So I was listening to the radio and on one of the stations I listen to, they do these prank calls where they pose different scenarios and make sure something amusing happens. Today, one of the people posed as a girl who was crazy but very, very hot. (They gave him a fake myspace).
This made me wonder: How much craziness in a girl would you be willing to put up with if they were, let's say, your ideal woman but obviously only physically.
Poll: How much crazy? (Vote): None (Vote): A litte, you know enough to make it interesting (Vote): Some, your friends think she's a little deranged (Vote): Substantial, everyone thinks she's a bit crazy including you (Vote): A lot, you don't know how to handle her exactly. (Vote): Absolutely batshit insane
It also occurred to me that some types of insanity would be easier to put up with then others. For example you might be able to put up with obsessive better than just ridiculously controlling or bitchy. Or maybe you have no trouble evading "strict" girlfriends but really can't stand people who are just out there in terms of OCD. So what kind of madness would be easiest to put with?
Poll: Easiest kind of crazy? (Vote): Obsessive (Vote): Bitchy/Controlling (Vote): Wildly up and down moody (Vote): Incredibly OCD, or other kinds of strange (Vote): Other
Finally, I ask you, what kind of personality trait could you absolutely not put up with? Maybe stupidity, or shallowness. Maybe you can't handle on of the ones mentioned above, or have something entirely new. Whatever. I'm just wondering what YOU would be willing to put up with, and then what entirely drives you away.
edit: This isn't about my own, or any of my friends girlfriends, it's purely hyopthetical. I get along well with my own or I wouldn't date them.
Personality in a GF is incredibly important. Seriously I cannot stress this point enough. If she has a bad personality or one that doesn't match with you, you'll spend hours and hours arguing on the phone and having fights and confused about what kind of relationship you should pursue

Yeah I guess I agree with this. I haven't ever dated for looks so I really have never been in a traditionally bad relationship (at worst it felt like we were just friends. no big fights) so I have no idea the true impact of personality. I have never sacrificed it.

I had to answer "other" on the second part of the poll only because the first three have the ability to make an otherwise sane man understand the underlying motivations for domestic abuse ;D
I am for a little bit of craziness though, keeps things interesting. In other words, you probably are going to have to work a bit to have sex because you never know when she's going to be upset with you on a given day.
It's funny though, this poll. There was a book (written by Dr. Drew of Love Line fame I believe) which broke down the factors for attractiveness in a mate. I can't remember what they are specifically besides the obvious ones; but the one that stuck out to me was only for females, and it was "manageability". In other how words, how easy was it for the man to manage her. Women probably don't like to hear that, but if you've ever been in a longer term relationship, it is very important.

If they are too easy to manage does it become unattractive? Because eventually it's docile, and I to many people I know that ends up as, well, boring.
OCD and moody probably. But it isn't only based off of personality traits. It really depends on a lot of what Moltke said in terms of how much you're willing to "put up" with.
The reason is this: if you try to go the "girlfriend" (or worse, "wife") route with such a specimen, it won't end well, whatever you do. Both men and women like to think they did well in love. If you try to put up with a bitchy woman she will lose respect for you since you are telling her "you are so far beyond my dating market value I will do anything for you". NOBODY wants that - nobody wants to feel they are selling themselves short & dating a loser. If she's hot she will walk away and/or cheat.
Of course, women will generally not admit to (or be aware of) this sort of thing and many will claim they want a guy who will make them the "center of his life". Don't fall for that. Women like real men who know what they want and have their own lives, not those who are "waiting to feel complete" through a woman or relationship.
So... be discerning. Date the hottest girls you can, enjoy them once or twice but be sure to stop there. Make sure the one you make into long term girlfriend and later wife is really special, respects you and does not act "crazy" around you or your friends and family.
Really depends how much better you can do. I mean that emotionally/mentally more than physically. Like if you get along with her really well and have similar interests then you will put up with way more bullshit....until you snap...then you gotta smack a bitch. + Show Spoiler +

Moody isn't always a teenage thing either. In all seriousness, women DO go thru crazy hormonal imbalances (usually a week before they start bleeding) and it's really unexplainable. Something that would normally be ok pisses me off sometimes and in the heat of the moment I could start crying because I'm just so upset over something really trivial. For me, at least, it's not something I can turn on and off - I can't utilize these emotional mood swings to my advantage and for the most part, they are really annoying to me as well as my bf. =/
I guess it comes down to how extreme the swing is and how often.

Yeah, I can tell.
I have a friend who one is day is in the best of moods, and then the day after, it's all batshit fucktard insano motherfucking crazyness. I'm not kidding here, it's like that.
;p but that's woman for you, hormonal phases make you nice girls, look like retarded bitches.
I'm pretty sure a girl who would dismember you while you sleep falls under the category of "absolutely batshit insane" so I applaud the surprisingly high number of clever souls who went with that option.
I really can't put up with a lot because I have almost no patience. The only one I could put up with would be OCD. Bitch/Controlling/Mood Swings = instant no re
You people are full of shit or straight up virgins if you think you can put up with a girlfriend thats absolutely batshit insane, I don't get this thread.
Depends how you define crazy. If you define crazy as being a bitch and arguing with all the time then definately no. However if you define crazy as in believing in the supernatural, having wierd as hell hobbies, or just being 100% completely weird then its definately a different story. I would often rather a gf that is the latter than a "normal" gf.

This thread isn't just about batshit insane. I put that option on their for the brave. And hell maybe they CAN handle it.

For some reason when girls are uncoordinated it's a huge turn off for me. It's almost like they have to be skilled at something or I question what they have done all there lives.
Nearly all girls are insane or at least strange, you just have to find one where you don't realise it yourself... Your friends will realise you and question themselves about what you might see in her, if not they are just jealous and you know that you made a good catch ^^.
My gf is the most sane, easy going and balanced human being in the planet and she is also the best gf in the planet I can only tell she's on her period when I try to reach for it and notice she's wearing extra stuff that shouldn't normally be there. ^^
i don't see why you would go for the the "perfect" girl when she's moderately crazy when the "marry quick" girl is just really hot without the craziness
There was a Dan Savage column in the avclub awhile back, where a guy met someone who wasn't his type, but was so scorchingly hot that he bent the rules.
So maybe a better question is how hot do they have to be to justify the crazy?
And people would do well to read some of his columns before they post a help me with this girl blog.
I just broke up with my girlfriend today. She fell into the batshit insane category. She had a lot of issues. Suicide watch for 1.5 years. Random breakdowns. None of that is why I broke up with her though. Breaking up with her was one of the toughest decisions I've made. But meh... that's life. It can be shit at times.
Every woman is crazy. Some more, some less. My advice for all you young dudes is : try to find the most quiet, agreeing-with-everything, nice, shy girl (less previous boyfriends, the better). As long as she isnt super ugly, fat or something like that its ok.
Most of the GF's/girls I've hooked up with have been crazy in one way or another. Some are just weird/druggy and those never worked out for unrelated reasons. I think I could handle it though. OCD, no problem, "bitch, go clean my room." All girls are up and down moody, this shouldn't be on the poll, lol. Most girls are obsessive as well, either with their looks/weight or with their relationship/bf.
I can put up with the bitchy/stupid ones the easiest. You just slap them around (verbally) and tell them what to do. That's my gf right now, I voted for substantial.
Hardest for me : If a woman tried to control me, I would slap her around the same way and she probably couldn't handle it and leave me.
I also generally like a feisty girl or one that has attitude, so that generally means shes bitchy and/or weird. (but generally crazy in bed too ^_- ) I guess it fits, because I am an asshole.

I know... Exactly what you mean... Girls don't stepover a guy who knows what he wants. Either that or they leave you. There's no dragging ass middle ground with a decisive guy
OCD is incredibly difficult to deal with theres no way that it should be leading the poll of the easiest personality disorder. a lot of you must have never met someone with OCD before

As I said earlier... hot crazy girl = great fun for a few dates, but don't go the gf way: usually there are plenty of other nice girls around; if she's really "out of your league hot" (no way in hell you can ever do better), you need to take even less crap than normal, or she will lose respect quicker & it won't end well.
I suppose my patience is a major factor in what she does and how much I can put up with, and dont get me started on when she starts drinking, jesus christ... that is probably the least bit of self control I can ever see in a person (inability to stand, incoherent babble, or do anything) but where the patience comes in I still love her at the end of the day.
98% of all girls are fucking insane. They will do things to you that are not even possible and end up on top. Never let a girl you like become insane and if they already are (which is highly likely LOL) just ignore them until them become normal. Insanity is the reason for most divorces.
ive already put up with ridiculously crazy ones. I think i've reached the heights of crazy, and can no longer be surprised and have become infinitely tolerant.
if there's one thing i think i should learn, or anyone should really, is not to put up with a girl thats too selfish. It takes a lot to be -too- selfish, but that shit is ridiculously hard to change and always ends in disaster.
On July 08 2009 19:51 SoMuchBetter wrote: OCD is incredibly difficult to deal with theres no way that it should be leading the poll of the easiest personality disorder. a lot of you must have never met someone with OCD before
I'm pretty sure the poll isn't asking what personality flaw is easiest to deal with in general, but which would you rather your girlfriend have. Maybe the guys who chose that option thought something like
A Typical Starcraft Nerd thought: I wouldn't blame my girlfriend for having a psychological disorder that she couldn't control and suffered from, but if she bitched at me, acted controlling, or took out her mood swings on me (all things that she could control) I wouldn't want to date her.
Or perhaps they were choosing the "other kinds of strange" option.
I would not be able to handle a stupid, obsessive girl, controlling girl. However, in terms of other kinds of batshit crazy...I am not going to re-type this, but here is how I got together with the girl I am currently dating:
In some ways she is more batshit now than she was then, but in most ways she is a normal girl that is one of the best bar drinking buddies I have ever encountered as well as being fabulous in bed.
moderately insane . i mean if she is too insane she would jump of the window or kill me then suicide for going out with my buddies or some stupid shit like that .
I was at a friends in Hoboken when they invited me to their friends house party. We pregamed hard, went out to bars, ended up at a diner then went back to the girls place to crash. Turns out, she is batshit insane and started a fight with us as soon as we got back (me and 3 other girls). She started throwing punches and screaming so I put her in a bear hug and told her I wouldn't let her go until she calmed down so we could talk things out. She kept trying to bite me and kick me for about two minutes and then finally stopped resisting and said she would relax. As soon as I let her go, she immediately sucker punched one of the girls in the face, giving her a black eye, and yelled at all the girls to leave and that I could stay. I was like hellll no so I left with the girls and we all crashed at another apartment.
We all wake up the next day and recount how crazy that girl is and how she probably would have gone after us with a knife if she knew where we stayed. Well, it turns out she did, kind of. Crazy girl has a private driveway that fits 6 cars for 3 apartments (each 2 stories), and the girls all parked in the driveway. After we left the apartment for the night, it turns out that the crazy girl took a butcher's knife and slashed the front right tire of everyone's car who had parked in the drive way, including the three girls I was with. Luckily for me, I moved my car and parked a few blocks away when one of the girls arrived late in a seemingly chivalrous act. Turns out, I saved myself some time and money and a slashed tire of hassle. And oh yea, they found the kitchen knife, broken apart, in the bottom of the crazy girl's garbage that was in her kitchen.
So, no, I would not put up with that much crazy. Almost everything else I have though.

That's just crazy. Come to think of it, I think she wanted only you to stay over so she could sleep with you and then cut your dick off and throw it out the window while you're sleeping.
I had a friend that had mild OCD (and depression I think). No one was really affected by it. She would get annoyed by stuff like, if the volume on anything such as the car radio or ipod wasn't exactly displaying a certain number. OR if we didn't brush our eraser scraps onto the floor, she wouldn't be able to concentrate and would keep glancing back. She also needed a separate room during tests and exams. She told us that when she was young, she thought she was going to die if things didn't go complete right. She would always walk out the door after her mother, or else she would freeze up and get all panicky.
So IMHO, having OCD is really more of a personal thing, not some "cute" personality as I would imaging a lot of people who voted in this thread would think. OCD isn't really all that... "crazy"
My girlfriend is pretty sensible most of the time, and intelligent, but she's got pseudo-OCD where sometimes she wants to pluck the thick hairs out of my stubbly chin as well as my eyebrows. Fortunately I think I'm winning that battle because it hasn't happened in a while =/

Its kind of sad how desperate males can be to have a GF. I've seen guys put up with the stupidest girls just to have a GF. I guess sex is more important than personality to a lot of people
In the end it comes down to weighing the craziness vs how much she makes you happy Everyone is different though and in different stages. Some might just be looking for fun so they put up with the craziness because they know its not going to be serious. But I think once you are looking for a serious relationship you need to find a girl who is balanced mentally heh manageable craziness :D
On July 09 2009 04:13 DamageControL wrote: So to the person who said we haven't met real OCD people. What are they like when your in a relationship with them?
I'm not that person but I'll try to answer.
Often frustrating, but still lovable, depending on the particular obsessions/compulsions for them. To someone who fixates on cleanliness, you might be "dirty" and touching you would be upsetting. Fear of contamination is common among OCD sufferers and could make a relationship impossible.
If you are close to an OCD person you have to deal with completely irrational fears on their part, and even more irrational "rituals" they are compelled to carry out, usually pointless and repetitive actions. It might frustrate you to see that she can't deal with her own thoughts and emotions, and it would hurt you to see her suffering inside her own mind all the time.
Someone who is struggling with OCD will also be very selfish, because in their mind the threat of their obsession or the need to complete their compulsion is so great that you can never be their first priority.
The good news is that OCD is usually treatable with medication and/or therapy, although the illness can't truly be cured, in some cases it can be minimized to just a personality trait. A mild case or one that is well managed might be considered quirky or even cute, such as worrying about you or liking to fold your laundry^^

My girl is OCD about cleaning, obssessive about saving money and higher maintainance then a ferrari produced by BMW.
Her types of crazy completly compliment mine.

wake up, pancakes in bed (her and her daughter made them for me) then before I even got out of bed she decided to clean my teeth for me (She is a dental hygenist).
I love her so much <3.

That is completely different. I dont even understand why you would even think of comparing them.
I think you guys are grossly overestimating you ability to deal with crazy. I've dealt with a shallow crazy bitch for 6 months, not even going out with her. She took my car keys and drove my car when I was sleeping. She threw my damp clothes from the dryer on me to wake me up so I could take her somewhere cause she put away like 3 dishes for me. You guys just don't know how many tiny little areas a girl like this can make you resent her. I lived with her. I moved all my shit out one day when she was at work, in my car, and didn't talk to her very much afterward. I called the police on her once for being crazy, just to cover my ass
Extremely little. I fail to see the need to settle and there are lots of non crazy girls out there. When I first started serious dating, I've put up with crazy in various amounts and honestly in hindsight it's a fucking waste of time, money and sanity. The worst part is, the crazy ones aren't even the hottest ones. That's another reason why they're crazy, because they're insecure as hell. Element)Logic essentially covered it. Once you get into a serious relationship with someone and actually have to live with them, you do NOT want crazy or drama.
I don't know WHY anyone, who has school, work, a social circle, and various hobbies, would want to waste the precious free time that they do have on a crazy bitch (At least, a crazy bitch GIRLFRIEND) . There are so many pretty girls out there it's not even funny. If you're looking for a one night stand or some fun in something like a fuck buddy however, I totally understand! In those cases, it's a must that you call them out on their bullshit. And you have to be prepare to drop them in a heartbeat, or be dropped, in a heartbeat. I'm totally past that phase in my life though. I wanna take a down to earth, sweet girl to meet my mum :D.

Yes this might be the most commonly known disorder, but guess what, it isn't called "OCD" everywhere. Second, if you already wrote a response like that one, why didn't you just bother to add "it means Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder".
I look for crazy in girls. why? I'm just so damn attracted to crazy. What homicidal/emo past wit semi suicidal tendencies and some form of odd phobia added with an odd personality trait... I'm all aboard!!
I think the reason why is because my personality is very...how do we say calm and stable.
Ignoring the first 6 pages of this thread... Shouldn't you WANT to be with your girlfriend, not have to PUT UP with her? Maybe other people think differently from me, but I just WANT to be with my girlfriend in general. -_-.
