I read the news and I am really quite proud that Chinas leaders are going around locating resources like oil and iron ore while at the same time the US are trying to take that away from us. I dont think barring UN intervention in Sudan is anything to be proud of, nor do i find in any way constructive.

China's per-capita GDP is one-quarter that of Mexico.
So if a guy spent the last ten years working his way from having an income of, "Sometimes I find money people lost on the street." up to "I get paid for working a few hours per week for minimum wage at WalMart (but I actually have to work 14 hours every day to get it)." he is basically China's economy personified in every way that counts.
I am so fucking bored with hearing about how amazing China's drastically sub-Mexican economy is, and how since their government delivers this wonderful bounty of not blocking every $10/day international bitchwork job like they did for all those decades before, they should be forgiven for fucking things up in every other way with incompetence, paranoia, and corruption, then covering it up by controlling the press and making people disappear who say things they don't want heard.
This wasn't even about China. The originally linked blog entry was about New Zealand. He was mocking New Zealand political campaign regulation legislation by suggesting it was the kind of thing you'd expect in an oppressive shithole like China. The oppressive-shitholeness wasn't even close to being the topic, it was just a background assumption he felt safe all of his readers agreed with.

Wikipedia gives China's per-capita GDP as 7,598 USD as of 2005, Mexico's at the same time period was 11,249. The CIA world fact books gives estimated numbers for 2006 as 7700 and 10,700. So I don't know where your getting your numbers from.
Thats not to mention that China's economy is in better shape to quickly expand and improve, even per-capita wise, than Mexico, simply due to its geographic and political resources.
And as for "fucking things up in every other way with incompetence, paranoia, and corruption", I will say this. I will grant you corruption charges, though the government is making somewhat an attempt to curb that (how effective or sincere that is, I have no clue). It is however, more of an indication of Chinese historically than anything unique to the Communist Party. As for competence, China's government and long range planning has probably been the most effective and forward-thinking of any Great Power nation for the last 20 years, and in terms of geo-political power-building, economic growth, and accomplishing diplomatic agendas. This is the position taken even by many scholars and contemporary historians.
As for paranoia, there is some, but I certainly don't detect much of it when I am in the country. It has largely died down since Deng Xiao Peng's rule in the 80s. It maybe that I am affluent and live in the city areas, but there was no evident propaganda or lies designed to spread fear in the cities and people I meet. I however can testify to your paranoia and delusion regarding China from your uninformed and unwarrantly aggressive posts toward China.

The WMD's are in our nuclear silos. Would you like a closer look? I'd be happy to give you one. Don't be jealous of Americans. We know you live in a smelly shit infested little hut crying yourself to sleep every night because of your 2 inch penis, but thats no reason to hate Americans.

wow you dumbass i'm talking about the wmds americans accuse iraq of, and why the hell would i be jealous china has nukes too.
invading another country killing scores of civilians is no reason to hate americans? and your reasoning for hating chinese people is because they're poor? lol ur fucked up

Those are PPP or "Purchasing Power Parity" numbers rather than nominal GDP numbers. They take the raw data and multiply it by some factor calculated from the local prices of certain goods based on a complicated and arbitrary formula.
When someone says just "GDP," normally they mean nominal GDP, the simpler and more objective statistic.
According to Wikipedia, the nominal per-capita GDP of China in 2006 was 2,001 while in Mexico in 2005 it was 8,066. Hence, China's per-capita GDP is about 1/4 that of Mexico. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal)_per_capita
I'm not interested in your geopolitical characterizations, but I will source my facts.

Using nominal values instead of PPP is very deceptive considering we are discussing living conditions and especially for a nation who's currency is so deliberately undervalued. And your "complicated and arbitrary formula" is used by the Pentagon itself to estimate arms budgets for countries, and is the true representation of how much value a nation is producing.
Considering your railing against propaganda and quoting of Orwell, its interesting to see the convenient omissions and refusal to defend your methodology. And after a post containing accusations regarding "incompetency, corruption and paranoia" of the Chinese government, you are the one "not interested in my geopolitical characterizations"? A nice little hit and run propaganda operation you are running here.

It's amazing how easily people miss implications. It must go along with being emo, lol skin tight clothes and suicide notes.
I was saying I would gladly see you nuked (the implication you missed).
Also you have no reasoning. I said nothing about Chinese people. I was insulting you for being unable to separate a country's people from presidential policy.
Americans are NOT killing civilians in Iraq. Terrorist and Insurgents are killing them. Iraqis are killing each other mostly. You think most Americans like seeing Iraqis die? Your focus on your 2 inch penis has blinded you from any hope of understanding reality.

The funny part about it is that most of the stuff that people are complaining about is stuff that they've agreed to as a part of the forum rules and guidelines.
And come on, don't even act like we're free in America.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but while the USA may have gone downhill somewhat in terms of individual rights, we still have a lot more civil liberties/individiual freedoms than someone would in China. Free speech is just an example. Of course, I'm not saying America is perfect - there are some major changes I'd like to see myself, such as the legalization of soft drugs, or the strengthening of privacy rights.

You're basically flaunting that our nation is led by an idiot who goes around fucking shit up in places he's never been before. And we're letting this happen.
(Also, you really shouldn't believe what the American media tells you. In much the same way as we laugh about the Chinese government censoring their media, the rest of the world laughs at us for letting the American government censor ours. Where do you think the American media gets these civilian death toll numbers and causes? Door-to-door polling?)
"So what?" you ask. You didn't elect him, right?
So because you didn't elect him, suddenly all of America is vindicated for all war crimes, killings, bombings, and censorship of freedom of speech akin to that of China.
They wiretap us too, you know. At least China tells them clearly that they're being wiretapped.
And really, what the fuck is your problem? Nobody in China ever did ANYTHING to you. Yet you have the balls to go off insulting them about penis size (something that you SHOULD have no idea about unless you go around comparing penises with other men) and being poor.
Yep, you're a fine example of an American, all right. Penis too large to take note of anything else around him.

roflmao... lets see, over the past couple of decades, Iraq (twice), Vietnam, random small conflicts in Yemen (to test out those nifty UAVs).... I can go on, but just have a look at your own history. Might want to have a look at a history book (not written by an US author living in the US who has barely traveled anywhere) once in a while. And by "reason", I think the op is implying that the US simply makes up cosmetic reasons to do whatever it wants for its own, geo-political and financial reasons. At least China hasn't marched its army overseas to invade, I mean, liberate (lol), other countries for a long, long time.
I have lived in Hong Kong, China, New Zealand, Australia, the US for a couple of months (NY, Cali) and for a short while in the UK. Everywhere, people are the same. The majority of educated people are reasonable and work within the confines of the laws (or those that are enforced regularly) to make money, help out their family and enjoy themselves. The poor, in any country, have a shit life. Poor people in China, while definitely worse off than many other countries, are not that far off from poor people in the US. So far, the UK and NZ, Aus have the best social system I have seen so far, where the poor aren't starving, and actually have a pretty good life.
And having been to China and visited relatives and friends, I can say day-to-day living as a middle-class person is pretty good, if you discount the crappy air in most cities. People are very friendly compared to large cities in the states, there is very little crime targeted at you (no guns, violence) and the only place where I felt safer as a traveler was Japan. On the other hand, walking through New York city at night feels unsafe. And a guy nearly ran me over walking at me on the side walk, and demanded an apology. I have yet to have that happen to me anywhere else. Oh, and it was the only place where I felt if I talked about my personal political views (being an atheist, liberal who was for gun control), I might get lynched or shot. I honestly felt hostility when I went to the US, even though my cousins and uncles were living there, and I was living with them.
Oh, and one more thing. The US probably has the highest concentration of people who think they know a lot, and are extremely loud and arrogant, but when you talk to them, all they can talk about are their material wealth, their own country, and their own business/jobs/experiences. Although, hate for the US does unite nearly all nations around the world, including much of the UK and Australia, for getting our idiotic dog-like governments into your wars.

QFT. If I learned more Japanese in high school, I would be living there right now. Too bad gaming meant a lack of interest in languages during that time...

I was just about to QFT your first post. Now I can't because it'll look like we're e-69ing.
