And Rek is right.

Gangnam is fun, things are hoppin' and 99% of all the English teachers here are maladjusted douchebags, who wouldn't even have the balls to be true douchebags back in their home countries.

Gangnam is Madison Avenue, it's Soho, it's Roppongi Hills,

Gangnam is Friends, Sex in the City, the Devil Wears Prada.

Gangbuk is East Village, St. Mark's, Alphabet City, it's Harajuku,

Gangbuk is Rent and 8 Mile.

In New York, I hate Central Park. But I love Washington Square Park.

I like the grime, I like the gully, the indie, the street and the skate, the dive bars and guitars.

I love the thrift stores and condom shops and the graffiti blocks and the book cafes.

I mean, me and my friends used to only hang out at Gangnam or Apku... and don't get me wrong, I have fun at nightclubs and gangnam bars... and if I had better means I'd go to booking and sexy bars and whatnot... I clearly see the appeal of those places and I have fun at them too. But honest to god every week I feel like I need to get out of here. I work in Gangnam, and I get so sick of the plastic girls, the douchebags with money, all the GQ wannabes with empty brains. I love the weekends when I can go to Hongdae or Jongro or Daehakro or Itaewon or Samchungdong.

This is going to sound totally pretentious, and you can kill me for it, but shit is just more real up north.

My favorite way to get drunk is on a street-side tent, sitting on a plastic stool with good friends, washing down soju with clam broth and stir-fried gizzards.

... that being said, let's go booking!

Chinese food in Korea fucking rocks, Dan. Don't listen to him, ppl... order some of that hahaha. And there is so much more to meat in Korea than just galbi, too. And the simplicity of sangyupsal is what makes it so beautiful as well, in addition to how it is prepared in comparison to what normal Americans think of how asian meat is prepared.

And HonestTea, you nailed it buddy. Sometimes change like that is good. Hahaha. Let's do one of those street side tents next time I'm around in Korea. ;D

It's based on real life experience and being told by Koreans themselves. If my post's dumb, yours isn't any better.

Korea is one of the most homogeneous countries in the world... if not the most homogeneous one of any relatively large economy in the world. Any country that has no contact with any other race tends to be more racist than a country that has much blessed diversity. But most racist? Strong word. Maybe most nationalistic due to what I might call a "small penis" syndrome being surrounded by gigantic powers (China, Japan, and the heavy US presence) so they thrive on their unity and identity and history as being distinct, thus deriving much pride from what they have accomplished so far.

Yeah I'm Korean. And actually very proud of my heritage. Was born there but now a naturalized American, which I'm also proud of. But a little bit of critical analysis of a cultural fault isn't always bad, ya know? It's better to admit your deficits than to never acknowledge them at all.

My words may have sounded pretty harsh especially written the way they were on the internet, but if you knew me, you'd know I don't mean it in a very harsh way at all. Heck, I even said I don't think "racist" is exactly the best term, just overly nationalistic. Korea's obsession with any prestigious event that a Korean is doing well in is evidence of this - seriously ask any Korean if they've ever watched random events and cheered hardcore for Korea even though they hardly care for the sport. Why? I say its to show the world that the Korean "penis" is growing. Yeah... Stuff like this happens everywhere, I guess, but it is fact that is is pretty severe in Korea.

Bah, I'm going off again. Basically, it's not a HUGE problem as nobody is openly really that racist but these feelings just tend to grow in extremely homogeneous environments as Korea is just no exception.

Nah, that's just how it should be said, yeh? ;D

It's probably hard for you to catch, but I unintentionally use a gyungsangdo accent. That gives me some major Korean points. ;D

Think you might be generalising just a bit much there buddy. And I'm curious are you including 교포 English teachers or have you just got a hard-on about too many white people being in your country? In my home country there's a lot more Koreans than there are NZers in Korea and I don't have any problem with that at all. In fact I had many Korean friends back in Auckland before I came here and I did my best to help them out. Like I said before there definitely are a lot of dicks teaching English here who act like idiots but there are others who learn Korean and treat Korean culture with respect. You should think before you post garbage like this. I still have a very favorable image of Korea but when I see ignorance like this it does bother me about how xenophobic some koreans are getting. I know the media is to blame for a lot of it- shows like 판도라의 상자 did a real hatchet job on English teachers by taking a few bad apples and generalising it out to say that all English teachers have aids and are only here to sleep with Korean women.
Edit- Anyway maybe you're just jumping on the rekrul bandwagon. Its easier than having to think for yourself isn't it?
