Trump will do what Trump does.
As usual, a bunch of really devastating cuts to things like Medicare have been timed for after these elections, and people will absolutely feel those, and it's going to get bad. It's going to take a very serious effort to make sure that messaging around this is good and it reaches the correct people, because Trump sure as fuck won't let these cuts be repealed, same with his BBB horrific tax cuts.
Thankfully, Dems now have some very effective people to speak about this, AES is a great example, an expert who dedicated his life communicating exactly this, great win there.
Unless Iran shit stops very soon, energy crisis is going to get even worse, US and global reserves are at record lows, and it's pretty obvious that despite the propaganda and billions in adds people aren't buying that somehow that is Democrats fault.
Having a big, unpopular, stupid and expensive war with your name on it is a very sticky thing, and there is 0 chance that Democrats can be blamed for that one, well, except Fetterman I guess.
This also makes it impossible for further gerrymandering bullshit ahead of 2028, especially with all the state legislation results.
Anyhow, hard to not be cautiously optimistic at this point, there is a real and problematic uphill battle but it's all looking much brighter today then it was yesterday.

Trump will surely play the blame game hard for the next two years, either by saying Democrats are blocking his economic plan or by claiming ownership of any changes Democrats push through. Also, touching on immigration or the rights of minorities will, of course, be blown up, while those changes should still be done out of principle. The internal discussion on whose success these results were will also affect much of the next presidential candidate election. Trump just fucked things harder then usual so this wave is bigger then normal. And a slight glimmer of hope that it will be easier to un fuck this time around because ending the war in Iran and stopping the trade war is in theory easy (once Trump is out of office in 2 years)

I'm not that confident on Iran war being easy to solve when Trump still leads foreign policy and should be the one to negotiate peace deal. While Congress can take away authorisation for a war, they will have a hard time actually stopping any escalation beforehand. If Trump orders an attack on Kharg Island, for example, it will be hard to claw back any troops on it. Also, Trump can just agree to an extremely shitty deal and cry that Congress forced him to it. This creates a very nasty dynamic where the president can get the USA involved in conflicts and needs to be the one to solve them. If the USA gets into the habit of sending troops in for 60 days and pulling out because Congress orders, the damage to the military and foreign relations will still be massive.

The Iran war isn't easy to resolve even if you had complete control of the US foreign policy in every single possible way.
Iran is pissed and wants something major out of this war. The US bombed their country, blew up a lot of expensive military hardware and facilities, killed a lot of people, and even killed their leader.
All despite what Iran told everyone what they would do if they are attacked in this way. This cannot be ended by the US just going "oopsy" and leaving, because Iran won't stop until they get something massive out of this, and no one has the power to stop them.
And Iran needs something massive out of this because they need to make very sure to show to everybody that you cannot come into their country, blow up many billions worth of expensive shit, and then just leave at your leisure when you think you are done. To ever have plausible deterrence again, they now need to show exactly why you shouldn't do what the US did.

Yeah. Iran has to get a lot out of this, but I'm not sure if they want to continue attacks on other countries while the USA pulls away. While the USA may not be willing to negotiate, others in the region may want to. Military bases may be closed by the hosting countries, and even control of the strait is hard for countries outside the region to disagree on. Direct payments, frozen assets, and trade are harder things to solve with only regional agreement. This, of course, makes the other countries in the region want to pressure the US.

I think this satire article could give everyone a chuckle, regardless of their political affiliation:
Chuck Schumer Warns That Winning Goes Against the Aims of the Democratic Party
WASHINGTON — Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer warned that recent victories for Democratic candidates go against the aims of the Democratic Party, confirmed sources.
“If we wanted to win, we would,” wrote Schumer in a strongly written letter to his critics who say his leadership is ineffectual and weak. “You’re looking at a party that has lost two, count them, two elections to Donald Trump. Does that look like the work of winners? We ran an octogenarian and somehow got him to win, so obviously the best plan then was to run him again, even though he was clearly sundowning, and then switch him out for an unprimaried candidate who thought the best strategy was to win over Trump-hating Republicans while staying silent on Gaza. I deserve to be honored in the loser hall of fame for that one.”
Republican operative Stephen Miller took time away from his hobby of kicking lambs to death to agree with Schumer.
“No one is more shocked than us,” said Miller from his home in Americans’ nightmares. “This spell of victories the Democrats are seeing from candidates endorsed by Muslim mayor Mamdani goes against the natural order of things like race-mixing or people experiencing happiness in my presence. At the end of the day though, this is just a blip, and we’re expecting the Democrats to run Kamala Harris again in 2028 or, fuck it, maybe they’ll trot Hillary out for another spin of the wheel. At the end of the day, they’ll lose just like the Nazarene at Golgotha and just as then I’ll be there to witness it.”
“Barack Obama’s win basically left Democrats with a bill to pay,” said Strong from his desk at Gavin Newsom’s headquarters. “Obama was a win like the Democrats hadn’t seen since John Kennedy, and now they’re paying that back with interest. Obama promised a new direction for America, and no one in power wants that, so they pretty much reinvented loss until they had perfectly defined a model that gives monsters like Trump unlimited power with no response from the Democrats except to apologize for bruising their bully’s knuckles.”
Leader of the Democratic caucus, Hakeem Jeffries, said that their losing days were over and they would be putting all of their energies into defeating Mamdani and AOC. https://thehardtimes.net/news/chuck-schumer-warns-that-winning-goes-against-the-aims-of-the-democratic-party

I don't really think Iran is interested in having 2 carrier groups parked outside of their place fucking with their water lines.
I'm pretty sure that if USA just leaves Hormuz will be open, perhaps tolled by Iran and Oman as suggested but none of that really needs US involvement, it's pretty silly to me that we are talking about this as if USA and Iran are neighbors fighting trench warfare, US can very easily just pack up and leave, Iran will be happy because they get to recover and rebuild, there will, of course, be posturing and yelling from their side but it's not like it's in their interest in being on a war footing any longer then they absolutely need to.
The biggest obstacle to peace in Iran is Israel, because if US actually announces and starts pulling out Nethyanahu if he's still around and calling the shoots will 100 % try to re-aggravate this by new bombing runs.
If US had boots on the ground, that's a different story, but at this point US in general already lost all of it's "big bad USA will come in and smack anyone into submission in a few days" reputation, that shit is over, there is nothing left to protect, so leaving is not really that complicated anymore, as long as Trump and Nethyanahu aren't there to prevent it from happening.

Iran won’t be happy for the attacks to stop and the US to leave, they need to get something and they’ll continue blocking traffic in the strait until they do. You can’t just stop fighting and call the war over, the other side gets a vote too. The best case scenario for the US in the stop fighting scenario is other countries recognize Iranian sovereignty over the strait and start paying tolls because at least the flow of energy will resume. But that’s a best case scenario.

Well, that is basically what I had in mind when I wrote "perhaps tolled by Iran and Oman as suggested".

Trump's response on Fox last night was excellent. He said he'd negotiate with the Democrats to get stuff passed.
Matt Walsh nailed it. https://x.com/MattWalshBlog/status/2117814018614177859
What do regular Americans worry about in the first five minutes after they wake up in the morning? They worry about their kids. Their bills. How they’ll afford to pay the mortgage and fill the tank. They don’t worry about Iran or renovating the White House or any of the numerous other things Trump spent the last year rambling about. Republicans did not speak to the issues that directly and immediately impact regular Americans. They did not present a compelling plan to deal with those issues. That’s why they’re getting crushed. And they deserve it.
During Trump's entire campaign I don't think I heard him talk about Canada or Iran even once. After getting elected it is all he talked about.
This is a good result for Canadians because blaming Canada for last night makes zero sense. Had a few Republican states hit hard by Canada's counter tariffs flipped to Democrat Trump blaming Canada might make a modicum of sense.

That sounds absurd, he wouldn't do that. He is a good christian after all, and in the bible it says "You shall not lie".

Will be interesting to see what Democrats try/manage to put in front of him.
I think the two competing strategies will basically be the Obama years' "let's pass Republican legislation and shame them into supporting it (then they don't)" and "just pass the best thing Democrats can muster (given their more centrist members) and make Trump veto it since Republicans and Trump aren't going to pass anything of any positive worth regardless".
