Well, I don't know about Flash status. Moon had his number in many tournaments. But he was definitely my favorite and he has an incredible fanbase.
|
DID YOU REALLY JUST ASK WHO GRUBBY IS? WTF
|
Oh, I thought it was somebody not related at all to SC2's Grubby. Yeah, I know that one (can't say I followed WC3's scene though, 'cept maybe 1-2 matches at the very end).
|
Next thing you know people don't know savior/boxer :D.
|
I'd say Moon was more of a Flash than Grubby was, that being said I didn't pay much attention to WC3, was a BW/D2 junky.
EDIT: Neo shen me. <_<
|
This Grubby discussion is funny to me because, while I am well aware of who he is, as someone who never followed WC3 at all, the name doesnt carry the same "weight" that it does for people who were fans of that game. At the same time, I imagine its a similar thing for people who didn't follow BW and are wondering why this mediocre protoss Bisu has so many fans lol.

Did WC3 even have a scene big enough to call either of them Flash?
Wouldn't comparing Moon to Boxer be a bit more accurate? I don't know shit about the WC3 scene but I sure as hell know who Moon is.
edit: To clarify myself. Flash was dominant and a god in a game that had a scene for over a decade. In the most competitive eSport of all time. I don't even like Flash but comparing anyone from any eSport to him seems silly. Maybe one day if LoL keeps up the scene it has now for 6-7 years someone (or some team) could be comparable to Flash in my book.
On the flip side there are lots of people in eSports comparable to Boxer. Dominant in the scene. Someone you know of even if you don't know much about the scene. For Quake it's Fatal1ty. For Street Fighter it's Daigo. For WC3 it's Moon. Maybe not even necessarily the best but at one time they were the best and they're by far the biggest name from that scene.

I saw Grubby play at WCG 2010. I didn't watch any WC3 at all but the game I saw was apparently one of the best games ever played as Grubby made an insane comeback in Game 2 to equalize the series against ReMinD, but then I think the 3rd game was just a straight stomp of Grubby.
Then I saw a Polish guy try to use the Stove against Jaedong. And Kal versus Flash.
Anyway, one thing I really hate is when I'm mid and we're even in lane, and jungler says "I'm behind so I can't give you blue." I never understood that. If I'm winning then I don't mind, but having them take can tilt the lane and the jungler really doesn't catch up by much anyway.
I do the same thing as jungler; always donate blue unless mid is manaless or unless mid is awful. I might consider taking it if it gets me level 6 but other than that I find it almost always better to give it to mid.

Grubby was more dominant.

@kainzero: Considering on 3.8, if your Jungler is behind, he might need the Golem exp to catch up in levels. It's not that strange tbh.
As for WC3, I just assume that "Flash" status means most dominating, which I would give to Moon. As for bad analogies go, Grubby is more like BoxeR to me. He pretty much innovated Orc for the longest time.

Grubby is just a fucking genius at strategy. His micro was ok, but that is not what i remember him for.

bisu -is- just some mediocre protoss
sky = boxer moon = flash grubby = meh some random

I always felt like Grubby has reached eSports Hall of Fame status with people like fatal1ty and rapha.

Boxer has more the image of an innovator, that guy who was so ahead that he could think up all kind of stuff, make it work, and thus improving the understanding of the game/tactics somehow, rather than a "dominant" kind of guy. I mean, Flash did a lot of innovation too (cf. the evolution of TvZ, notably late game) but he has the image of that super efficient dude rather than the one coming up with ground-breaking ideas. Screw you ninja Neo.
I tend to keep blue if I need it for level 6 (if I was playing more stuff like Xin/Udyr maybe I wouldn't do it as much, but when it's mainly Naut/Vi... ) but apart from that if I notice our jungle being behind I often tell me "just keep this one, you need the exp" when he pings it for me. Maybe I wouldn't do it when playing Swain, but as Viktor it just means I roam less because I spend more time shoving then backing for mana.

I could be wrong but I thought Moon's Mechanics was just much more impressive. Night elfs also just feel much more terran-y to me. Moon had like big expand big armies of lower tier units style.

Alaric, I am disappoint.

IMO Boxer is a poor comparison... he was more innovative than dominant.
Also, I just noticed the new TL Banner. Yay for Gay Horsies!.

Then the jungler comes in and soaks up the free gold/XP and the dead laner is furiously pinging the jungler telling him to not steal the farm. I saw that a lot when leveling an account through gold. It just turns me crazy :o
It is the classic. It is also the reason for a lot of bad decisions by junglers, because people shout at them when they kill ANYTHING in their lane.
I had a game where we got 2 kills in the level 3 fight top, one for me one for my laner, and my laner also died. So i proceeded to push the (already pushing) lane into turret. My laner pinged back. I ignored him. He spammed back a bit more. I continued to ignore it because it was stupid. Then he told me that he'd quit. Then he quit. All because he was so angry that i took some minions in his lane WHILE HE WAS DEAD AND WHICH WAS ACTUALLY HELPING HIM. He then came back at about 20 minutes just to flame me a bit more for this.
Some laners are so protective of their lanes that as a jungler, you just learn to never go there except to gank just to avoid the drama(and NEVER take a kill when ganking, otherwise the guy will again shout at you). Which is obviously stupid, but this is what you as a jungler learn to do if you actually listen to the people you play with. You also have to gank each lane at least 2-3 times before 10 minutes. Ganks which don't result in a kill don't count, and counterganks also don't count. These ridiculous expectations by laners are the main reason i switched to support. There are a lot fewer stupid guys shouting at you there.
