I just beat Maexxna on Heroic. It turned out to be harder than I had imagined, but I managed to beat it on my third try with a bit of luck and a lot of theory crafting in my head.
I'm sure there will be a better 'definitive' deck for beating her, and even my deck needs revisions because I found Flamestrike to be too slow.
My Deck:
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/9rbyx2k.jpg)
The first two attempts I tried Paladin because I was thinking that the Equality + Wild Pyromancer combo were the way to go, but I was wrong.
I soon realized that she was flooding the board and using removal to Zerg me down, so instantly Mind Control Tech + Charge minions came to mind. I also knew that she had a lot of HP so I needed some way to DPS her down and protection from her removal would be key to have minions stick to the board.
The saving grace here was Mirror Image, as they cost 0 when put back into your hand. Without that card I would not have gotten very far as you need 3 + minions on the board at some point to be able to snowball.
At the start I used Voodoo Doctor to heal my self over and over as the weak minions piled up, then I used Mind Control Tech to steal some minions, and I admittedly got lucky with some steals (leaving the weak spiders behind).
Things like Counterspell helped me avoid the removal and Arcane Explosion was just enough to get rid of the weak spiders in the begging once all the Death-rattles had popped.
I just kept using Mind Control Tech over and over each time trying to make sure I had at least 3 minions on the board. Once I had stolen enough minions Maexxna was top decking and I had roughly 4-5 cards in hand I was in a good place to start using some spells to DPS her down.
In the end I had about >6 cards left in my deck and about 5-6 in my hand (many too expensive to be able to make stick to the board) and was forced to kill my own Bloodmage Thalnos for a chance at getting either Ice Lance or Frostbolt to win. I also just barely got my Ice Block out in time (was at roughly 5 HP when the first one drew).
I used Ice Block, then Pyroblast the next turn leaving Maexxna at 7 HP. Ice Lanced twice and used Wolfrider for the win. What a wild ride.
I haven't tried the other bosses yet, feel free to leave your stories / tips and tricks bellow.

Beat herioc Maexxna with warrior. It was pretty easy as i drew both earthen rings early. Once i had the board filled up with 1 attack minions i just kept healing until i could use alex then killed him 2 turns later with korkons and a weapon.

Damn I wish I had Alex ... Lol!

1st boss — Beat on second try with freeze mage. Probably the hardest hero power to play around. 2nd boss — Beat on first try with zoo. Really easy with any deck that plays their hand fast. 3rd boss — Stalled with Voodoo Doctor and Earthen Ring Farseer, then Alexstraza + burn with freeze mage. Kept the 1 attack minions on the board, good to avoid Sea Giants and anything else. Battlecries and low-cost minions are key.
All their hero powers are incredibly strong so it's in your advantage when they play a card instead of using their hero power. Especially the 1st boss — large difference if their hero power is coined on turn 1.
I've got the win in my sights. http://i.imgur.com/A002dhi.jpg http://i.imgur.com/bZQRziE.jpg

I did similarly.
First boss I just beat with my usual Druid deck. Second boss I beat with Zoo. Third boss I went Rogue with Voodoo Doctor, ERF, charge minions and let him get 7 1atk minions out, then play Alex on myself on 9, Alex on him + Voodoo Doctor on 10, and then charge him down turn 11.
Pretty fun little puzzle.

I uh, beat all of them with face hunter. Lol. I thought Heroic would be way way way harder. Turns out if you flood the board with tiny crappy minions then buzleash the timbers is massive value. I didn't even change my list at all from my ladder version.
Took 5 trys to beat all 3 bosses on heroic. 1 on first boss, 2 on second and 2 on third.

i used freeze mage but with 2x elven archers 2x voodoo doctors and 2x ironbeak owls
is there any reward for clearing the heroic monsters?
|
if you beat all heroics you get a cardback. don't know if they showed it already.

Beating all 15 gives you a card back.

I finally get the double voodoo doc and mind control start and now NA is lagging... FML

Freeze mage rocks 1 & 3 with ease and any kind of zoo beats 2 with decent luck
|
It's sad that the AI is so bad. It attacks your face with the highest attack minion first when you have a hunter trap out. And in general make terrible trades/goes for face at the worst times.
|
First boss: freeze mage, relatively easy.
Second: this was the hardest for me, I used Zoo but she kept killing everything with the hero power even when I opened with the 1/3 taunt. Around the 6th attempt I got lucky, hero power missing a couple of key shots + Soulfire in hand in time for the 3/4 priest dude gave me board advantage for the first time. Overall I didn't like it, too much luck involved.
Third: this was theoretically easy but it took me a few attempts to understand the key cards. Playing each turn a combination of Voodoo Doctor, Ironbeak Owl and Mind Control Tech was enough, so I guess that all classes can win this challenge.
|
All normal bosses and first 2 bosses I defeated with my standard ladder zoo. First try each time, maximum amount of turns taken even for the heroics was 7.
Just beat Mexxna on heroic as well. While I did die twice vs it with normal ladder decks, I killed him first try on my special warlock deck(but I never used the hero power so probably some other class would have been better). Just voodoo doctors, elven archers, ironbeak owls and mind control techs and others with impactful battle cries. It was somewhat challenging figuring out a good deck because I don't have alex, but overall not too difficult after you get past the early game.
Overall it was extremely disappointing. The most difficult boss could be defeated on the first try after making a deck that can properly deal with it, while others got stomped to the ground by normal zoolock? The class challenges were more difficult but only because the decks were terrible, and even so it was a first try clear for both.
This content was extremely disappointing, I'm not sure why but I was expecting so much more.
|
I did it with a freeze mage first and then with a budget warrior.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/rPJYsfY.png) Freeze mage was super easy. My general strategy was to let her fill the board with 1 atk minions so I used removal on anything bigger, killed the 1/2 deathrattles and then stalled the game out till I could Alex pyro.
The mirror images, mana wyrms and novices just ended up clogging up my hand and I had to play around burning cards a bit because of that. In retrospect I think I'd replace the mirror images and mana wyrms for polymorphs and arcane missiles.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/D2MC5Ja.png) This one was a bit harder, I still tried to let her fill her side with 1 atk minions and stall with armour up, and the healing battlecries but this time I just chipped away with charge minions.
The wolfriders, slams and bluegills were pretty bad. I deliberately left out Leeroy but obviously it would be great in this deck. Gorehowl and upgrade would have been really nice too.

Hmm Seems freeze mage was the way to go against Maexxna... I did differently...
Won 1st try Anub'Rekhan: Typical Priest Modeled after Amaz (btw sylvanas not really necessary - just the deck i modeled after Amaz since I don't have many legendaries like Ragnaros T_T)
+ Show Spoiler +
Won 1st try Grand Widow Faerlina: Basic Zoo (nothing difficult here) - (Went priest against her in normal and nearly lost lol - knew better in heroic)
Won 2nd try Maexxna: Modified priest deck (1st try I used same Deck as I did vs Anub'Rekhan but just didn't cut it - 2nd try I made some changes and handled it pretty easily but expect to stick around 10 life most the game) + Show Spoiler +
Now my reasoning for the changes:
Wild Pyromancer - with lots of low cost spells(circle, smite, shield, mind blast...) to clear board of spiders (don't always instantly clear they have low damage - so okay to wait a turn) IMPORTANT: try not to kill off your pyromancers since they'll return to your hand over and over again to reset allowing multiple board clears... save shield for when you need to nuke for the 3 or more hp minions - use heal on the pyro if you need to do 2 damage
Doomsayer: just in case I don't draw my pyros
Knife Juggler: great to add a little more damage - and later on when she runs out of cards and just top decks - this is most of your damage since everything just gets returned.
Earthen Ring Farseer - good sustain
Shadow Madness: added to take out Spectral Knight/Sea Giant with Emperor Cobra
Stampeding Kodo & Stormpike Commando: thought would be useful... but by the time i could play it my pyro strat had already done it's work
Argent Commander & Cabal Shadow Priest: After playing I find I should've ran 2 argents instead cause it's a 4 damage nuke each turn (as long as it's sent back) - and same problem with cabal as I had with Kodo/Commando
So here is a simple deck requiring no legendaries (cards that people could easily farm or craft) that should handle Maexxna pretty well - as long as you draw most of your removal early - but you have so much of it that it'd be hard for you not to have it each play through. :D
Once Maexna is top decking against this deck - It's pretty much over :D

Anub'Rekhan - Trap Hunter with Mark and Deadly worked really well against him. Basically just clear everything efficiently and use Misdirection on the 4/4s.
Faerlina - Zoo. She's useless against a good zoo start.
Maexxna - combination of charge/trap hunter. Abusive Sergeant is the absolute MVP in this matchup -- pair him with Stonetusk Boar, Bluegill Warrior, Wolfrider, and Leeroy. Don't leave any more than 2 units at the end of your turn alive since Maexnna will sap them back. Earthen Ring and Voodoo Witch Doctor provide good heals, and the traps buy you some breathing space and charges for your bow.
Big spider starts with two 1/2 spiders and has a few more to play. She basically only has 1 attack creatures and Sea Giants. You'll win a DPS race if you spend your mana efficiently with chargers each turn (look for Abusive) and things like Kill Command, Hero Power. Leeroy is really good in this matchup -- once Maexxna has 5 units on field, if you have Leeroy in hand drop it since that means she can't drop Sea Giant. You're really golden if she plays a Nerubian Egg, as that takes up a slot and can't attack.

In normal mode I beat it using my regular Druid deck... one single Keeper of the Grove had his ability used 5 times. In Heroic mode I built a Mage deck entirely based on battlecries and spamming small minions.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/cxthzMY.png)
Other notes: - The first use of Deathlord by my enemy resulted in a turn 5 Ysera and turn 6 Faceless Manipulator on Ysera. - A.I. is uses Inner Rage is like a retard. - Zoo is the anti-Faerlina deck, it's perfect. - Class chalenges are much easier than I though.

What Druid deck did you use? I tried using my Token Druid that got me to rank 5 and got smashed.

I beat Maexenna heroic with a paladin deck.
The concept makes the game go very long but it's quite safe lol.
It revolves around stabilizing the board with aldor peacekeeper and wild pyromancer once the board is full. Using charge minions like bluegill and wolfrider when necessary
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/D4WxybU.png)
I had a few turn 10 just casting guardian of kings and aldor peacekeeper so that he could not outdo my heal until I got the truesilver. Then you can put it along 3 tokens (generated in the early turns) to be sure to have something staying on the board.
I was in fatigue for 3 turns when i won, almost full hp xD
You can cast wild pyro and one spell, maex is quite dumb and will return it to you to deal another 1 ae damage the next turn, that's the key of the fight :D
Oh and there is a wisp, so the deck is by definition awesome, to mess with the hero power earlier xD
|
First 2 is really easy. But last one is tricky.
I just let him fill the board with 1 attack creatures then stall till later turns. Then i charge him with arcane (still dont have a god damn leeroy) while healing with Lore. It can be doable very easily with paladin actually.
+ Show Spoiler +
Wait... Why everyone had a problem with first?? I did it without a tweak in my constructed deck.

Maexxna is easy mode with priest. She has so many 1 attack minions that hero power plus earthen ring/voodoo basically negates the entire attack step. Then you have very good value cards to sweep the board. Mass dispel, auchenai/circle/holy nova. Key cards are owl, voodoo doctor, earthen ring. All of these turn the hero power into an advantage for you. Shadow madness on emperor cobras is good for killing 4/6 or 8/8. My kill condition was Alex/Velen/Auchenai+battlecry antics/mind blast but almost anything will work you become unkillable quite quickly on priest.
|
Similar to others, I beat the 1st with a Druid and the 2nd with a Zoo. I had a harder time with the 3rd. I went from Druid->Freeze Mage->Priest. My thinking was, Mass Dispel, Cabal Shadow Priest, and Shadow Madness could be awesome.
Using Earthen Rings, I could heal for at least 3 each turn. I ended the game having drawn the whole deck, but had 8 cards in hand with 6 cards on board and Maexxna topdecking. Was surprised how easy it was with Priest.
|
I beat the first heroic boss with just straight miracle rogue.
Second boss was easy too, just used a stupid zoo deck with half of it being one-drops.
Third boss was a lot harder. Beat it with this deck:
![[image loading]](http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k88/Zontan/Hearthstone_Screenshot_7232014000704_zps23c2b209.png)
Basically just constant casting of Mind Control Tech/Ironbeak Owl/Voodoo Doctor, and then clearing with Lightning Storm + Stormforged Axe. Stabilized at 7 HP when she ran out of cards and then just killed her with Al'akir.
It's probably not the best class to beat her with, but I like shaman. Took me a few tries, though.

I've only beaten Faerlina and Maexxna so far (haven't tried the first guy). Faerlina was stupid easy with a random zoo Warlock deck that I put together in a few minutes (don't even have it screenshotted).
Maexxna took a bit more work. I don't have many cards -- this is pretty cheap (probably costs less than a thousand dust total)
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/6LXBZGe.png)
I basically emphasized board clear and card advantage while staying alive with Explosive/Freezing Traps and Snipe. Bluegill and Wolfrider were used as spells, essentially, to keep her board clear. If things were dire, standard Timber Wolf/Unleash the Hounds would pretty much always ensure I got board control back. Frost Elemental for the freeze on her huge minions (Spectral Knight and Sea Giant) to stall until the rest of my deck could take care of them.
It got to a point around 15 HP where Maexxna was top-decking and had no minions on the board while I had 5 or so. It was an easy win from there.

Wow, just used this deck list and steamrolled Maexxna first try.

Anub'rekhan: + Show Spoiler +Used a divine spirit-based priest deck - hero power/auchenai+circle to survive early turns, then made a giant X/X taunter and beat face with it. The opponent's deck wins mostly by abusing the hero power, and doesn't have any spot removal (as far as I could tell), so divine spirit-ed taunt-ed giants are a board clear at worst, and a very fast clock in some cases. This required 3 attempts to win, as the deck had trouble surviving long enough to play a big minion without the auchenai combo. ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/o7SDogl.png) This is by far the most expensive of the three - the giants are probably a necessity, but sylvanas is definitely not, could easily be replaced by a sunwalker or an argent commander or something similar.
Faerlina: + Show Spoiler +Standard zoolock deck, clear your hand early and get rid of worshippers and this shouldn't be much trouble. Three attempts for this one as well. ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/AZy6BUc.png)
Maexxna: + Show Spoiler +Maexxna uses the hero power at the start of every turn regardless of whether or not it is a good idea, so I stuffed a bunch of battlecry minions into a deck and did silly things to win (on the first try! :D). Voodoo doctor was surprisingly good, as was elven archer. Hunter's mark/freezing trap deals with the more expensive minions, or you can use mind control tech to steal them. ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/LZKommv.png)

I did first one with handlock, sideboarding mc tech. Really straight forward if you just keep restart until you have a decent starting hand.
Second one was annoying. I did it with zoo but it took many many tries as even when doing everything in my power to stabilize the board, those worshipers are rough.
Third one is super easy with freezemage with healing added since alex and voodoo docs are the counter to everything he does. It didn't trip my iceblock.
They were quite a bit tougher than I thought they would be.
|
My deck was also priest- but slightly different then others- I lack an alex- so had to work boss down slowly. Tried a few times with holy nova/wild pyro combo to take out her deathrattle minions- then realized that was not working for me at all. Instead I allowed her to fill up the board with 1/2's- and was super happy when she played a 0/2 egg. She ended up with a board of (5) 1/2's, (1) 2/2, and a 0/2.
Anything with larger attack I would kill, otherwise I never killed a single minon of hers- so I got rid of all my AOE clears.
So each turn she would deal 7 damage, which I could heal up with earthen ring, voodo and hero power. Then it was just maintaining hand size, and slowly bringing her down (which was slightly harder because leaving a charge minion on the board meant i might not get my healers bounced back to me- which is where my shadow madness helped slowly bring up damage while not putting a body on the board. Took a few tries but worked quite well.
I actually dont think the mass dispells are even needed once I finally got good with realizing the control I wanted- I think replacing with a profet velen would be great (but I dont own the card- so some dark iron dwarfs actually would probably work so if they can buff charger and if they are not bounced 4 attack- may try that out some.

I did not use Zoo, but I suspect you lose if you get a terrible hand with Zoo. People seem to think that Zoo plays around the hero power because you can dump your hand, but if you cannot dump your hand then you are just throwing low life minions into a mini avenging wrath. I would suggest running a ramp druid, or something with high life minions. Let it hero power for 3 or 4 damage a a turn for a while, it does not matter when all your minions have 5 - 10 life.
|
Win with hunter charge deck
|
Beat first dude with ramp. Tried a couple of times til I got to wild growth into innervate nourish, and just snowballed the game with massive taunts. Second I think zoo is probably the easiest. So long as you get a flame imp, squire or voidwalker you can play them, and have a good shot at still having a minion on turn 2, and so long as you can keep playing cards you're in good shape.
3rd I did it with mage, but I'm pretty sure priest with a lot of stuff works well too.
Also zoo is obnoxious as fuck.

Do you get anything for beating this mode ?

I managed to beat Maexxna on heroic with a warrior deck. http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/76498-maexxna-killer New here, so not sure how to link images.Would appreciate someone telling me
Anyways, the idea here was to abuse the fact that she could renew my battle cries, so you get to a point where Earthen Ring Farseer + Armor Up actually overheals you, so you can play charge minions and chip away at her life total without any danger to yourself.
As for the other two, I picked Zoo to counter Anub'Rekhan's hero power, though it turned out to be unnecessary, since he never uses it early. For the Grand Widow, I picked Zoo so I could dump my entire hand before Rain of Fire murdered me. The matchup was a bit difficult though. The key is to save damage to kill off her 2/4 Worshipper guys that give her 3 damage.
|
decided to go trap hunter against Maexxna, worked out pretty well. got a bit lucky--my Animal Companion summoned Huffer so i just kept chargin her face all match. she also drew her Sea Giants pretty late so i was able to burst her down before she could overwhelm me. fun stuff

Saw this thread listed stories (in addition to strategies), so thought I'd share one:
While I was fighting Maexxna, one of her Webspinner spiders died to incidental damage. Match goes on, things are going really well, I have Maexxna down to 8 health and one card (I've stabilized at 6 health) when she plays her last card. It was King Krush...
Maybe it's time to play hunter.

Heroic didn't take too long to figure out.
Anub seems to fall badly to handlock Faerlina seems to get rolled horribly by zoo Maexnaa just cant seem to break through freeze mage
Hopefully the next heroic wings are a little more challenging
|
1st boss: 1st try with handlock 2nd boss: 1st try with zoo 3rd boss: tried so many times and finally got everything right with a freeze mage deck, modified with heals : Voodoo Doctor, Earthen Ring Farseer
|
Just beat all three with semi-budget decks. So proud. 1st with Ramp Druid, 2nd with Ramp Druid, 3rd with Paladin.
Tips: For the first one, the 4/4s of his hero power are the strongest minions he'll play. He runs shadow bolt, shadow flame, and Locust Swarm (deal 3 damage to all enemy minions, heal yourself for 3), as well as small creatures which should be irrelevant. Tactic is try to get innervates and wild growths, and push out minions with more than 4 hp out as fast as possible. Mark of the Wild helps quite a bit to buff minions. Run Healing touch to use on your big stuff. Run Ironbark Protectors, he does not have an easy way to take them down, and you can heal them later. Always go for his face.
For the second one, just play normal ramp, but instead of trying to hold cards, play them out. She does not have anything big enough to be a threat, and her 3 attack will not really do too much. Her hero power becomes worthless really quickly as long as you play out your hand.
For the third one, you have to get a bit lucky with draws. I ran a paladin with Humility, aldor, heal battlecries and chargers. As long as you get a setup that allows you to play 2 minions that will kill her faster than you will die you're set, just make sure to let her fill her board with useless stuff with 1 attack. Since she bounces stuff back before your turn, and you (should) have no card draw, as long as you get the key 2-3 cards you need, you're all set.

The 1st boss Anub'Rekhan gave me hardest time as I lack a lot of end game cards. Got crushed with trap hunter and freeze mage. Finally won with partial ramp druid (no ancients, no Ragnaros. Just Ironbark Protector, Cairne, Ysera and The Black Knight). I still feel ramp druid need a bit of luck to pull out early Innervate and Wild Growth for that quick Druid of the Claw and Ironbark Protector.
The 2nd boss Faerlina, I just used zoolock as many recommended and rolled through.
The 3rd boss Maexxa I used a modified cheap and incomplete version of freeze mage, no trap, no Blizzard. Main cards are Elven Archer and Bluegill Warrior to quickly kill the Haunted Creeper and fill her board so she cant summon big minions, Hex and Fireball for removal of big minions, Earthen Ring Farseer and Voodoo Doctor for much needed regeneration and arcane golem for constant damage output. And just fill the rest of the deck with whatever stalling spell i have. The key is to just ignore all the small minions she has, topdeck Voodoo Doctor and Earthen Ring Farseer early, and having timely removal whenever she has change to play big minions. A full board with 1 dmg minions will only hurts you 1hp per turn if you pull out double Earthen Ring Farseer early enough
Overall it's pretty challenging for budget deck but still doable
|
Anub'Rehkan in both versions loses hard to classic Freeze Mage. Stall, clear board with Flamestrike, Play Iceblock/Nova on turn 8, Straza on Turn 9, win on turn 10.
Faerlina dies hard to Zoo, and even harder to Murlocs.
Maexxna was the only one I needed to modify my existing decks for. I took the Freeze Mage Deck I used against Anub'Rehkan, took out Doomsayers, Blizzards, Flamestrikes, and anything that draws cards, added Ice Barriers to go with my Iceblocks, then stuffed my deck with Healing minions. Then I just focused on getting her board filled with 1 attack minions, played 2 healing minions every turn to counteract incoming damage, then would get them bounced back into my hand and repeated until I drew Straza, then killed her the following turn.

Anyone know if you can play Lorewalker Cho and Shadowform to dupe the AI into replacing their OP hero powers?

Most likely the AI will never use the Shadowform card. If it uses, may break the little intelligence it has and make totally non-sense plays, or even crash the game, destroy the server or something like that.

Very interesting, I will try to beat heroic boss again in this way.
