once your bones are stretched the calcium will settle in the cracks and bam, additional height.

I dont actually think that would work though,

You're not bad off at all. I'm 5'0" and wish I was 5'7". My parents are short as well, around 5'1". It's genetics and you can do much about it. Heard milk and playing basketball or just any sport helps, though it probably won't make much of a difference.

all your theories about growing up in 3rd world countries as causes of height SUCK. how the hell do you explain Africa where everyone's starving and they're still growin up to be 6 feet and over??

I referenced the third world/underdeveloped countries because they are noted for nutritional deficiencies, high prevalence of parasites and other environmental effects that limit an individual from attaining their maximum potential height. If you developed parasitic infections in California and/or subsided on a nutritionally inadequate diet, you can bet your ass your body isn't going to reach its maximum potential. I don't see how you can even argue this. If you're starving in Africa and you're over 6 feet tall, you either have the genetics that allow you to be tall, or have a GH disorder. This does not mean that person has reached their fullest height, and I'm pretty sure I already said something to that effect.

For reference:

30 seconds on google scholar. Its funny how much a little research can do.

I hope this was enlightening to you. I realize you're being hesitant to accept what people are saying on the internet, but try to be smarter and check the facts before you say they "SUCK". So that, you know, you don't stay stupid.

PS Travis I hope that wasn't directed at me, otherwise this applies to you too.

All that can be done to affect your height is to simply eat a proper diet, and avoid serious diease/infection. There is no way to make yourself grow more. If you are getting proper nutrition and taking care of yourself then genetics is pretty much the only determining factor on height. By the way the people saying "milk" are obviously easily swayed by vague advertising Milk only helps in the sense that it provides protein and calcium. A lot of foods do this. It's just the dairy producers ad guys are really good at what they do Playing sports/being active in no way makes you taller, it makes you healthier(which can help you avoid certain things that might negatively affect your health, and subsequently, your height) but not taller. It's genetics, just accept the height you are and be happy with it. There are plenty of attractive short women out there
Being healthy, it has been said, really consists of having the same disease as everybody else.

Er I'm 5'8'' but see if you walk straight and excersize abit for your body shape you appear to be taller.
Really nothing wrong with it. Goku was 5'7'' and I'm sure he'll kick anyone's butt easily.

Oh yes, because strafe is an expert in biology and child development

By the way please, would you people mentioning posture, explain how posture would help someone GROW taller? Obviously standing up straight will help you be a little taller, but it will do nothing for how one grows.

The point was theres NO ADVICE for growing taller. The lack of scientific knowledge is astounding. NO drinking milk won't do a thing if you're getting enough calicum and protein. NO excersizing won't do anything to help you grow taller. Neither will anything else. The logic in this thread is so bad it's funny. Plain stupid really. With the logic many of you are using why not offer advice like "buy nike shoes"? A lot of tall people wear nikes, I bet it helps!! Just because you're tall and you drink milk doesn't mean the milk had anything to do with you being tall. I'm 6 foot 2 by the way. Doesn't really have anything to do with anything but I thought I'd mention it.

Milk is no more important than other food with nutrients. Unless you severely neglect your diet, nutrition shouldnt really impact your height.

Congradulations on being one of the few intelligent posters in this thread. Oh and Haji, hes right about doctors being able to do something with hormones for patients who haven't entered puberty yet. Heres why: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pituitary_gland

Its responsible for growth as well as most of the changes encountered during puberty. Keep in mind that only a quack would use a intense hormone therapy such as this on someone like you Don't do it.

Stop it! milk does not help you force your growth. If in your genetic codes you get to be 5'11 than that's what you'll be. Milk just contains alot of calcium allowing the bones to get bigger and thicker.

I had alot of problems with this because of some stupid rare disease when i was very young so the doctors told me i won't get past 1.50m unless i follow treatments. And so, with the luck of having great parents i followed 6 years of treatment with growth hormones (my epiphysis and hypophysis weren't working well) and oh well, i reached 1.70, i'm not tall but i'm quite satisfied with myself.

By the way, everyone who suggested milk as a way of growing taller is a tool. Ok I feel better now.
