Before the match between Dignitas and Na`Vi took place, Kim Phan, Sr. Manager of esports at Blizzard announced the Global Championship Circuit for next year.
In 2016, Blizzard will hold three different Global Championships: one in spring, one during summer and the last one during fall. Different regional qualifiers and competitions will be held in Australia/New Zealand, China, Europe, Korea, Latin America, North America, Southeast Asia, and Taiwan to determine the twelve participants of each Championship. Each one of the competitions will function independently from one another, and Blizzard will also be partnering with third party tournament organizers to include other tournaments as part of the Circuit.
One of the main focuses of this 2016 Circuit will be giving the professional scene more stability by giving existing esports organizations and newcomers alike more opportunities to thrive in the game.
The Circuit will begin in January, and it's been announced that the first Global Championship will have a prize pool of $500,000 USD, the same as the prize pool for BlizzCon 2015.
You can read the full announcement on the official Heroes of the Storm esports site.
More details will be shared at a later date.

So something close to the WCS that Starcraft 2 has? More big Blizzcon-like tournaments, more competition, more games, keeping the game healthy, sounds great!

Sounds like a great incentive for pro players and teams to keep pushing and giving their best. Cool.

Seems similar to WCS indeed, not a bad system so nice to see.

I can't wait for them to add 10 new Murky skins where 50% of the price goes to the prizepool for these events.
Blizzard must be really happy that they announced this with the quality of the semis/finals we just had. It was really fun to watch, despite downtimes/problems.

I expected a more similar WCS system to accommodate competitive Heroes next year but the prize pool was surprisingly higher than I expected them to give.

This is very nice. I really enjoyed the Blizzcon HotS matches, so I'm looking forward to this.

Wait, does that mean that each of those 3 Global Championships is gonna have a 500'000 Prizepool? Because that'd be way more than I'd have ever expected.
For Blizzcon something like the DotA 2 system to raise the prizepool would be great too.

Something like a special blizzcon skin with all proceeds going to the prizepool.

Is this supposed to be replace Blizzcon or supplement with Blizzcon? I really wish Kim Phan would announce when she'll announce the 2016 plans.

Yeah I figured as much, given that 1st place might receive 250k, thats 50k per player if they receive a fair share, and only the players receiving it. Will be interesting to see how many places get paid.
