Add Spartan to this. Ain't no traditional bot lane living through like Panth / J4, Panth / Leona, Leona / J4, J4 / Xin.

I can get behind Poppy. Dumbledoge made that shit good against some pretty good teams.
Xin prolly feels real bad if they pick Janna though, I also imagine you probably right fucked if you get ganked.

Vi, Naut, Renek, Voli and Trundle (is he still legit?) aren't bad. J4 + Darius used to be superfun
if you can load decent amounts of cc/ gap close its an easy win. supports who arent janna/thresh have a very hard time keeping you from all inning, and they run oom or you make them burn the CD's. plus double targon is op.

Another reason why Sion support is good. Only champ that can hard engage on Janna / Thresh except perhaps Morgana. Not much Janna can do when Sion RQ's. You can legit double knock-up and burst Janna before she can even Ult.
Most will try to Tornado you in your R then be real sad.

The problem with wonky stuff like Nasus support is there's a million better supports, if you want something unconventional play stuff like Velkoz, Veigar. whatever that's actually useful. Why is this even being discussed? What's the next subject, mid Braum because why not?
Double bruiser kill lanes are hilarious if they pop off.
|
the real reason is people don't like playing the bitch role so they try to get some fun out of it playing "quirky" stuff the decent supports tend to actually be a lot more fun
you rarely see people talk about playing unconventional mids like bard mid or something
|
I only ever play unconventional supports with friends. If I put support in ranked I play real supports.
Another fun bot lane is the snare lane. Morgana with Lux and you both take ignite. Land a snare and you get a kill.
Note "fun"

Keep in mind I said earlier that Nasus could be strong only against heavy attack speed / aa reliant champs (Kalista/Vayne). i mean regular nasus isn't considered a teamfight beast and he does a shit ton of damage lol why would a nasus doing no damage be considered a good supports supports really aren't that much weaker than other champs they just dont output the same damage
True, I also didn't read the info on his skill very well, woops. But still, wither is a strong spell.

A good Janna would just poke you out of lane so fast and Zone you, then have a better late game too. Or you max E and Wither is nothing to write home about
Wither is real good, don't get me wrong. But Nasus pretty much has to hope the other lane just hard derps into him. Nasus support is pretty much 100% wither. And you have to remember that you take a ton of poke getting in range, then half of Wither duration is pretty much just your ADC getting on them.
Wither used to be worth playing Support Nasus for because the AS slow was the same as the Slow, and you could have 100% Wither uptime. now neither of those things are true, and Exhaust is just as good, so you might as well pick an otherwise useful support. Not to mention, I think a good ADC just buys a QSS and now you aren't a champ in the game . Janna pokes you? --> You walk up to the adc, wither his ass and all in. They only have 1 damage threat that's being completely nullified by your W.
I never said Nasus was good. It's extremely gimmicky, but I wouldn't count it out against certain champs/comps.
Why not put the ADC midlane with an assassin/cc tank bot and a bruiser/tank top? Caitlyn mid is superoppressive for example.

Assassins generally speaking want to be the highest level in the game if possible.

I mean...
Maybe you nullified their damage threat, but Nasus won't get on Janna or even a withered ADC, so Janna just WQ's the ADC and then like trade over.
Also, you want Assassins to have a level advantage. They gain more from solo experience than an ADC.
|
Wither lasts long enough that your AD will lose that trade. Again, the problem of Nasus isn't his laning phase. Its that once you're out of the laning phase you can no longer wither the AD because you have to walk through their entire team to do so.
|
I don't think his laning phase is bad.
I just don't think its good enough to justify picking him anymore, if that wasn't clear.
|
Nasus doesn't have to do damage thouh. To win (a trade) all you have to do is output more damage than they can. I'm pretty sure that even when cced your adc will be able to do more damage to their adc then their bot can get onto your adc. I've had success with picking it against Kalista and I'm convinced it's a good pick in the right setting. You max W/E, build FoTM, FH, ... and just single her out every single fight. Her damage is completely nullified and everyone else can focus on the other threats.
The level advantage doesn't really matter because lanes are kind of isolated at early, which means you can still all in when the opportunity arises and you get levels/gold this way (btw, twice the possibilities since you're fighting 2 squishies) And Caitlyn can completely shut her opponent down if she gets to do what she wants (why are Varus/Corki/Ezreal played mid?). Granted these are different roles, but Caitlyn has some properties they share, with longer range and zone control. Also, higher level headshots hurt.

If you'd rather have a level 11 Caitlyn and a level 8 Zed instead of the other way around, I don't really know what to tell you other than you are just plain wrong.
Zeds (Or any assassin, really) whole kit scales with levels. probably 70% of their damage is straight up from levels till late game. ADC's scale with gold with items. No ADC's have good base damage. Otherwise they would be good supports.... none of them are good supports.
People didn't swap ADC's from mid for AP's and Assassins for no reason. Teams with Assassins mid rolled over teams with ADC's mid. Namely, the ADC's got friggen wrecked by the assassins, then they just went bot and rolled over the bot lane because they had a huge level advantage there. You might win till level 6, but at 6 they will just kill you... even if they are 30 cs behind.
You put your Ashe mid, I'll kill it 5 times and snowball the game with my Zed / Fizz / LB / Kat / Talon / etc.
People used to play ADC's mid exclusively. Ashe / Trist / TF / Sivir / Corki back in the day were all mid laners. You played mages bottom. And then SK wrecked everyone by playing assassins mid and ADC's bot.
There are oldskool vods somewhere of Saintvicious playing Karthus in a duo lane for CLG. LOL.
|
Karthus is a special case though, he's got high base damage but scales really well with farm too.
|
I was talking like pre-season1 kind of thing.
I think since like... Season1 mages bot lane have been no beuno.
|
Yes, I was talking in the context of "exp vs farm first."

LOL. no you didn't. mid was given to whoever had impactful ults first like karthus and ashe. then roamers like annie & kass, then strong laners like panth & old kat, then stuff like trist that could siege fast. this was wcg 2010 times
your assassins in s1 were pretty much limited to kass
by s1 it was entirely mages mid with the main exception being ez bot lane was a cheesy thing like blitz ali or low xp priority champs for a really long time until people figured out it's best to have ADC bot duo with support
|
Assassins / mages. Not assassins in general, but champs that wanted the XP more. You;re right though, it wasn't uncommon to see like Annie go mid then too.
There weren't really many assassins in the mid lane back then.
I know Regi used to play a LOT of AP Shaco mid. Shaco and Kass were the only real assassins played mid. Akali and Kat were considered too shit to be played mid for the first little while. I don't think there were any other true assassins in the game at the time unless my memory sucks.
I remember watyching a pro game with Epik Gamer where Liftlift was playing in a Poppy / Blitz bot lane. LOL.

NA meta was classically double bruiser bot; dlift played garen bot too stemmed from roam meta where tanks were left to 1v2
