Nowadays Brand is just useless. If I had to guess I'd say Grail/Rylais/Liandries is probably the best standard build right now, similar mindset. Can probably change stuff as needed. The slow and HP is needed cause it's a lot of extended teamfights right now and you need to kite around a bit. CDR/mana item first (Grail or Morello). If you're snowballing, get a NLR item after. Rylai's is necessary because late game when your damage falls off you can still slow people for a massive amount of time with your passive. Late game you peel. Burst people mid game. I like getting max CDR with him too, either through CDR boots or CDR blues. With Max CDR, Q cooldown is just under the Blaze duration.
On April 07 2015 00:24 Ketara wrote: Brand is one of those champs whose numbers are just lower than modern champions.
Like, if you compare him to Syndra who is a modern sort of mid range AP lane bully mage.
Brand maxes W, which goes up to 255+60%AP+8%HP for 90 mana on a 10s cooldown.
Syndra maxes Q, which goes up to 264.5+69%AP for 80 mana on a 4s cooldown.
And you say "gosh Ketara, those numbers look pretty much the same, what are you talking about" and they are pretty much the same when you look at them in terms of one spellcast.
But Syndras damage is more mana efficient than Brands (3.3+0.86%AP damage per mana vs. 2.8+0.66%AP+0.08%HP damage per mana)
And Syndras sustained damage is also crazy way higher than Brands (66+17.25%AP DPS vs. 25+6%AP+0.8%HP DPS) so even if Brand can be similar in early laning damage output, he falls off later in the game.
Then Syndras utility is better as well. Brand gets a 2s single target stun that requires he hit two skillshots, while Syndra gets a longer range 1.5s AOE stun and a 45% AOE slow.
Finally, Syndras ult does more single target damage than Brands even in a best case scenario, which we all know you never get on Brand ult because it's unreliable as all fuck.
And all this time I am comparing Brand to a champion people don't even play anymore because they think she isn't good enough either. Brand just one of those older champions who was killed by power creep.
It's kind of like comparing Lux vs. Xerath. Not that I'm bitter or anything.
Not that I'm disagreeing at all, but you factored in Syndra's extra damage to a champ. W does a shit tonne more damage to an ablaze target (~320 base damage iirc). I know you were counting single spell casts, but it is a feature of the spell nonetheless. I also think the ult comparison is slightly unfair, as a 7 sphere Syndra ult is one of the highest single target damage spells in the game. Also Syndra got slapped with a massive nerf. Losing 20 damage on your main spell early really sucks.
I've said this before, but the problem with Brand is that he is so godly in his perfect world scenario, and more and more champs are becoming better equipped at stopping his perfect world scenario from happening. I've never dominated teamfights harder than I have with Brand, but also never felt as useless. Also his E sucks so hard. Revert the range nerf rito pls. The game isn't the same anymore.

I never understood why Brand E is targeted. Prolly should be a skillshot (with bigger range), or, should be made to do almost 0 damage to not-burning targets, but have its range greatly increased.

If they made it a skillshot, he'd need significant buffs/changes as compensation. As it stands, E is the only surefire way to get someone ablaze and make things happen.
But it sucks. Short range, low damage, low ratio, high mana cost. The only thing it has going for it is that the cooldown is acceptable at max rank with some CDR.

The options are the Ahri-style skillshots where you e>q or try and make it like the inverse of anivia q>r.

He already does it before level 2-3, I prefer to start with E because it doesn't push the wave as much and lets you zone people once they get hit twice and understand you're going to try and punish every cs you can with it. Of course in most cases it just means Zed loses 200 HP before he decides he'll just farm out of your range with Q or his shadow, and jump onto you whenever you step in range to outtrade you.
If E was a skillshot, it'd become massively harder to hit (single-target ground-targeted AoE? Imagine how narrow it'd have to be to prevent from hitting two targets, and even then how do you decide which one is prioritised?), would gimp Brand even more vs anything with mobility (even Ahri just doesn't give a fuck about him anymore because she can Q out of his W effortlessly, I'd rather she get the MS bonus once the ball reaches its apex so she can't cast it reactively and has to actually set up her mobility), and wouldn't necessarily receive compensation for this anyway because Riot tends to only account for the skillshot nature of the abilities, not the mobility against which they're pitted.

So, I've gone from getting no bot spam friend invites for years to getting them nonstop everyday the last few patches. Its getting annoying.
Also, my opinion on chroma packs . . . I definately do not agree with them. The idea of buying recolors of different skins is silly and greedy.
If they were going to do recolors of different skins then why not do this. They are coming out with the Mastery system right? Getting to max level in the Mastery of a specific champion that you main could unlock not only that little emoticon that you can do in the game but also unlock a recolor of a skin of your choosing or its random. In doing so it gives people another reason to keep playing because there are people who are addicted to this kind of thing. Like how people are addicted to unlocking achievements for different games.
Of course Riot could've gone that route but they choose the greed route. Before anyone says anything like "they have to make money," they are making plenty of money just off people buying RP. Not to mention tickets to watch for lcs.
|
Idk, they have the option to release the chroma skins and make money off of it, and people will pay, so why not do that?
|
I know people will pay for recolors of skins and thats the sad part. Buying recolors of skins that take little to no effort is just silly to me.
|
I don't see how it's much different from buying a skin in the first place.

Especially with the existence of some old skins that are actually just recolors. Looking at you blue shen.

Anyway, regardless of the examples - proper or not, Riot is a profit organization, probably they have some marketing research conducted that recoloring will bring profit and naturally they do it. So many other stuff are for free, let em have some payed.

I mean these recolors are basically about $1.30 each. If you can't afford $1.30 for a recolor, maybe consider just not buying it. And also seriously reconsider the life choices that have led you to this point, where you are declaring the developers of a free-to-play video game "greedy" for giving you the option to pay $1.30 to change the appearance of your virtual in-game avatar.
The day Riot charges money for any kind of in-game advantage is where I draw the line. Until that point, I don't care if they sell prestige $1000 skins. If you don't want it, don't buy it. Bitching that they should be giving you free stuff just makes you look pathetic.

Well I will say, nothing in League costs less than 5 dollars in the US. period. even if it uses 40 RP, it still costs 5 dollars to buy the RP to get that 40 RP thing. converting RP to real dollars doesn't matter below that limit. yes you can get multiple things for that 5 dollar RP, but 5 dollars is the minimum you can spend. If you could purchase things directly, rather than a secondary currency. then yeah. but you will always spend more money if you have to convert your real money in a one way conversion. especially since depending on what you want to buy and what you have RP is worth variable amounts of money to you. if you are trying to buy a 100 RP thingy, and you have 99 RP, you spend 5 dollars for 1 RP to get that thingy. whereas if something is 650 RP and you have 0 RP, that same 5 dollars buys you 650 RP toward a product.

If you don't like the idea of recolour, don't buy it. No one is forcing you to pay riot.
|
The examples shown look cool. Regardless of how much hate riot gets they interact with the community on levels I never saw playing online games for 20 years. Skins are fun and support a company that does an okay job. It's about five dollars here to buy three chromas which isn't a bad a deal.
That said, I refuse to spend 25 dollars on legendary skins so each person draws their lines differently as far as purchasing cosmetics. If you don't like the idea don't use it. I personally wouldn't call it greedy.
|
I like it, definitely getting a couple packs for my mains.
|
As somebody who has never purchased a skin, doesn't give a shit about these recolors and plans on never buying one, I still think it's really cool and wonder why Riot didn't do this two years ago.

Chroma packs are awesome idea for people that are willing to spend RPs, I've already bought a shitload of it in the last 2 years of playing so I think I'll just stop here ^_^
