Yeah. Overhyped. As a full package is he the best top laner in Korea? Yeah, kind of silly to debate that. But I don't think he's miles ahead of Ssumday and Smeb as people think and benefited a lot from Faker being Faker.

in terms of just his laning/individual play I agree with you, but then he's also the shotcaller and given how dominant SKT was in a macro sense having a top 3 toplaner in the world and a top 3 shotcaller in the world is ridiculously valuable.

Yup. Calling somebody overhyped doesn't mean they're bad.

I guess it depends on how hard you think people are hyping him, but my perception of others' perceptions is that he's the best, maybe 2nd best shotcaller and top 3 in terms of being a top laner, which is about where I'd put him

I've seen so many people say Faker barely did anything at Worlds and it was all Marin.

They're not really wrong though lol. Faker didn't really need to do much. It's wrong if they are using that to imply Faker is bad/played bad but literally all Faker needed to do was not feed. Besides some Ryze performances where he went off pretty much nearly all games were decided by toplane and/or team rotations.
Not Faker's fault the meta was that way but that's just how it was.

I mean consistently winning lane against the best in the world allowing SKT to make aggressive proactive rotations isn't really barely doing anything, it's just that by our expectations for Faker it seems comparatively average. Like it's really easy to just gloss over what happened by saying "and then the team rotated to win" but most of those rotations were only possible because multiple lanes were winning

Other than pawn, faker's competition at worlds was kuro, peke, westdoor, BKT mid (007?), and ryu.
those mids aren't even top 10 mid in the world for the year.

but yes I don't think it's fair to say 'lol faker did nothing he got carried' but you also got to realize that if we're giving credit to faker there even more credit goes to marin.
obviously SKT's dominating performance was a team performance so no one got carried but undervaluing marin's performance and calling him overhyped and saying he benefited from faker being faker (when the inverse was more true this season) is a bit silly imo.

I'm just saying, the people who think that it was literally all marin are stupid, but turning around and saying all Faker did was not feed is also an overreaction

Well obviously the rest of SKT needs to be good and know what to do if they want to dominate as hard as they did. SKT's decision making was so fluid and consistent and that requires both good leadership and good players who know what to do. I highly doubt whatever team Marin joins is gonna be even close to the level of SKT was. But C9 also showed us that it can all fall apart if you lose a core leader and the same could happen here. Obviously Marin didn't have completely control over every decision SKT made but this is a team that looks at only first place. You can't just lose a top tier player in all aspects and expect everything to be the same.

marin shotcalling is misunderstood to mean he makes all decisions. this is just not true lol. they have marin call his aggressive and highly successful tp plays plus he is older. skt seems to seek a total team mindmeld situation and while that may mean a lengthy adjustment period they should be alright in the end.

tom was probably not a great loss. he is kind of streaky and only good as a teamfighter anyway.

marin's age was one of those hidden timebombs on the team. best wishes to him and his money pile. skt should be able to find a former IM guy to play top anyway

marin did have a period of wrist flareup. u see it with faker too. ive always ragged on skt's training schedule for it but maybe they just play too much on their own. faker probably makes more inputs in IWBTG as he does in lol. nobody is forcing him to do that but they should be looking at it as a problem. they need a health aspect to their coaching

anyway i am rather interested in the jungler backup. if they are willing to spend smeb is the obvious replacement but it is less certain for jg.
