Tiny Shetland island declares independence
"Forvik owes no allegiance to any United Kingdom government, central or local, and is not bound by any of its statutes," Hill wrote.
"I also invite anyone from any country in the world, who supports these aims, namely to become free of liars, thieves and tyrants in government, to become a citizen of Forvik," he added.
Long live Forvik!

He's not declaring independence. He's trying to change the legal status of Forvik within the United Kingdom. I expect the government will simply ignore him and continue to treat it as they always have. After all, they don't really care either way given nobody lives there. If they just wait 20 years the problem will resolve itself on his death. Provided no other countries recognise his Forvik then the UKs claim that it belongs to them outweighs his claim that it doesn't. This is basically non news. Some mad hermit is talking crap and nobody is listening.

will there be jobs?

That's gotta be one looooong extension chord.

This is almost as good as that British guy who tried to make his own country on one of the old WWII gun installations of the coast or smething.

Well my father buys the Mail (which I don't endorse!) but they do make the news interesting.
They were talking about it on the News Quiz also and Sandi was ripping into him. According to them he applied for planning permission to get a permanent structure up! Which if he's ignoring all UK law he doesn't need. And his permanent structure is made of corrigated plastic and bits of wood he found... so clearly he doesn't understand the meaning of the word permanent either.
What puzzles me most though is since he lives in a tent how does he have a website?

what's the news quiz? Fuck I havent watched tv in ages. It's so far away from my room (20 feet) and i have surfthechannel.com anyway

On July 4, 1776 King George supposedly wrote in his diary "Nothing Much Happened Today". I wonder what Queen Elizabeth wrote recently. Maybe we shouldn't laugh at Mr Hill to quickly.

North America Australia Most of Africa Most of South America You forget that it's uninhabited except for him. So the government have no reason to assert control. As far as they're concerned it's a part of the UK which is rebelling against them. However given they don't have any interests there by far their easiest option is waiting for him to die of old age because it's just not worth dealing with it.
What we did in those places is asserted that we owned it. The people living there then asserted they owned it and we fought and killed them. What's happening here is he asserts he owns it, the Government maintains it belongs to them. However unless he declares war on the UK it's really not comparable.
