How are people feeling about the forthcoming Comey trial?

Former FBI Director James Comey pleaded not guilty to two criminal charges at his arraignment Wednesday, where his lawyers said they plan to file several motions they hope will kill the case before it makes it to a jury.

Comey, if convicted on charges of providing false statements and obstructing a congressional proceeding, faces up to five years in prison.

His team, however, plans to file at least five motions to try to have the case dismissed.

“This prosecution was brought by President Trump,” Comey’s attorney, Patrick Fitzgerald, said in court, adding that his team plans to file an “outrageous government conduct” motion.

It's a nakedly political show trial. A week before the prosecution Trump attempted to DM Pam Bondi
No action.. Nothing is being done. What about Comey??? Guilty as hell.... We can't delay any longer... JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!! President DJT
but, because this is the stupidest timeline, posted it to his feed instead. Didn't even @ her because he genuinely thought it was a DM. An hour later he deleted the post. Not only is there a conspiracy by the president to use the DoJ to attack his political enemies, he sent out the minutes of the conspiracy.

What is there really to say. We knew he was going to do this. He told us he was going to do this. It's utterly indefensible. He's doing it. To everyone who knows who Trump is this isn't news. To everyone who knows who Trump is and likes it, it isn't news.

On the one hand, he's innocent. On the other, this is Comey, yougetwhatyoufuckingdeserve.gif.

This post? I can still see it. It appears non- or un-deleted.

I'm assuming un-deleted, likely because someone reminded him that he's not allowed to delete statements issued on his social media.
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-pressures-bondi-prosecute-adversaries-now-deleted-social-media-post-theyre-all-guilty-hell
In a now-deleted Truth Social post...
Fox, CNN, Politico, MSN etc. all described it as deleted in their coverage.

Edit: I feel like you could have investigated the question of "why can I see a tweet described as deleted" using the search tools at your disposal and reached the same conclusion. Picking me up on that while avoiding the very disturbing content of the post Trump made feels like an unwillingness to engage in the issue itself.

deletion in this day and age changes nothing. he torpedoed the case - in the event it will not be thrown out anyway - and made Comey's potential defense for him.

Trump is transparently stupid and unwell. and an open book more often than not in his malicious and corrupt intentions.

Unless he gets the right/wrong cultist judge who refuses to dismiss the case and doesn't allow the tweet as evidence because its not relevant to whether or not Comey committed a crime.

Just saw trump on CNN(international) on "Roundtable on Antifa" and that the protestors in (Portland?) are Antifa and their signs(?) have very expensive wood handles from imported wood and they are too nice to have been made in some basement and that's enough evidence for "paid anarchists".

If this mfer was any dumber he will forget to breath.

Oh it's on youtube:

for the most part I think it still is.

most people don't just wake up one day and say "well let's carry water for the corruptest POTUS in my lifetime and the particular special interest group helping in my ascension".

after a lifetime on the bench or at a college going through cases and debating totalitarian systems and what enabled them, some already so old they can tell about the cold war... those people give this knowledge to the next generation of lawyers/judges and the culture there.

this hyper-partisanship is relatively new in comparison. Trump getting his ass handed to him overwhelmingly by the courts is testament to that, even from some judges he and his party pushed through.

the Supreme Court is another matter... the hyper-partisanship there did also not go unnoticed though.

I mean at this rate it will be as credible and popular as Congress in a couple of years, everybody loves Congress! some so much they storm its halls from time to time, based on lies and fun vibes.

Replacing competence with idiots is Fascism 101. You can't trust competent people, even if they claim to be on "Your Side".

Incompetence and ambition is a guarantee for loyalty.

That is what Vance, Noem, Bondi, Buttlick, Miller, Hegseth and Patel are for.

I think say, ICE’s behaviour is worse, but you can at least shroud it in the dealing with illegal migration talking points.

Comey? It’s blatantly the Dear Leader going for revenge. It’s unbelievably blatant, he’s accidentally sent DMs saying what he’s doing.

I think if Comey goes down we just gotta give up, it’s Fascism for the rest of this term, hopefully not longer.

I personally think the proof of Fascist power is not what is being done to the powerless, but to the powerful. A regular right wing Presidency could shit on illegal immigrants, but it’s the Fascist who goes after every political opponent going. And it’s the successful Fascist who can do the latter successfully.

"Fascism for the rest of this term" seems a little oxymoronish, but I pretty much agree.

To you're last point, Trump's threats of public officials are actually more problematic than we can probably appreciate as it feels like just another salvo in an unending barrage of bullshit from Trump.

The president wrote in a social media post that Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, both Democrats, "should be in jail for failing to protect Ice Officers!"

www.bbc.com

Pritzker isn't just a Governor, he's a billionaire, from a family of billionaires. Granted, they're lowly single digit billionaires, still, not exactly who you think of as "low hanging fruit". Maybe, there's a method to the madness?
There is no 5d chess.

Trump is mad at people who defy him because he is the center of the universe in his mind, doesn't matter if they are broke and homeless or Elon Musk

I don't think Trump has any strategy behind it, but his administration might. Kwark's (afterthought) sentiment:

sure. I said some judges.

in the long term she does herself no favor. again, not everyone is open to sacrificing their good reputation for a man that had none to begin with. I mean times changed sure, but a judge - one of the most serious and conservative professions on the planet - with a shot reputation and known for idiotic rulings? not many people would like to be in this position. even if you are from bum fuck FL or wherever she is from, people talk and some important doors will be closed to her.

things are bad but not unsalvageable. the public is waking up I feel like, and the more they push their authoritarian agenda the more people will push back. it is in the American DNA. not everyone kisses the boot, even if it might be on "their side".

and thank god for that.

It is incredible just how untrustworthy the US court system is (both civil and criminal). Literally no one seems to think anymore that it is about justice, or even just about applying the law.

Everyone knows it is absurdely corrupt. Everyone knows that someone with enough money can ruin you just by sueing you, no matter if they have any grounds to do so. They just need to keep on spending money until you can no longer afford to, at which point they win by default.

The whole system is so weirdly gamey that it is all about having the best players, while your case is only secondary at best. Good lawyers win cases, not being in the right or in the wrong.

And he who appoints judges wins even more cases.

Of course, this is not really new information, but still. Just like everything, it has just grown even more blatant.

Beat me to it. But even if the judiciary weren’t compromised, they’re toothless. Trump routinely breaks the law and nothing happens.

He said I'll sue you for civil rights violations and the DOJ said they would investigate the police department, and the DA said nevermind he acted in self-defense. The idea he's alleging is leftist rioters and police function as a cartel working together.

Perhaps it’s been posted before, and apologies if so but have any of you watch the long-form Hunter Biden interview

I gotta say, I think he comes across incredibly well. Almost ridiculously so, I didn’t know a huge amount about him outside of his fabled laptop. I wasn’t positively or negatively inclined.

I think both being linked to Joe Biden, and also being a crack addict preclude him from running for public office, realistically, but I found myself kind of wishing he did.

Which I must say, I went in with that as basically a 0% desire. Hell I delayed even watching the interview for weeks despite my best friend insisting it was worth my time.

Which it certainly was, I think he spoke very well on addiction. I think his ability to just ream off numbers and figures about various bodies he was involved with, in a 3 hour long interview, and those numbers generally stand up to scrutiny, well played.

sounds like (US) police alright. woke to the core and in cahoots with "Terror-Trannie Antifa".

investigate away lol.

making friends of local police - who are in your corner naturally - when you are in the process of a slow moving coup by testing with how much state's rights are worth vs federal authority... way to go. and for what?

god this is all so stupid. I think if I lived in the US I would lose my mind and hope too no joke.

I never said "defund the police." Also, I am not Nick Sortor. Nick Sortor never said "defund the police" that I know, but if he did, by virtue of him not being me, you couldn't say I said that. Also, the allegations are about, and in reference to, Portland specifically. In the US, law enforcement departments operate at municipal city/county, state, and federal levels. Indian reservations have their own laws and law enforcement but sometimes it's like one person per thousand square miles and I've never heard "defund the police" in reference to Indians. At any rate I have no knowledge of Oregon State Police and I know exactly how I feel about federal law enforcement operating in Oregon. In not a single one of those cases have I said or thought to "defund the police." I can't be any clearer so the next time you misunderstand is deliberate.

I was just reading between the lines. You appeared to think Sortor had some kind of point that the police was systematically trampling on peoples' constitutional rights (in this case those of peaceful pro-fa protestors, which is a refreshing change, I must say).

I have learnt from my time here that the usual response in the US to the police systematically abusing their power is to call for radical police reform, in the form of defunding them entirely and from the ashes build something better.

So I just jumped to the end, and welcomed you onboard! But from your vehement reaction, I understand now that you think the police is probably doing an upstanding job. So yay for the antifa police?

I think it’s potentially an important litmus test. Does the US flirt with going full Fash or just go and do it?

I'm glad he's my governor and not folding to trumps bullshit

Why engage Oblade at all?

They’re breathtakingly disingenuous, at all times.

Just ignore them. They’re perpetually full of shit. And not in a political disagreement sense, they’re completely full of it.

For example, the first or perhaps second post made upon return from self exile questioned why he was now concerned about violent rhetoric having previously scorned the very idea of stochastic terrorism, all the time, frequently.

Now he believes in it as a concept, but not wholesale. Right wing violent rhetoric is fine apparently.

They’re completely full of shit, they’re a disingenuous, sentienrt colostomy bag, there is absolutely nothing to be gained engaging them. I would recommend everyone just stop doing so, but hey those are my tastes.

I will happily engage with say, Introvert. We almost certainly will disagree, however there is some ideological playground that said disagreements occur on, and some mutual understanding that hey, we’ll fundamentally disagree on most things.

Most, I actually agree with Introvert on religious freedom, a stance that I garner some friction with people IRL.

Regardless of any of that. oBlade basically is 0% good faith at all times.

I’ve said many, many times I’d like more conservative voices to balance things out. Oblade is not remotely that
