It's pretty worrying if it's actually true. China buying up all stock of medical supplies on foreign markets, banning internal flights while allowing international ones and encouraging rampant racism inside their borders...
I watched 60 seconds before the number of red flags became overwhelming in that video...

I'm just fascinated, that there are still people around, who are surprised about stuff like that. China is and has always been a totalitarian state, they don't just have concentration camps for laughs and giggles! If you're expecting anything else but nationalism and xenophobia from China you've been living in a fantasy land and I am genuinely sorry to burst your bubble. But at least this pandemic seems to finally open the eyes of some people. China will only be your friend as long as your relationship is benefiting The People's Republic of China. If you want the honest truth about China all you'll have to do is ask the people of Hong Kong and Taiwan...
It’s concerning but not surprising some countries aren’t being transparent with their numbers. Data sharing is our strongest ally during a pandemic. Especially for a novelty virus, if we can figure out what works and what doesn’t then that just saves countless lives down the road.

That’s the situation in a lot of countries for a while, probably most notably the US and Japan. There’s definitely a spike in cardiac and respiratory failure that they’re not attributing to coronavirus because they’re not testing or testing fast enough. Coronavirus numbers are honestly underreported in both cases and deaths in regions where it’s clearly gone out of control, which is why you wanted to get this thing under control ASAP.
I know two people who have known people who have just died from “pneumonia” in Tokyo alone. Would not be surprised if Moscow is suppressing numbers through limited testing so they don’t spook the population and economy.
Earlier this week I was walking my dogs in my neighborhood, and about a quarter mile from my apartment there was an ambulance. As I approached, I realized that all of the paramedics were wearing hazmat suits. They were rescuing a young woman who was coughing and wheezing like crazy, and moaning in agony. Pretty obvious COVID case. It spooked the hell out of me.
The other story is that today I was furloughed by my employer and had to file for unemployment insurance for the first time in my life. I work in the gambling industry testing casino software and hardware, and since all the casinos are closed indefinitely all the work has dried up.
These are dire times. Hang in there everybody.
Regarding the controversy in this thread today, theories about the source and blame for the virus abound on YouTube. It's pretty clear that the TL mods want it to remain there. But to the people above, I think it's good to rely on data first, and have the analysis come from that.
I have been watching this channel that gives daily data analysis of official case counts to speculate about potential realistic scenarios for the course of the pandemic. He doesn't think China is wildly manipulating data, because the spread rate is indistinguishable from other countries in the early phase of the outbreak. I personally don't think there's any reason not to believe that widespread, enforced quarantines in China effectively reduced contagion. As an American, I don't think I'd want to live under such a regime, but epidemiology is pretty clear about this.
French media is still there in China and doesn't think it makes a lot of sense to talk about China manipulating data in the way some people do. It's true that they can hide like 2x the amount of deaths, maybe 2.5-3x the amounts of deaths or something like that, by changing the way they count the sick and stuff like that. Some people also die at home like they do everywhere else. But if several hundreds of thousands of people had died of Covid in China like I've heard online in a few places, it's not very realistic that China could just say "lol 3k" and we wouldn't see anything.
after 2 weeks of isolation with flu-like symptoms, was feeling fine and went back to work; 1 week in and i think those fuckers might've given me something - sore throat and my voice lowered in timbre. i'm trying a 3 days weekend mini-isolation; seems fine for now, no fever.
our county hospital is in full military quarantine with the medical staff staying in nearby hotels. we're also in total quarantine, 3'rd week now, masks are mandatory(it's semi enforced 'cause when you see people whose white masks turned black ... while they keep moving/readjusting it with their hands; those dudes are better off), police cars are at every entry/exit point of the quarantine zone, the military is spraying public places with ... stuff, i don't know what, assuming some disinfectant obviously(they've started with the hospital and hospital area then expanded their coverage).
some agricultural goods were banned from being exported while people are being shipped to Germany, Austria, Italy to work(seasonal workers - 40000 in april and another 40000 in may in Germany alone)). we're at 5467 with 270 dead and ~55000 tests done so far which means we're seriously under-testing people.
edit: we're at 1530 cases here which is a little under a third of all confirmed cases country wide.
Minnesota finally passed a bill making all first responders that get COVID-19 automatically eligible for worker's comp.
Unfortunately, it isn't retroactive and people are only eligible from the day the bill is enacted. I work as a paramedic and I know quite a few people that were already sideline by it. Luckily, my employer voluntarily gave anyone who tested positive workers comp, but I know plenty of EMS systems here that didn't.
If there was a coverup in China it's long over. At least since February videos of the situation in China started to emerge on twitter. I also followed the global times feed, and I can assure you that they were warning the west about this around February while still no government here took it seriously in time. Russia, Singapore and Taiwan were the first to close their borders.
Finding old posts on their feed is a pain with no account, so I can hardly go back and find the source. But will just remove the claims if requested.
In general, how about we start cleaning up in front of our own doorsteps first? This obsession with China is getting on my nerves, and we can't fix our own problems but some suggest 'we' have to make them fix theirs. Everyone's good at pointing a finger, not so much at lifting one.
I hope this doesn't touch upon politics as much as the timeline of information regarding the virus, but claiming that China sent no warnings before it even hit Italy is just factually wrong. In my opinion, it was the European governments that were exceptionally unwilling to enforce measures in due time, most of all locking borders and sending foreigners home, because locking borders conflicted with EU law.
Btw seems I was wrong about trusting google not to share my positional data with basically everyone.
