bottom line. both countries have their racist/prejudice/double standardness.
not a kid, pretty sure i'm older than you and that means you are my slave in korea, didn't you know? Oh, I'm so sorry I didn't know, I'll get back into the kitchen now. susie this isn't a sexism thread it's a racism thread
FUCK. ok um... let's try that again.
I'm sorry I didn't know I'll ... go date a yellow skinned, slanty-eyed man who will beat me now.

(to which I reply, No, I speak English WELL), or have people say things like "oh but your people blah blah blah".
We have a black president after HOW many years of black citizens fighting for their freedom?
At the same time, do you feel that teh white people in Korea represent all white people? The ones here are GIs who like to pick fights and English teachers who think that they are the shit. Arrogant and cocky and degrading, as if they are gracing us with their presence.
No matter which country I go to, it's pretty apparent that there is a level of racism. The looks I get for walking around with my white boyfriend range from disgust to jealousy - all depending on the individual who is looking. So don't give me the whole "America is so wonderful" because although it might be nice for immigrants on a legal level, there's a reason why most asians stick with their own (Chinatowns, Korea towns) - and it's not mainly because of the language. If that's the most racism you've experienced in america you are pretty lucky. I've had situations where i'm with a korean chick and guys will straight up come up to her and ask her why she isn't dating one of her kind, and I'm totally fluent in Korean and respond 'shut the fuck up' and everyone thinks i did something wrong...lol I'm not sure what your point is about how long it took to get a black president. We have one, that's the point. North Korea has a nuclear weapon, would you say, YEAH SURE BUT LOOK HOW LONG IT TOOK FOR THEM TO GET IT THERES NO DANGER!!!1 DUHHHH!! No. It makes no sense, I have no idea what kind of argument you are trying to make. I'm not a GI or english teacher and will not speak for them. Some Asian ethnic groups in america stick together because of their crazy nationalism and xenophobia. Never in my life have I been told that I shouldn't date a certain group of people. I know guys whose girls would never tell their parents they are dating a non-korean because they would literally disown them and kick them out the house. Asian culture is oppressively suffocating and you have no room to be an independent thinker. Don't blame racism. Every china/korea town is in a big city and large cities are the most tolerant places on the planet.
What do you do in Korea?

Man i'm glad i live in australia, even the worst scumbags have the pride to not call police after a fight.

Cause it's right. I mean seriously, I'm not one to get into fights, but if someone else is going to start it then you have every damn right to do whatever the hell you please to defend yourself.

The school obviously thinks breaking a kids nose is worse than punching a kid in the face. Schools can't expell every lad who gets into a fight, but it is reasonable to expell a student who breaks another students nose. Frankly I think the little white bastard deserved it, but the young Korean lad is far from innocent and mets the requirements to have his punishment. The rallying just shows how fucking retarded people are. Huh? I think you underestimate just how easy it is to break someones nose when you give them a good punch to the face. I'm pretty sure the white kid hit hard enough to cause a broken nose but just didn't hit the kids nose the right way... You should be looking for intent here. If there was intent to cause harm, bam assault charge (assuming they went through with it... which they did) Also if someone attacks you then you have EVERY right to fight back. You can pretty much be assured you aren't going to get beat to death in a school setting but you never really know. To just stay there and say "well call the police" is only said by people that haven't been jumped before. I completely agree intent matters, but you speak as if the results of the violence doesn't matter. The results are what people see and have to deal with. Practically, we as a society dole out punishments based on results and intent. Attempted murder gets a lesser sentence than murder and punching a kid in the face gets a lesser sentence than breaking a kids nose. This is perfectly reasonable. The white lad is getting the standard sentence for punching, and the korean is getting the standard sentence for breaking a kids nose. The teasing and bullying also has results. I think there should be a little extra in there for mocking and making fun of the korean lad. Nevertheless, we don't expell every student who makes fun of another student, we'd lose every boy in middle school otherwise. And for those of you who think otherwise, a little clarification about fighting back. You're allowed to fight back ONLY IF there is no other option. This means, you couldn't get out of the situation in some other way. I don't know the particulars of this fight, but I doubt the Korean boy was in a situation where he could not have ran to an administrator and reported the issue. The white kid is a little bastard and I'm glad his nose is broken, but it shouldn't be broken.
I understand that our society, and probably most societies, hand out greater sentences to murder than attempted murder, but I don't think it is perfectly reasonable, as you claim. If you view punishments for crimes as a form of vengeance and payback for wrongs committed, then yes, it makes sense that murder gets a greater punishment than attempted murder. But if you view punishments for crimes in a more civilized and rational way, for example, used to take dangerous individuals out of society, possibly correct their behavior, etc., it is extremely unreasonable to make a distinction between murder and attempted murder.
Take, for example, a case where a man tries to murder another man with a gun and has good aim, versus another who does the exact same thing for the exact same reasons and has bad aim. They're both dangerous, they're both unstable and capable of murder, and yet you believe one should get a much greater penalty because he was successful in murdering someone. Under what rationale do you give this greater penalty?

this is pretty lol
are you aware that america/canada are the absolute nicest countries in the world for immigrants? if you are white and living in an asian country the racism is absolutely overwhelming, you can not expect in any way to live any kind of normal life, and everything is your fault i can't believe someone like susie who has lived in korea and america can come here and spout nonsense about america being in any way a worse place for minorities to live in than korea
just random shit i have seen in korea: i was coming back to korea and at the airport they had about ~70 vietnamese people that were obviously being imported as slave labor to work in the factories up north near the dmz... the viets were being screamed at and hit by customs agents
koreans backed by the police import south east asian girls on the premise of being dancers to work in brothels for sleezy salaryman
sometimes i'll try to go to some places and they'll tell me "korean only", so ill be like what why, and they'll say oh one time a white guy came here and had a fight or something retarded
lol
if american businesses did that, they'd get sued if america started importing slave labor, the world would go fucking nuts even half koreans trying to go to school in korea end up committing suicide for all the abuse they get from insanely racist LITTLE KIDS taught by their parents to hate everything not korean
god i could go on but its pointless if you have lived this long and not realized such a simple truth. we have a black president ffs, i've never seen so many stupid posts in such a short amount of time You think ALL of America is "accepting" as you put it? Metropolitan areas are not any less racist; the people there just tend to know better how to keep it to themselves.
And it's definitely not like white people are the only or "the most" racist people either (as I've picked up heavy undertones of in this thread). I am not saying that white people are less racist, but that racism is an individual choice rather than an ethnic one. I am a white person and I've been on the receiving end of racism many times. My brother was once on the receiving end of a racial hate crime from a black person and very narrowly escaped getting beaten brutally when a teacher arrived on the scene. Asian people aren't exactly immune to being racist either. The biggest difference is the ways in which different peoples discriminate. Blacks and whites are more likely to be confrontational; asians tend to get socially exclusive. I'm generalizing of course, but that seems to be the way things go.
Part of the problem, I think, is that as a society we are hung up on race to begin with. Even the same people who claim to be racially friendly go out of there way to be politically correct rather than treating people how they deserve to be treated as individuals. Take for the incident with the Duke lacrosse team. Currently they are suing the school because the school administrators went out of their way to sabotage the case the students had even though it turned out the students were innocent ("[The Dean of Students abused her position] by advising the plaintiff lacrosse players not to tell their parents of the rape allegations made against them and of the legal jeopardy facing them, and advising them not to seek and obtain legal representation."). Why did the administration betray the students? Because they wanted to be perceived as racially friendly.
For the record, Obama might not be the best example to bring up in this thread either. Exit polls indicated that race helped him more than it hurt him and that age hurt McCain. Should we be talking about discrimination by age instead? Or if we want to keep things racial, why are there so few asian and hispanic political leaders in this country?
But then again, as I was trying to point out earlier, thinking like that is also dangerous -- the individual running for office is all that should be considered, and factors such as age, race, physical appearance, etc, should be discarded. If we wanted to be truly fair, we probably shouldn't even allow anyone to see who they are voting for. But Americans would probably be unhappy if they elected a 400 pound fat guy with greasy hair and a pock-marked face.
