This is somewhat related to LoL, and people are not trying to force the conversation.
The current offtopic thread is actually doing fairly nicely.

The cost difference between some colleges is staggering.

Are people still talking about fish puns? My stamp on TLGD is complete.

That said, I have not had any time recently to draft out a detailed OP for the off topic thread because of LCS Super Weeks but the thread that we have up right now is entirely fulfilling its purpose. I'm not going to lay down the law with you guys about how GD is supposed to be used but recent topics have been Req and how to manage League time in college. In Off Topic thread, it's been about anime for three pages and pokemon before that.
This is pretty much what I expected with the thread separation.

The cost difference between some colleges is staggering. For my first job, offers ranged around 30-31k €/year. Had I been to a less well-known engineering school than I did, employers would have been a bit less interested in my CV and offers would have been around down to 27-28k instead. I remember a teacher insisting about how it's easier to get employed at a higher salary than to start lower and compensate over time with higher raises, shortly before we graduated. From what I've seen I've taken her true to her word. So if you're speaking "finding a job/good salary", yeah, it changes stuff.
Probably depends a bit of the length and field of your studies, of course.

The cost difference between some colleges is staggering. TL;DR: Unfortunately, yes. School names do matter, especially so for certain majors. In California, we have the UC system, which is pretty much the best public universities you can attend. But even within the UCs, if you're an electrical engineering major, for example. There's a huge difference if you graduate EE from UC Berkeley compared to one of the other UCs.
PM me if this is something you want to talk more about.

TIL there's already an off topic thread. Thank you!

Name matters, but yes college is ridiculously overpriced. It's basically monopoly pricing.

I know people think this is offtopic, but there's a serious problem going on with how college pricing works. This heavily includes money spent on course textbooks you will not likely use past the course itself. Seriously messed up.
For you college-going folk, please look into buying used books online or something similar before you pay full price for any textbook needed. Also international edition books are almost always the same thing as the normal version, but check their description to confirm.

Similarly, you can PM me for my thoughts, though Neo is pretty much right on the money, and it varies from major to major. I also disagree on the pricing of (US) colleges (but agree on textbooks).
Now back on-topic: Damn, I think I'm going to have to lrn2play Hec when that Arcade skin gets released. Pity my jungle sucks. Too fab.

I don't understand Ezreal's laning mentality at all, I have no feel for this champion.

Chawy from Singapore Sentinels is making some great plays in the SEA regional qualifiers, yikes. Good to see him & Harleluyah still around.

If you go tears first, you just stack tears while being pussy in lane until you have Muramana+IBG.

For me, the difference is at least significant in that the big name colleges will pay for more of my expenses. I'm dirt poor and always have been... I mean, really poor, it's a wonder I even have internet access and nutritious food and all this. When you're in that poverty range private colleges like stanford or harvard will cover significantly more of your expenses than, say, berkeley, which for me is a fallback. Even if stanford gave me literally zero additional post-college value based on the name and educational quality, it would be a far far better deal than any UC.

I made a thread for it as well considering it's one of the world championship spots: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=425882

As for whether or not you will actually use the textbooks after the course or not, that really depends on whether it is a really core class for you major or if it is more of a general education class. For example a Calculus or Psychology text you can probably write off as useless later on, but I use a number of textbooks at least once a week from my eng Degree: A Metalurgy one from a material eng course I took, a stress analasis one (Yaya random cheater formulas and stress concentrations ftw), and my drafting manual for sure.
Occassionally I use three or four other textbooks as well as quick references, but considerably less frequently. (Pipefitter's handbook, Welders Handbook, Computer Numerical Control handbook, as well as my Hydraulics and Pneumatics text, just off the top of my head).

Yep, that's the one. SGS keep 4v5ing, but some great, er, marksmen play from Chawy with crazy Flash angles to keep up DPS and wrongfooting Mineski.
Edit: Ah, hadn't seen the tourney thread when I checked yesterday, sorry, and with the EU LCS using the previous weeks' one, didn't hold out much hope of an SEA tournament getting attention =p

I will admit that there are uses for certain textbooks depending on your line of work. Regardless, there is still an advantage of using used books for the majority of your courses. You can save so much money by doing this, and there's almost zero reason for universities to use a new edition of a book essentially every year aside from money(since corrections/changes made are minor)
