People looking at a picture of you really has not much to do with privacy. Luckily for her though people are jerking off to her picture while an ugly chick's picture is laughed at and ridiculed. She really needs to stop complaining. i dont think many healthy minded 18 year olds are happy about people jerking off to their pics

Someone took it of her when she was at a meet. On May 29 2007 22:51 Servolisk wrote: So what I'm getting is Strafe is a bastard. Hell no it's not Strafe's fault. It's not like you're ever going to date any of them, and you'll probably only meet a couple that have even seen your pics, so it shouldn't really affect her unless she lets it. If it's about feeling uncomfortable being seen in her track uniform she should either complain that they are too revealing or not be on the team. Guys don't know what it's like to be stalked, honestly. I mean, that's the real meat of the issue. It's not like she lives in a little bubble where the outside world doesn't get in. Fucked up people exist on the Internet, and they get crazy ideas that they have to go find her and ask her out or talk to her or something. That's pretty uncomfortable for a person to deal with, and I don't see why people are like "SHE DESERVES IT CAUSE SHE'S HOT"

Guys jerk off to hot chicks in their head without pictures so just actually having a picture in front of you really isn't that much different. Guys jerk off thinking about girls. Healthy women understand this. On May 30 2007 07:44 GrandInquisitor wrote: and I don't see why people are like "SHE DESERVES IT CAUSE SHE'S HOT" I don't think anyone has said this actually...

Now, even though it seems perfectly obvious to me that it's terrible, and equally obvious that you won't accept that fact, I'm going to try to explain it again. It's not just a matter of jerking off. If it was an anonymous picture, and people just jerked off to it, then fine. That's the most harm that could arise. But instead, everyone knows who she is because the sports blogger gave away her high school, age, hometown, and real name. Given that, it's a whole different world. Weird people on the Internet in the area get the idea - "hey let me go find this girl". (As a few people in this topic have already jokingly suggested.) Even weirder people develop unhealthy obsessions and crushes and morph into stalker mode. Don't think this doesn't happen - go ask any female friends you have. In my experience, it happens to most girls at some time or another, and if you don't find that scary then there's really not much else I can do to convince you.

If stalking is the real issue here then I still maintain that news coverage of this story is making it much much much worse than it would have been otherwise. I never would have known about this story probably had you not posted it here on TL.net.

As for the stalking I agree that it is scary. But so is terrorism. That might the most god-awful, hilarious, fucked-up analogy I've ever read. Listen, you obviously have no idea. You've never been stalked, neither have I, and we probably never will. But sometime, go talk to a reasonably attractive good female friend. 90%+ of the time they have been stalked or harassed in some form or another. Think Cho from Virginia Tech, who was reported several times for harassing and stalking. There's a fuckload of mentally disturbed people out there, and I hardly think she should lump it together with "terrorism". And the cases you do hear about with stalkers are usually for really famous actresses that have actually been in movies. Yeah. And the only cases you hear about people dying of natural causes are usually for really famous people, that doesn't mean that only famous people die of natural causes. I agree that to some extent, this news coverage is sending mixed messages. But the damage was already for the most part done.

In both cases you are being terrorized by a threat that most of the time doesn't actually do anything, it just causes fear. I really don't see how this analogy is that bad. Stalking might be more personal but that doesn't completely destroy the analogy. On May 30 2007 08:20 GrandInquisitor wrote: Yeah. What you're saying here is that non-famous people can get stalked too. Isn't this kind of contradictory to your point? You are saying her being known is going to cause her to be more likely to be stalked but you are also saying nonfamous people can easily be stalked too. You even mention Cho who stalked girls that weren't famous at all, he just knew them. Mentally disturbed people like Cho are going to stalk people no matter what and a lot of the time they just stalk people they've seen and actually live near. Basically my point about not worrying about stalking stands because you yourself have said that stalking can affect all women.
