kind of ridiculous. 4 teams in running for a 20k sum (larger than SC2 prize pool). assuming equal skill levels, there's a 1/2 chance you will walk away with cash. where is the competition in this? so how much did Riot contribute to the prize pool? they're nowhere near the conglomerate that blizzard is. regardless i guess it's good for esports.

But they have to consider something, will some champions be banned? EG Skarner as he is a fairly new champion they haven't completely balanced it yet.

They play on a tournament realm on a stable patch.

For me LoL is the worst dota game, out of dota.tft, HoN, LoL...
But hey....since Riot is putting so much money into it....

Anyway, i don't see this lasting, dota2 will end it.

well i also agree with you, though i wouldn't like dota 2 being an esport. the type of game is so boring to watch, i usually fall asleep if i watch more than one game, despite having fun playing it for a long time. it just doesn't amaze me at all, kills go fast and often there is just farming for a long time. it's like CS for me, i don't like watching it too much, though it's not that bad cause here is more action.

Anyway, still good luck for MLG trying out LoL, pretty sure it will be a success.

To be honest I don't see why they are pushing this game so hard to an esport, its not really that fun to watch. It doesn't bother me it being at MLG, I just hope we don't see yet another catastrophic failure ruining the reputation of esports. Feels like riot would be better off directing those funds to get more customers playing their game, because thats where the real strength of LoL is, its very fun and addicting to play.

It's not that fun to watch yet it usually has the same amount of concurrent viewers as SC2 daily? Hotshotgg gets as many viewers as a Day9 daily and he streams for hours. "catastrophic failure" because people are watching another game on a stream and it will ruin the reputation of esports? /facepalm

Riot was bought a while back by a chinese company, they are the ones putting money into making LOL the next big thing in esports.

Always glad to see esports growing. Not every game on the list is going to be something everyone likes but knowing the fun I have from watching the games I follow I always think it's cool when another fanbase gets to have some of the fun too.

I do wonder what the fate of LoL is competitively after DOTA 2, but perhaps LoL being different enough and having enough of a head start to get it's own following (I mean there are an entire generation of players now who know Heroes only as Champions, for example) that they can coexist...but I doubt it, or at least never at the same event.

You guys may not know it
but the last League of Legends event that was held at Dreamhack
had over 180k viewers
not 18
not 180
one-hundred and eighty THOUSAND

now, what was the largest SC2 stream?
you guys really may not respect League of Legends
but maybe thats just your problem

whats good for E-SPORTS is good for everyone

this is EXACTLY why i have a problem with LoL
it's not nearly as competitive as starcraft but it gets twice the views
this is because it's much more n00b friendly and casuals like to tune in and watch

i fear that the fate of sc2 in the west is going to be the same as brood war in the west and the better game is going to be tossed away for the more popular one :/

Happy to see LoL added. Always fun to watch for me. Though I have to admit, it feels a bit rushed with only four teams, but well it's a trial run.

About Dota2: we'll see how Dota2 is in a week. Will be interesting to see what impact that showing has.

Also, why do some people consider LoL a bad spectator sport? If you don't like to watch it, then don't watch it. Personally, I don't like Baseball or Counterstrike, but I don't go running around shouting they are bad spectator sports, just because I don't like them.
If nobody wanted to watch LoL, it wouldn't be at MLG in the first place.

Its considered a bad spectator sport because it seems like you need to play it to enjoy watching it. I've tried watching it, but I just dont enjoy it. People don't need to play baseball, counterstrike or sc2 to enjoy watching it.

this is really just your point of view but there one big fact you are not taking into consideration
League of Legends is drastically different then Starcraft 2
there's really no connection to be made
the popularity of Starcraft 2 hasen't made a dent in a game like say
Halo 3

BW died directly due to SC2

So many jealous kids :D

LoL is an awesome game, very innovative even if it copies dota to a large extent. Will enjoy watching it ^_^

I much prefer HON compared to LoL as I have played LoL myself and its abit to arcade-ish compared to HON which is abit more like its predecessor

I play hon but its still kinda nice that the genre gets more recognition even if its not my favorite title.

Seems like MLG aims to break another viewership record in Raleigh.
