl guys who played 5's regularly doesn't mean it was the norm almost nobody played ranked 5's, the stats backed it up. almost everyone plays solo q if they play ranked at all. that's not "a handful"
solo q is where ALL the talented players and streamers were discovered. Nobody was plat and then played 5's and got anywhere I think diamonprox is the only guy in a good team when he was low ranked and he got to the top 50 or something with an insane winrate so he probably had another acc or something

There's so much wrong with this analogy. First you're comparing a mechanical device to an audio coding format. If you wanted to make an apt comparison you'd be comparing an 8 track player/tape to a CD player/CD or analog to mp3. You're also making a false equivalence by implying that dynamic queue is somehow innately superior to solo queue, when it is a game design decision where it essentially comes down to personal taste than anything objective.

He never claimed ranked 5s were the norm, and it is irrelevant that a small percentage of people played them if you strictly care about finding teams that are good (teams, not individuals). The pro and semi-pro scene are a tiny proportion of the population, I guess we should just cancel LCS too?

the majority of ranked 5's team which itself was a minority of people were just playing with their friends anyway and it was super hard to find games.
i suggest keep dyanmic q and keep LCS for competitive play instead of having solo q which is active and ranked 5's which only the top guys play if they want to scrim and some groups of friends, if you have 2 ppl you duo, 5 you ranked 5's but 3 or 4 and you're fucked doesn't make sense
