Anyway favorite Korean movie (I'm Korean) = Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance I think that Chingoo is decent but overrated, and that Taegukki is waaaay overrated. My Sassy Girl is probably the best romantic comedy in the history of the universe too :O

Also, Bly, I think the movie you're talkin about is two sisters or something. Schizo? I never saw Silmido and some of the other movies here, I've missed too. I dislike Taeguki though. I like JSA and Chingu, that was a good time for Korean cinema. Also, the Sympathy for Vengence movies.. OMG... just seriously... OMG. They are so sick it's great. I heard old boy is a part of the "triology" too, but I really liked all 3, but MR. was definately the best one. I had to actually try and finish Mrs. twice. Anyone remember that old movie with some famous people, Christmas in August or something? lololol my 1st gf ever made me watch that movie like 3 times... ugh, I feel so awkward watching that movie always

"'R-Point' - refers to a once strategically important region in an island 150 km south of HO Chi Minh city. French soldiers were fascinated by the beauty of the island, upon which a leisure facility and a military hospital were built. But the area has a secret past, a haunting curse untold for 30 years. 1st Vietnamese War -1949- 12 French soldiers who were in battle with communist guerrillas went mysteriously missing. A total of 650 people have been reported missing there without any explanation. 2nd Vietnamese War -1972- 9 Korean soldiers went missing in the area. There are accounts of unexplainable radio transmissions sent by the group for 6 months requesting to be rescued. Are these freak occurrences real or not? The fact is that a gravestone which says 'No return' still stands, marking the entrance of the area. In addition, to this day, there are reported sightings by local people of the girl who was slaughtered mercilessly a long time ago. The premise of this film is based on a story that has been passed on by oral tradition. Both French and Korean soldiers have gone missing in the area known as R-Point. In 1972, when American forces were being withdrawn from Vietnam, Korean troops eager to go home, dreaming of returning to their family and friends baring American made gifts and earned money from their service, were unexpectedly sent to R-Point on a mission which would prove fatal. Although their desire to return home was everything to them, once they entered the haunted jungles of R-Point, all hopes of coming back alive were lost. It was the living dead in the jungle that would not let them go."

Which part of the English language equate "This one lady" to "random woman". No, I can't fucking read. I read TL via braille. My problem is you, and your trying to portray the creators and viewers of the film as plodding, ignorant hicks. You clearly understand basic english, and you seem to have a rudimentary knowledge of film. Therefore, you should know only one person directs a film. He didn't say the film was Japanese. Neither did the cast, which is comprised if dozens of people. The announcer at the Academy Awards did. I'm pretty sure he didn't actually work on the film. And yes, saying "this one lady" does equate to "random woman" to the reader. I was just pointing out how your stupid anecdote was bullshit.

I'll take that as your not so graceful resignation from this discussion. Maybe next time you shouldn't chime in with some useless opinion of what you think happened coupled with whatever stupid story you think goes with it.

"A mistake was made early in on the show when the awards were presented for Best Adapted Screenplay to The Departed where the voice-over announcer (Gina Tuttle) incorrectly referred to it being based on a Japanese film (presumably it was incorrect in the text she was given to read). In fact, it was based on a Hong Kong film, Infernal Affairs. However, Martin Scorsese correctly referred to the Hong Kong film in his acceptance speech for his win for Best Director. Yet, Scorsese mis-pronounced Infernal Affairs director Andrew Lau's last name as "Law"."

edit: I heard that My Sassy Girl is going to be remade into a Hollywood movie. How does everyone feel about this? I don't really like it because remakes are almost never as good as originals. The only thing that I like about the idea is that hottie Elisha Cuthbert is going to be in it.

I agree on the remake part and it's going to be so annoying to hear people talk about the movie when they've never even seen the original.

My favourite Korean movie is A Tale of Two Sisters. Beautiful, creepy and actually keeps you guessing until the end. Also, finally a Korean movie in which every scene was important and had a justification to be in the movie (your average Korean movie could easily be trimmed down to 2/3 of its original length).

It had good acting, great visual style, an interesting plot. It also had an amazing ending. Those who are homophobic (and I know that there are plenty on the internets) should probably avoid it though.

Also saw Shutter which was OK . After seeing these I'm interested in checking out other korean movies. Is block buster really the place to go here in the midlands?
