I don't know about them being OP (tip: they aren't), but Anivia and Ziggs support are fun too. Those wall and satchel charge plays.

You don't pick Veigar support for damage, you pick him for the cage. At least I do.

Veigar is pretty legit these days because you can now stack the Q with harass instead of last hitting.

If you want damage though. Just use zyra and have magic pen reds and quints. You will lead the team often!

Or the super cheesy all magic pen page for that fat 20 pen.

I've picked Nasus or Nunu as supports just to hardcounter Kalista when I just wanted to shut her down. Whither max just completely nullifies adcs soooooooooo much. It's like a much stronger exhaust basically. The snowball isn't as good, but the bloodboil kind of makes up for it. I do prefer Nasus over Nunu as a support to shut down attack speed/"basic attack heavy" adcs (Vayne and Kalista are the ones that are most prominent imo, maybe Jinx too)

When they buffed Nasus' stacking on jungler monsters and people realised he's actually somewhat legit in the jungle (cleared super fast with E max, so you get some CDR run and you'd walk up to a camp, E, Q a small monster, E would kill the others and then you'd Q the big ones and that'd give you on average 2/3rd of the total stacks of the camp for a lightning-fast clear).
I don't remember what else they buffed (I think that's when they extended Wither and aa range during his ult?) but he was being used support which I found pretty interesting, since "true" utility supports (eg. something other than heals or hard cc) are quite rare, but then Riot didn't like it so they butchered it on purpose.

Somebody didn't ban him in URF after inviting me to their party... I had a lot of fun mid, with all that stun spam on my ass every other second.

(Also after spectating a few games I can see why Viktor's winrate isn't as low as I thought he'd be: even with the full second delay on E's explosion, there are still people running away from it in a straight-line or standing still for one more of these 60 AD-autos instead of dodging the 300+ damage explosion. Geez.)

The faster laser initial shot and AoE rylais slow makes it actually a lot easier to double laser now I think.

You're talking about 5k gold in (initial dring+boots+augment+rylai), I've seen people do it waaaaay before he gets rylai. That one even started abyssal iirc and got 3+ kills because of that over laning+roams.

Just had to lane against Swain and I'm pretty pissed.
He's strong as fuck now, but he mostly seems braindead against melee champions. With the animation (and projectile, it seems like?) removed on E and how Q works it's basically press EQ whenever in range, last hit so you don't push the wave too fast if people get zoned, never go oom thanks to the changes to mana regen, even more so once you get catalyst. Worst case burn WQ to help clear the wave if you're pushed in.

He's not as bursty as before since his ratios were reduced but between that and how his ult works now, and Cowl being smashed from "the sustain item against constant damage" to "that SV component", he's going to be a pain in the ass to lane against that should do decently no matter what later on.
What makes me pissed isn't his current state, but that I'm afraid of how Riot will handle it. If anything, Ryze has shown that they're aren't too reliable on this kind of design, and Swain used to be one of my favourite champions, so if he gets mauled without finesse...

I'm not that concerned yet the build people are going is so low damage I feel like counterplay can be developed over time. As far as the lane part, like Swain has always made melees feel like garbage, nothing has changed here, the change to his max order does accentuate his old power curve to make him even stronger (very) early and slightly weaker late.

Maybe I destroy my own argument by saying this but I really don't think the super tank visage rush swain build we are seeing a lot is that high impact despite being hard to kill. Perhaps down the line when people experiment more with Protobelt and like 1 or 2 damage items we'll see how strong he truly can be.

Laned against a Swain as Fiora, despite an early kill from a gank I couldn't split against him all game because he built full tank, so I did 0 dmg to him, even getting a full ult on him meant he would be at half health and outheal me while I got slowed. It was pretty insane, I don't think that's what Swain is supposed to do, he's an AoE dmg mage not a brick wall tank. He did the second highest dmg in the game, and he wasn't participating in team fights, he just split pushed and I couldn't stop him because he never ran out of mana = never stops healing. His kill potential was pretty low, true, but it was also impossible to kill him without team support. I gave up trying to fight him when he blocked a Vital by sitting at a wall and out sustained my damage.

Just played with a Lucian who got uber-fed, and bought a second Cull after selling #1. Now, obviously this is hilariously BM and dumb, but does it work?

Swain's issue is that despite his theorically high damage, you needed to keep people in Q or reliably as a target of your ult (it took the 3 closest targets without priority iirc, so in a cluster you won't hit the long range dude), if you did it was a ton of damage, if you didn't you generally felt miserable until E came back off cd or you could make a play with a nice W root.

With the current Swain it's probably more streamlined because Q doesn't break as easily and you decide where to put Beatrice so you've got more leeway with the range too, but on the other hand you can't really focus someone unless the fight is really split so that you can control what Q will focus. Overall that probably reduces his single-target damage later on.

In lane Q's worse to face because auto-attacks during E are stronger, and even if you get out of Q's range if Swain places it correctly and kills the minions in range you're going to take damage again as soon as you enter it (or if he waits for you to come back to kill the minion currently focused).
That plus not being punished nearly as hard for wasting spells because of more mana regen on both the passive and itemisation makes him more oppressive and lower floor in lane.

I mean it sounds more like you played directly into his strengths than him being op (with that build )

I played a melee into swain and played a 1v1 lane phase vs him from start to finish would be a losing recipe into swain from the moment he was added to the game.

Swain's strength is his anti-melee and being really tanky.

The downside is that he really has trouble singling out a target in fights. Sure his AoE damage is very impressive in teamfights, but he isn't great at singling out a fed carry unless he is also really fed.

Swain has always been very strong against melee's because of how punishing his E-enhanced autos and slows make it so you outtrade most melee's. He is squishy early on before he gets his items though.

I still feel like swain's lategame is weak because ADC's with a maw and maybe merc. don't take damage from him, can kite the crap out of him, and shred him. He really suffers from the lack of range.
