Sometimes, it can be a lot more helpful than it sounds.

I think it's a good match-up for me if I don't get cheesed level 1 like that, but it's kind of similar to like the vs Darius match-up where even with a lead you can mess up and die really easily. What's the thought behind your build, seemed a bit silly. Cheesed at level 1? I just ignited you for the kill...
And the thought behind my build is that if it isn't a 4v5 because our mid DC'd I would have been split pushing with tanky aatrox. We almost won the 4v5 but if we had a fifth member it would have been about 5x as effective. I almost got a kill on you guys 1v3 multiple times with the build, it's strong.

Reporting them mercilessly is a good step.
Sylverfire's comment is good too. If you see somebody flame one of your other teammates, take the time to say "Hey man, don't be a dick." If the person being flamed is actually getting upset by the flaming it's pretty incredible how much another teammate saying that can help.
The unfortunate reality is that there is very little that players can do that isn't some form of you intentionally throwing the game, which is ethically pretty circumspect. The reality is Riot needs to be taking a better stance on stopping toxicity. They said a couple months ago that they had a team working on figuring out the best way to do it, and I am pretty eager to see the results. I hope they come soon.

I get annoyed when people shit-talk their own team. It doesn't even have to be me that they're talking about. I don't even care if the person is legitimately bad. I think it's outrageously childish and would rather not listen to it.

Just for reference if anyone was wondering my stance is that flaming is not nice but I have no ambitions to change the world. Don't think it's a very good use of my time when I could be playing dwarf fortress and reading about weird plurals of english words (plural of goose is geese, wtf?!?!!?)
vvvvvv I guess that in physical sports you are distracted by moving all over the place but when playing videogames you are just sitting and have nothing else to do but contemplate the carefully crafted insults of your teammates and opponents. Imagine if people flamed like this when playing chess LOl
LoL is the monopoly of videogames

Yeah I have been telling people to stop flaming when I found out that people actually cared about getting flamed.Everything for easier wins yo.
The plural of nexus is nexus.

One thing that I have been doing recently to stop people from flaming me, although I would understand if people think this is a bit of a horrible thing to do.
If somebody is flaming me a lot and I don't want to mute them, I'll pick a time when I'm going to recall to base, and instead of recalling Alt+F4, and immediately reconnect afterwards. I lose maybe a few seconds from walking to base instead of recalling, but I have a fast enough connection that I'm back in the game before my char gets to the fountain.
Then I tell the guy that if he keeps flaming me I actually will leave the game. Most of the time they stop.
I really shouldn't do that though, because it probably upsets everybody and puts everyone more on tilt in games after that. But man does it feel good.

Again, you are arguing on the assumption that somebody MUST play League of Legends to have fun. That it is the most fun thing, that it is worth the amount of crap you have to put through to play it. For some people that's true. For you, that's probably true. Just because it's not true for somebody else doesn't make them an irrational person, or immature, or egotistical, or thin skinned, or any of the other things that you guys are trying to argue. It just means they didn't think LoL was fun enough to be worth being harassed while they were playing it. What isn't sensible about that? Not at all.If I want to play league I'll play league. What people tell me is irrelevant. I'm saying you shouldn't let other people affect you with just some random words. I just don't understand how is someone calling you a fag or something make you want to stop playing? "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" That saying is pretty terrible. People aren't rational. You can't assume they are so while it might seem logical that some words on a screen from someone you will most likely never meet shouldn't have any affect on you it just isn't always the case for people. Everyone behaves different to different stimulus Verbal abuse can definitely hurt a person.
People are partially rational, and yes it takes effort to let rational overcome natural responses. However there is no reason to not do so if you find your enjoyment of the game negatively effected by something you encounter very often.
Verbal abuse can definitely hurt a person. Sure. For some reason everyone uses the strawman of "he says you should try to not let it affect you = you condome and possibly yourself viciously verbally abuse anyone". I basically never flame in any games I play at all except jokingly or with friends. I'd wager most people who are arguing about against it are more likely to respond harshly to someone flaming them than I am.
Someones playing for fun, gets flamed, doesn't care for it, mutes, okay, whatever, thats fine. But I don't like to see "what the best way to act" with things like "do X and mute" or "treat your team like retards" etc because you're dehumanizing them rather to simply accept criticism.
On June 30 2013 08:26 sylverfyre wrote: Warning: Meandering, somewhat confrontational post.
The thing about abuse, and the people who undergo it, is that society has developed this idea that the proper way to respond to someone who is having problems with abuse (whether it is verbal abuse on the internet, or in real life, or physical abuse, or whatever) is to tell them to "deal with it" or "just avoid it" or "ignore it" and leave it at that. Yes, I can ignore it. It doesn't really help me feel any better, though to click the ignore button on a stranger in the game generally prevents it from getting worse. But I'm probably already on tilt by the time I realize to click it.
It's not that simple. People who have problems dealing with abuse need SUPPORT, and they ABSOLUTELY DO NOT need to be told to suck it up, or that they have ego problems, or just ignore it. It does not stop the culture of verbal abuse, in gaming or real life, to "ignore" them so they "get bored with it"
People don't get bored with it. They continue being abusive. Possibly towards the same target, possibly towards a different one.
While I personally have a competitive streak, I also have issues playing with other people who get tense. When others are tense, loud, critical, or whatever, I respond in kind almost immediately. I can't enjoy the game in that state, I can't improve in that state, I can barely even play competently, and if it was not "unacceptable" i would probably just alt-F4 when I get emotionally ... overloaded?
It's fun for me to compete, but it's no longer fun to get insulted, flamed, or otherwise treated like shit. I ignore people who do, since they're strangers on the internet who, while I have 0 inherent reason to listen to, I can't really ignore them myself. I also report them after the game.
Yes, I have some emotional problems when it comes to dealing with abuse. No, you don't need to be an insensitive prick about it or post categorical demeaning stereotypes on TL about people who have a hard time dealing with verbal abuse.
I generally consider the TL-LoL community notably more close to me than strangers, so it obviously affects me more intensely when someone here posts in a way that I find hurtful. You're not all super close friends, but you're not soloqueue strangers either.
I would love for gaming culture, or at LEAST the TL-LoL community to be aware enough to acknowledge that verbal abuse is not OK, that it should not be tolerated, and to support those who have a hard time dealing with it.
If you have a problem, okay. However the majority of people I would reckon are fully capble of training themselves to not really care about ragers nearly as much, and in my opinion would have a much more enjoyable playing experience. If someone is getting super agressive you can mute them I guess. If people have a hard time dealing with abuse, then my advice to most people (not you) is that you should be introspective and try to figure out what part of it bothers you (from my experience 99% of the time its personal trying to feel superior to other person and his demeaning you causing a dissonance to that notion, when you should always try to stay humble) instead of just sitting there being mad at your screen.
I think the problem is here is that somehow that fact that I don't think verbal abuse is a big deal personally is offensive to you because it is a big deal to you.. However I don't think you'd disagree with me in that if you could find a way to completely at peace with it then you would.

That is kind of something I really like doing.
When someone says x or feed and I am higher pick than them I ask them what they want to play and just pick and call it afterwards. Most people's reactions are really funny.

DBlade start + waiting in the bush is pretty cheesy. Obviously I shouldn't have died though, wasn't respecting your passive at all.
Sunfire seems like a weird item to get for splitpushing when you don't need it to clear, since it will aggro tower if someone's there.
I'm interested in everyone's opinion though, do most agree that no ward starts on melee top laners is cheese? You basically die if the enemy jungler decides to gank.

Depends on matchups/junglers.It's just a risk you choose to take.

It's risky, but I wouldn't call it cheese.
Cheese would be like, if the jungler was also in the bush and not doing his buff, IMO.

I remember some fat wicket keeper insulting me for half a day while I was batting in high school. Actually happened often. Guess you guys outside of England don't actually play cricket though.
Then you get the practice sessions where you just trying to own the batter. Worse in hockey(Not ice, we don't have ice here) though. Insulting each other is just endearment lol.
