exactly. it is an "accepted" fact that most in america will drink and drive because, get this, most in america are in fact, accepted as idiots. you are but +one on the equation. obviously, if the next time someone drinks and drive and they kill someone, they will probably change their attitude. unfortunately, this is what it will actually take for most people to change their mindset on the subject of drinking and driving.
back to the intended question: i cant really recall the last time ive almost died. i guess maybe getting a sprained neck and having a concussion from a football incident. it was a jr. high scrimmage and after the play ended, someone came from behind and took me down. i blacked out when he hit me and woke up from hitting the ground, or at least on the ground thinking "damn this sucks." so i didnt move and an ambulance took me to the hospital where i then labeled myself a person not very tolerant of pain.

And who the fuck rides a bike to places in the states. Riding a taxi everytime you wana go out is almost as ridiculous. I am not made of money, nor would I go through that shit when I have my own car. Its pretty much accepted here that there will inevitably be drunk driving when people go out. I guess there is more of a stigma against this in Europe and its progressed enough that majority of the people find alternate modes of transportation. Also, you guys must live in some small ass towns if you can actually ride your bycicle everywhere.
Sometimes people just need to understand that customs and culture vary in different parts of the world. Read the snake vs. baby thread and you'll see what I mean.
Oh, and I dont think its fartetched to believe that many of you never go out in the first place. When you grow up and start having fun, you better pay for that damn cab, you hypocrite. get a fucking bus have a fucking driver get a drunk taxi dont fucking drive drunk

Do whatever you wan't but live with the consequences. Just because it's cultural accepted does not mean it's right, lol. When we go clubbing then there's either one guy who keeps sober or we take the train/bus and leave with a taxi (6 people 1 taxi ez price) or if we have a good time we take the first train in the morning.
There's a simple rule here and everyone accepts it. Don't drink and drive. If you plan to do we take your keys away. Simple as that. If one of my friends is too drunk to even walk/drive home, we call him a taxi and pay the driver.

It wasn't so much the alcohol, but the fact that I hadn't slept in like 24++ hours. Tiredness and drunkenness do not mix very well. That is the lesson I took home from that experience lol... Now, some people should say I should learn to not drink and drive... but seriously, we all gota drive home dont we? Not like im gona call a taxi and shit. I try not to get too shitfaced these days though. what the fuck someone ban this idiot.
btw yea unfortunaly i had many experiences near death. When i was a kid around 4-5 years i ate Rat's poison and i didnt feel anything,in fact when my mother saw the rat's poison box half empty it was weird because she never checked the box but that time she did for some reason and i later told her that i ate poison, so she called the doctor and he told me to drink 5 cups of tea under 30 min or i would die ;o

I never said I drive drunk or will drive drunk, because I won't 99% of the time. The main reason is not for my health or (anyone elses) its just for the fact that I'm fucking screwed if I get caught doing it. I'd be almost as screwed if I smashed up the car and it didn't work anymore.
The only time I have driven drunk was the next morning when I was hungover/still drunk. I was probably over the legal limit.
All I'm saying is you guys are nazis saying take a cab blah blah hurt people etc. We are smart people, we're not gonna drive when we are shit drunk. The problem with this though is that not everyone is smart about it so they have laws and people die etc.
I've slept in my car too drunk to drive before. Its illegal as well.

Paying for taxi is part of going out. If nobody in your local culture agrees with that, then be the first sensible person and do it.
|
It doesn't matter the cultural differences. At least not as far as how much you'd look funny for taking a taxi or walking, or how little your friends or neighbours would judge you for driving. The laws of sweden are likewise insignificant. Some questions are, why do you have to travel 30 miles to go to a bar with friends and get drunk off your ass? Do they not have a decent place closer to you? How often must you go out to this place, or especially to a particular place so far away, once a week isn't enough? Can't you walk to a more modest closer place most of the time and cab out to the better establishment on a less regular basis? In any case if you can't afford the extra cost of doing it with respect to the safety of other people or yourself, you Should do something else entirely. Definition of whether anyone should expect you to do what you should, and definition of how stupid you are not for not doing what you should are unrelated. Bikes are more safe. You're less likely to harm a pedestrian or another car if you crash.

I've got 26 tylonel 3 (with codeine) for sale if you want some (all). 2 of them gives you a nice tipsy feeling, i'd love to see what 20 of them does to someone.

I think drunk driving is demonized as a way to transfer our unease about the general dangers of driving to something we don't do.
Now, obviously it's not a good thing to do. Nobody is going to tell you that you should go out and drive drunk. However, a moderately intoxicated driver who is aware of that fact and driving with extra caution in the reduced traffic of the late night is not necessarily taking a more unreasonable risk with his life or the lives of the people around him than does a man who takes a long, groggy morning commute during rush hour in bad weather after a night of poor sleep, an argument with his wife, and a missed breakfast.
Driving is inherently dangerous. We drive at speeds and with an insensitivity to conditions that inevitably results in death from time to time.
We try to absolve ourselves of all responsibility, but the truth is we accept these deaths for our own convenience, and for the fun of driving fast (I don't mean speeding, but ordinary legal speeds).
One psychological maneuver people use to feel better about doing something they consider wrong is to demonize those who do something they consider worse.
Parents and educators who alternately neglect and spoil children demonize drug dealers and call for a war on drugs. People who overeat and don't exercise demonize smokers. Teenagers born into a life of privilege feel guilty for their unearned comfort, and for their failure to reject it, demonize those who provide it to them (who are "worse" than them by virtue of actively pursuing this outcome rather than merely accepting it). Unambitious workers who slid easily into a simple job demonize welfare recipients. People who have promiscuous sex demonize those who don't use condoms.
Motorists who accept a statistic of preventable deaths for the sake of their own convenience demonize drunk driving.
The habits of a person who drinks and drives will typically be far less safe than average, yet a person whose habits are safer than average might occasionally drink and drive. Drunk driving can be a reasonable, risk-conscious decision, depending on the specific circumstances.
There is another aspect, where people feel guilty simply for drinking. In a society where most recreational drugs are illegal, there is some cognitive dissonance with the exception made for alcohol, which is itself both intoxicating and addictive.
By focusing on the evils of driving drunk (which they don't do) people take focus off the evils of simply being drunk (which they do).
Now, I don't think people should drive drunk, but I do think we should be fair and realistic about it. By demonizing any behavior, we overemphasize its importance and distort our reason, preventing us from developing complete, mature perpectives, reaching sound conclusions, and forming optimal policies.

ahahah... someone's trying to defend drunk driving?.. take a fucking taxi you moron. Factor that into your going-out costs. If you can't afford it, don't go out. Wait til the next time you get paid. Just like when you want something you can't afford, you wait til the next time you have enough money then buy it. Frankly nobody gives a shit about a drunk driver's fate, it's the innocent people that you put at risk. Oh yea you know your limits ok, so did all those other drunk drivers who killed innocent people and/or themselves on road accidents. And no, because everyone else does it does not justify it. Get a damn clue.

the roads are pretty clear at night to support d&d.. it's not a favorable decision but you're drunk anyways .. drunk people don't want to take a taxi they want an adventure

Wow, just wow, The opinions in this topic are soo god fucking retarded I cannot believe that you are serious.
It is a fact that alcohol slows down your ability to think, leaving your reflexes slow and decision making poor. It is impossible to argue that driving when drunk is safe.
If you crash your car when drunk, your insurance is void. You not only have to pay for the damage to your own car, but the damage to anything else you might hit. Hurt someone, then your paying for not only their damaged property, but their medical bills as well. If you crash and kill someone, whether the person is in your car or someone elses or just on the side of the street, you go to jail for the next 20 years for manslaughter.
Then you have to think about the other people who are completely innocent. You are taking a risk with someone elses life. Something that you have NO right to do. You might as well be playing russian roulette with random people on the street.
I hope you do crash when drunk, I hope that you crash into a large truck or somehting and become paralysed for the rest of your life. Thats what you deserve for driving when drunk and its frustrating that youve manged to get away with it so far.

I don't know if its so in other countries, but over here, its just a neccessary evil so to speak. You dont see people callin cabs after the club closes. Now, I wonder how these kids are getting home? Thats right, they fucking drive. It happens all the time. I just got called out for stating it bluntly. If there is a sober person who is riding with me, I do let them drive if I feel like I drank too much. You really have to be pretty fucking incompetent or drunk out of your mind to fail in driving.
Anyways, if someone close to you got hurt by a drunk driver, I understand. You can talk shit all you want to me. If not, get off your high horse. I never hurt someone and I dont plan to. this is so sad FYI riding a bike is almost as bad. Operating a machine while drunk is bad and could kill/hurt people the same way. (sloppy bike riding and causing people to swerve and crash or whatever). You can get a DWI or something (I forget what its called). In fact it used to be the same charge DUI as a motor vehicle, but they lessened it slightly here in California. Besides, how the fuck do you keep balance on a bike if you are drunk? Oh you're not that drunk right? same fucking thing as driving a car.
wtf? are you really this retarded?
no idea for me to continue this discussion then.. im out

Okay, drink driving is never acceptable in any location under any circumstances. Anyone who says otherwise is a fucking idiot. It's not a difference of opinion, it's a fact that you're too fucking stupid to see what the fucking danger is, and a total failure at life.
You guys are the same losers that go to clubs to hit on underage girls and feel proud when you score with the ugliest fatass of all. Drink driving is not cool or acceptable, and that is all. I'm not saying anymore because this isn't even debatable. You people are retarded.
