I was under the impression that engaging with GH is always a bad idea and therefore should not be done under any circumstances? At least that is what I am reading across ALL threads involving even the tiniest part of politics?

Our news has just the one near Lublin and reports it as an accident. Multiple drones got into Romania and got shot down by F-16s though

The reaction from the Polish populace is going to be very interesting given the growing anti Ukrainian sentiment. Will this stoke that, or be a reminder of who the real threat and enemy is, hopefully the latter.
There is good news as far as US support for UA. Witkoff and Kushner are scheduled to go to the UA for the first time. The semantics just approved Russian and Iranian sanctions 86-12. Some notable MAGA influencers have switched to promoting US, with Laura Loomer leading the charge. Saying she was wrong and tricked by Russian propaganda.
Big swing from the Republicans in support. Motives are dubious, but I don’t think the Ukrainians care. Hopefully they can get the patriots to deal with the ballistics.

So far the reactions in Poland are relatively mild because we're getting slowly used to Russians being Russians but shit would hit the fan if it was an Ukrainian anti-air missile again. Perhaps that's what Russia is counting on.

It's insane that Poland went from biggest supporter to "shit would hit the fan if a thing that already happened 2 years ago and killed 2 citizens happened again" in the span of 2 years.
And all it took was a stupid decision from Ukrainians to stoke their nationalism and a bunch of Russian propaganda.
Nationalism, not even once.

Take out of it what you will but I've been talking to people on both sides of the fence when it comes to Ukraine and it seems that their biggest gripes right now seem to be that we gave Ukraine a lot of stuff, took in a lot of their refugees and don't get anything in return. Ukraine is making deals with Germany, Netherlands and UK to build drone factories while we are being treated as if we weren't there or didn't matter, to the point of them approving unit names that are insulting to Poland.
I believe that it's the effect of the war dragging on so long and it gets on people's nerves. In Poland we don't really feel the effects of the war (thanks to all the help we provided) but people are still resentful of refugees getting better treatment than citizens etc.
Personally I'm not so delusional and I know that any help we can give Ukraine is beneficial to us - even if it doesn't look like we're getting anything out of it just yet. And treating the refugees well should also pay dividends in the future. But most don't seem to understand that if it weren't for the Ukrainian's sacrifices it would potentially be our people having to fight in the near future.
What makes me angry though is not even the resentment showing up among the citizens but our dumb military not using this opportunity to modernize. And it's for really dumb reasons - if they changed the doctrine now it would be seen as them teaching the wrong doctrine all this time and they don't want to be seen as being wrong.

Ukraine is legit buffering a war for us and their literal neighbor is being resentful? Maybe they should also go to the frontlines, get some perspective. Man, modern times with all its luxuries really makes people anal about everything, huh?

That's part of it but it's a bit more complicated over here. We can't forget that Poland was pretty heavily under Russian influence not that long ago and some of the older generation still reminisce about those "better days". One of my grandmas for example can't wait for Russia to win because according to her Ukrainians are the worst people on the entire planet. My other grandma (RIP) on the other hand always said that after what the Red Army did when they "liberated" Poland she'd rather lick Nazi boots than kiss Russian hands.
So it's not like Poland has a unified stance on the matter among the population.

Lol my polish wife's grandmother (or maybe great grandmother) used the phrase I'd rather kiss a German in the ass than a Russian on the cheek.

Same thing really

Russia spends billions on creating division. That doesn’t mean there isn’t some real reasons for Poland and the Polish yo be mad. But those reasons are being massively amplified to anyone they might up set.

Well, this whole "what are we getting out of it" mentality is Trump's gift to the world, and it's pretty sad that it's so effective in Poland.
I understand that it's effective everywhere, but it's pretty depressing that people are finding any kind of validity in these kind of justifications for basically advocating for abandoning a neighbor to be brutally conquered and subjugated by a country which previously did the same to you.

There's a ton of fundamentalism/tradcatholicism in Poland too. It might not be socially acceptable to publicly support Russia but there's a lot of people who sympathize with them for being anti-LGBTQ.

That article is a gem. I love this part:
Giving away the weapons carried its own risks, he added: “People that you give that technology, they can some day turn on you. You know that is possible.”
The interceptor travels at “8,600 miles an hour”, Trump explained, adding for context: “If you go 60, it gets to be a little fast.”
He went on to recall an occasion on which five missiles were fired “at Jordan” and were shot down in sequence – rendered by the president as “bing bing bing bing”.
“Nobody else has that capacity,” he said of the system, before concluding that Washington “will be building many plants” to produce Patriots and Tomahawk missiles domestically – just not, for now, in Ukraine.
And yeah. Turns out nothing that Trump says is ever worth anything. I think on average, if Trump says a thing, it is safer to assume the opposite will happen. It is kind of absurd at this point.

Why are Americans so focused on internet tradcatholics? What makes them a bigger deal than all those real world protestants? Why are you guys so fixated on catholics? The last 2 or 3 popes were very peaceful and were often an easy target for consumers of MAGA propaganda.

There's an alarming number of fundamentalist Protestants in Poland too, hence why I mentioned them before the tradcaths.

Please, we have more Jehovah's Witnesses in Poland than Protestants... Music festivals in Poland gather about as many people as there are Protestants. They make 0.4% of all declared religious people at around 150k faithful in a country of 38 million.

Ya and they're mostly the Pentecostal/evangelical types. Ignore them at your own peril. They were once politically irrelevant in the USA and Brazil too but demographics changed a lot faster than expected.

For now they have 0 prominent figures in Poland and still 90% of the population is catholic with quite a lot of them being rather hardline so it's next to impossible to gain influence without antagonizing a large part of the voter base. No one cares about them, they're not spreading. If anything in the past 10 years the number of protestants in Poland has shrunk by about 15%.
