This isn‘t just Trump though. His advisors are relevant. Not going to be a prolonged war like Vietnam either so the desired effect on the economy as a side motive remains questionable…
Is the US population so easily receptive to the warmongering propaganda ? More that the US population doesn't actually do anything if their government goes in a completely different direction.
Where other countries would see protests and disruption if their government decided to go to war for shits and giggles, the US just shrugs and goes about their business.

The only way I see a general strike happening in this Trump term is if he starts a conventional, non-nuclear war with Mexico or Canada.
Even if he goes after Greenland, I have a feeling the worse that would happen would NATO falling apart with not much else happening except strongly worded letters from EU and the rest of the "leadership" from the West. He learned from Nethyanahu, as long as you just keep yelling shit back and pretend like you are in the right Europeans won't do anything.
If, however, the US army crosses the border and tries to pull Venezuela shit in Mexico, and Mexico starts shooting back, a lot of consequences could be felt by Trump's base, including people coming home in body bags and Mexican partizans crossing in to US and doing asymmetrical warfare, at that point I could see a general strike organized demanding a stop to the warmongering and removal of people like Hegseth and Miller.
This being successful, unfortunately, is just as likely as the regime finally getting to enact what they always wanted, sicking the troops on American citizens, demonizing organizers, making them out to be terrorists etc. and pulling out the full brown shirts playbook, making camps for political prisoners, show trials and the rest of the fascist dog and pony show.
If you guys think that this would be unpopular, go read oBlade and Introverts posts about Trump sending troops to LA.

Mexico just needs to demand full citizenship and 10 new states as the only conditions for surrender and the republicans would run away. They want cheap illegal immigration that they can threaten and squeeze, they don't want ~120 million people they now have to pay social security for.
Though if they manage to gut the social protections and minimum wage then it is good for them to get an influx of workers in the race for the bottom. Hard to tell which way they would lean.

They don’t want to incorporate it. Mexico isn’t Canada, it’s full of Mexicans. They want it to be a colony like Puerto Rico. No voting rights. But the main benefit is the potential for a forever war.

What in the hell Trump is now playing on with this oil tanker arrest? It makes no sense. Appeasing Putin just to spit him into face? Is his dementia finaly resulted in enterteining turn?

Been too long since he talked to Putin. So now he is acting out to get Putin to talk to him again?

This tanker is very sus. Russia even send a sub towards it to rescue an empty tanker. I wonder what is in it.

Nothing. It's empty.

My main theories here are, this is either the consequence of the Rubio + republican hawks pushing the regime to actually take the blockade seriously even if it's Russians, or Trump is getting so emboldened by no one offering any push-back to his imperialism to the point where he thinks he can't be touched and nothing will stick.
In both cases, 2 of the worse pieces of shit in the world having a spat is a good thing, I don't think anything will actually come out of it because both of them are bullies who are happy to go after week opponents but want nothing to do with any opponent who can actually push back.
The third, cooky theory is that this tanker is not actually empty and the sub has been assigned to escort it because it's getting some Russian tech, Venezuelan or Russian VIPs or something similar out of the country, which US got wind of and wants to prevent from happening.
|
Doesn't need to be anything special about the ship. Russia doesn't want its shadow fleet screwed with because that would do actual real economic damage (and is why it should have been dealt with 3 years ago) and Russia thought that sending a sub towards it would make America back off, but the DoD called their bluff.

Maybe they would (like anyone would care, lol?), but we'd have a general strike and that'd be a helluva lot better than what we have now. A hapless, leaderless, rudderless, mess of a party with no hopeEDIT to your edit: Which isn't to say it's a bad idea, just that GH would change their mind about it when they could no longer blame Democrats for not doing it, just like how they liked Mamdani because most Democrats didn't endorse him but changed their mind after most Democrats did end up endorsing him. Supporting something doesn't mean you can't be critical of it. That's essentially every Democrat supporter here's position That said, I hereby promise that if Democrats rally for a mass general strike (more than ~10 million people minimum is necessary imo) before the midterms, not only will I hold my tongue on criticizing them, I'll work harder to get them elected than anyone here. Its virtually impossible but GH managed to find a way in which the democrats could potentially lose the midterms. The democrats dont have to do anything special to win this election. All they have to do is not chase voters away before the election. The timing of such a thing just before an election and without concrete reason other then "against Trump" would be terrible. Americans are not to fond of strikes in general. What would "winning the midterms" even mean? Do they need to get majorities in the House and Senate to do that, or just win more races than they lose regardless of the balance of power?

Reports are just coming in but ICE have killed a woman just blocks from where George Floyd was murdered.
MINNEAPOLIS (TNND) — Officials are investigating after an ICE-related shooting in Minneapolis on Wednesday morning, according to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
"My public safety team is working to gather information on an ICE related shooting this morning," Walz wrote on X. "We will share information as we learn more. In the meantime, I ask folks to remain calm."
Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin told NBC News that the incident was allegedly "vehicle ramming related."
Sen. Omar Fateh said he received reports of a shooting by an ICE agent in his district and that he was gathering verified information.
"I'm deeply concerned by reports that a doctor was denied the ability to provide lifesaving CPR by federal law enforcement," Fateh wrote on X.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey also confirmed news about the shooting, stating, "the presence of federal immigration enforcement agents is causing chaos in our city."
"We’re demanding ICE to leave the city immediately. We stand rock solid with our immigrant and refugee communities," he said.

yep murdered her in the street. claiming her trying to run was her ‘weaponizing her vehicle.’ unfortunately for them it was recorded.

It's not the same type of grotesque as the murder of George Floyd but it should provoke comparable disruptions/demonstrations
Smart people say we gotta stop protesting though, don't want to ruin Democrats chances of maybe "winning the midterms"

Oh come on GH, literally no one here said that people should not protest, except maybe you having issues with the no Kings protests, a little introspection and less persecution complex goes a long way.
I also find it very unlikely that anything will come from this, Americans have been completely desensitized to police and gun violence and the person was driving a car, which has been an excuse for police to count it as deadly weapon so they can execute people for a very long time, I wish it wasn't, but that's how it is.

(One of) my issue(s) with the No Kings protests (and those aligned with them) is that they aren't disruptive and had no intention, so they are effectively a massive waste of people's time and energy. Distinct from the actions happening in Minnesota, which we're watching unfold now.
We (like collectively as a species) need you to be wrong about (at least a significant number of) Americans, but I certainly take your point. Hard to watch the video and conclude shooting her was reasonable though imo.
To that point, Frey is on the left side of the party but far from it's fringe, and this is a reasonably strong statement in reaction.
I can only hope that there are actions to come with it.

show of force and a temperature check of mobilization potential is no intention?
get real GH. you are Amazon Prime & child brained. instant gratification is a myth, nothing worthwhile comes easy. something Trump knows quite a bit for all his incredible flaws. dude kept running to stay out of prison like the rest of his life depended on it - because it did. and. he. won.
using every dirty trick in the book, surrounding himself with generational grifter scumbag sycophants. wise up.
if you don't build it they will not come. if you keep pissing on someone else's tangible successes just cause you don't like it for superfluous reasons and do the crazies job for them in dividing a nascent movement... your "revolution" will be a stillbirth. but I guess that's great as long as the flyers and talking points will be dope.
unite or perish. the wolves are circling. dock on or get out of the way. imperfection and mightily flawed is preferable to Trump rebuilding the US in his own image, unchecked and running on the worst instincts known to mankind.

In no way, shape or form did I imply that the shooting was reasonable, in any country in the West outside of US the murderer ICE Agent would be arrested by his colleagues immediately, in the US, there are plenty of precedents which will allow right wingers to pretend that he was "fearing for his life" and there are plenty of Republican judges and jury members who will acquit him.
The Mayor can say that, and I can bet you that the response will be national guard presence to "protect the ICE agents" and this will be turned into the new news cycle that will last for days, as soon as the temperature goes down a bit the orange piece of shit will tweet or give an interview calling the deceased names, along with the mayor and anyone else protesting, any minute now oBlade will come in with his interpretation of the videos and Introvert will explain to us that this is what happens when people interfere with federal officers protecting the sovereignty of the USA from the Somali immigrant mafia.

Funny you should say that, because there's a news story today about a Teacher getting arrested in Minnesota after attending a protest about Venezuela, she was arrested on camera right after giving an interview with a reporter.
Another woman was shot today by ICE in Minneapolis and that was on camera.
So how about you stop generalizing for the entire population when clearly you have no idea what you are talking about?
