If someone said "the postbellum American South was a great place to live if you ignore the treatment of black people, they were treated better minorities in the Ottoman Empire at least" you'd probably laugh in their face. The communists are guilty of the same shit. And what Israel is doing is exactly what many of our “leftists” are calling for in regards to “Nazis” or “capitalists”. This is what it looks like to try to completely eliminate a group of insurgents in an urban environment.

Well I do this thing where I call people far right based on their ideology and their policies, rather than based on the region they're in. Does Isreal have far right policies in regards to lgbt, trans, abortion, women’s rights? And then separately How much further left are they than Gaza, West Bank, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria? Can you see how Israel being “far right” in your opinion, might not be the main reason, or even in the top 5 for why this is an issue? Can you not look historically at “far left” countries doing the same or worse?
No, Israel doesn't have far right policies in regards to lgbt, trans, abortion, women's rights. They do have extreme far right policies however when it comes to Palestinians, which you apparently don't care about at all but you should, Palestinians are also humans and also deserve human rights. This is, as usual, very simple.
I have never really understood why you're so comfortable with telling gay Palestinians who were killed by IDF bombings: "Rejoice! At least the people who did this didn't kill you because you're gay, they killed you because you're Palestinian". That's not a good argument. If a government is enacting far right policies based on far right justifications, then it is far right, and what you should do is describe it as far right, that's how words work. We don't need to first check if there are some other contexts in which the government is not far right or if Joel Webbon is in the vicinity to be a larger fascist.
We know that Netanyahu is a far right leader because his policies on the treatment of Palestinians in the West Bank (with military and monetary support for settlements), in Gaza (with ethnic cleansing) and in Israel (with a very clear two tier society where Palestinians are on the bottom) are far right. We know because his rhetoric his entire life has been far right rhetoric. We also know because he is reaching out to far right parties all over Europe and with Trump for allyship, he's not confused where he stands on the political spectrum, you're the only person in the equation who is. The dude literally couldn't be more of a textbook example of a far right leader who knows that they are a far right leader and is comfortable with being a far right leader.

Why did you bring up communists? Are there communists in this thread? Do any communists have any significant influence over the Israel-Palestine conflict?
Please, we know the realities of urban warfare. Urban warfare doesn't justify settlers stealing land, houses, and resources from Palestinians. Urban warfare doesn't justify ⅔rds of all journalist warzone deaths happening in Gaza. Urban warfare doesn't justify Ben-Gvir and Smotrich crying for rivers of blood of Arab children and getting shrugged off despite being government ministers.

There are evil people of every ideology. There are evil people with no ideology. There are evil people who have appropriated an ideology that was intended to oppose the very evils done in its name. I don't think any of these statements are controversial. "Communists have done bad things" doesn't mean Zionism (at least in its current existent state represented by a consistent majority of Israeli voters) isn't an evil ideology. I'm still really lost why this was brought up at all.

People from every ideology have the capacity to do bad shit, it's not any kind of point at all. Centrists do bad shit all the time as well, Biden defended Netanyahu for his whole-ass term (as did you, under the JimmiC monicker), the US supported Suharto and about 975000 other dictators who killed untold amount of humans under the premise of anticommunism. Let alone support, they killed massive amounts of people themselves in Nagasaki, in Vietnam or wherever else tickled Kissinger's fancy.
The difference is that doing these things is central to being an extreme rightwinger, that's the defining characteristic of the ideology. If you do not target and mistreat, or have the will to target and mistreat, any group, then you are, by definition, not far right. You can easily define being a liberal without talking about casually dropping napalm on Cambodia because the planes are too heavy to reach Vietnam, and you can easily define being a socialist without talking about executing landlords. You cannot talk about being far right without talking about the identity groups that you plan to treat worse than others.

If Israel was a Bolshevik state that was massacring/starving Palestinians the same way Stalin ordered the Katyn massacre or Holodomor I'd say the USA should end all our military and financial support of them, no different than now.

Well Jimmi, it's unclear what you believe because in the first edit you say "of course Netanyahu is to the right of Trump", and then in the second edit you say "Israel is most left". So I don't really know how to respond, do you think that it's to the right of the far right or to the left of the far right... It's all very mysterious. It’s not hard to figure out xDaunt, you just have to read the actual words. Hint, the US isn’t in Israel’s region. Mush brain populists might struggle, because critical thinking is hard. We know that Netanyahu is a far right leader because his policies on the treatment of Palestinians in the West Bank (with military and monetary support for settlements), in Gaza (with ethnic cleansing) and in Israel (with a very clear two tier society where Palestinians are on the bottom) is far right. I haven’t done or thought any of the things you accuse me of. You just have to stoop to that because you don’t have any actual arguments for my actual positions. I see, I guess I was wrong then, I thought that you wanted to argue against Netanyahu being far right, but you do not, you agree with me that he is. Excellent. Still missing the boat, guess when it gets more complicated than right bad or israel bad, you just can’t keep up.
I would say Israel is far right, and that this is what makes them bad. Let me explain a bit. Israel's attitude to LGBT+ people is that if they are Israeli, they can be whoever they want. If they are Palestinian, then regardless of whether they are LGBT+ they can get fucked and die in a fire.
There is a clear sense of purpose and hierarchy of beliefs here, and the number 1 top of the pyramid essential belief is that all Palestinians are bad and deserve to die. Now they can treat Israeli citizens according to whatever rules they want to, they aren't washing off the far right stain that their beliefs about Palestinians (and more often than not Arab muslims in general) has put all over their country.
If Israel functioned as a sanctuary state for LGBT+ muslims then sure, I'd be willing to bend on whether they were far right or not. As it is their defining purpose and attribute is their far right attitude to their neighbours.

Because if the analysis is that they are doing all this bad shit because they are evil right wingers than that far leftists do the same is a pretty good counter argument that maybe that is not the only thing to be looking at. Because we have users in here that bring every issue down to left right, even when not applicable. We also have had users who have called for what Israel is doing to happen to the far right or capitalists. And Hamas is as far right as it gets, so you think they would have some sort of awakening that maybe killing all their “enemies” isn’t as cool as it sounds. It’s entirely relevant in a context where Israel’s conduct has got progressively worse the more its government has pivoted to the right, or this specific form of right wing, nationalist politics.
Israel can’t have it both ways, if they want to extol their virtues as a liberal, egalitarian democracy, they shall be judged by the kind of standards of similar states.
You know how it was always worse when your parents go ‘I’m not angry, I’m just disappointed’? Similar kinda vibe on a macro scale.
Nobody on here, to my knowledge anyway endorse Hamas, nor have any kind of expectation of them. I’m unsure why they’re invoked so often in this thread in certain ways.

All of you are forgetting the Arabs and Palestinians living peacefully embedded in Israel's society that Israel doesn't give a fuck about. Hmm, perhaps killing them because Palestinians are bad and deserve to die isn't really the full story. I personally don't think it adds anything relevant to this discussion to put on tags on this conflict. I've seen both ends of the political spectrum commit the worst atrocities and even team up when forming coalitions. Partys take 180° turns after a couple of years on "essential and central" policies or topics... you are either an asshole or you're not. The left/right monicker is utterly useless for that, as most people can't think on their own anymore and are simply topic-related opportunists to their tribe.
@Wombat I think you are right in saying that truly bad stuff can simply be called bad. But isn't that exactly the issue? That some people might question if ministers actually said heinous things about all Palestinians when the broader context was the attack on Israel or Hamas? Settlements are probably the clearest example here. But who on this thread is actually defending these?

Who says urban warfare justifies any of that? Who actually made that point? Who even defended the settlements?
It is again a sligh trick to change "explain" to "justify". You further came at me with the journalist example, ignored all other context and numbers I brought up, but retained the 2/3 thing you found when reading up the argument about the CPJ. That is exactly the selective posting of informations that this thread is plagued by. But perhaps you simply overlooked the two posts I addressed to you, which showed just how much of an odd-man-out Gaza is: https://tl.net/forum/general/573090-things-arent-peaceful-in-palestine?page=539#10771
Btw: Which Ben-Gvir and Smotrich quotes are you referring to where they "cry for rivers of blood of Arab children"?

I don’t believe any have defended settlements no, there’s just a ton of ecquivocation at times on this conflict, IMO anyway. Especially in places that aren’t here, here’s generally reasonable.
It feels to me a lot more energy is expended on the genocide question, or other things than in condemning the things most of us apparently agree on. Perhaps as forumibg is boring if we all agree, but it can give a certain impression.
Ben-Gvir is such a reprehensible individual that wouldn’t even be his worst quote if he did say something in that vein. The man is an extremist zealot, we don’t tend to get those in elected office in Europe at worst it’s bigoted populists

I decided it probably wasn't worth the effort to engage with you after you decided the source you recommended I consult wasn't reliable because it said something you disagreed with. No hard feelings.

Doesn't seem true, don't remember you being annoyed with people hating Putin too much in the Ukraine thread, or hating Trump too much in the US thread. It's only when we go after Netanyahu that it suddenly triggers this weird sidequest in you. Sounds like you're trying to come up with a justification for your posting after the fact.
