Completely untrue description for the Tucker Carlson clip. Tucker in no way accused Trump of orchestrating an assassination on Kirk. All he said is that he hope his death isn’t used as leverage for the government to clamp down on hate speech laws and he didn’t even specify if that was about republicans or democrats. Seriously that’s how you interpreted it? Trump orchestrated his murder? How did you come to that conclusion?
I mean on the level of leaps of logic in this country after a crisis going from "hes going to use his death as leverage to clamp down on the left" to "He had Kirk assassinated to use his death as leverage to clamp down on the left" wouldn't rate that highly. Its 2025 and Tucker is far into his russian plant era, that would be right up the russian propaganda alley to use a division material.
‘Could’ isn’t ’did’.
I’m no Tucker Carlson fan, but I’m with castlee on this, it doesn’t appear he’s said such things on this occasion
after MAGA went extra crazy in their anger over Charlie Kirk getting shot dead? and from POTUS down to the the FCC Chair threatened anybody who disagrees that Charlie Kirk was a saint?
corporations caving to the government's authoritarian demands because it could hurt their bottom line or is just "inconvenient" is what they call "Gleichschaltung des Systems". McCarthyism was a bastard cousin of this.
one perceived "enemy" by one they use government power to chill speech and dissent, the lifeblood of democracy. that is taking it magnitudes further than any sizeable SJW congregation or social media company on their own ever could when they "cancelled" people.
again - the Trump admin is using the government's weight and power as a cudgel to chill constitutionally protected speech in the USofA. Xi Jinping, Putin and that fat little NK rascal are proud.
fuck that and anyone defending it. there was a hateful speaker who would be outraged. and that is giving him the benefit of the doubt as most of these MAGA gremlins only feign outrage when Democrats are in power FFS.

Yeah I just read about Jimmy Kimmel getting cancelled due to his Monday monologue. I haven't watched his monologue, but this seems to be the main part that's being used as the justification for his cancellation afaik:
It's absolutely insane for him to get cancelled over something so innocuous (and at least partially true - MAGA is obviously trying to score political points from Kirk's death), if this is really all he's been saying. Maybe he's also said more toxic and incendiary things about Kirk? Dunno.
The reason Kimmel got the boot so easily is because Nextstar is currently in talks with the FCC to acquire Tegna.
Just like how Facebook and Twitter are conveniently missing from the just now announced probe into antisocial behaviour on social media, it’s all quid pro quo all the way down.
Donald Trump said "Jimmy is going to be next" Donald Trump admin approves merger Jimmy gets canceled over absolutely nothing (meanwhile fox news hosts freely talk about euthanizing the homeless)

I think these people are all clowns and don't really care what they think. I'm guessing they just do a weave of arbitrarily being skeptical of right-wing narratives every once in awhile to look more independent, is that right?
That text conversation is the least believable thing I've ever read. It reads like it was written by my 70 year old conservative dad with chatgpt.
This feels like the end, honestly. I've been a doomer the whole time, but I think we might have arrived.
The party-of-free-speech has absolutely ripped the mask off in the last few days, and there isn't really anyone left to stop the new party-of-censorship. You just know Trump's infantile ego has been itching the whole time to go after every random person who's ever criticised him. He's been waiting for this moment his whole life.
An absolutely astronomical portion of public discourse is controlled by a handful of US companies, and they've all been busy sniffing the wind and then sniffing Trump's backside for a while now. They're not going to risk their shareholders by standing up to him in any meaningful way, not when the average citizen seems absolutely fine with it all anyway.
And when they don't, and the average citizen shrugs and goes to work the next day, that's gg imo.

Indeed this. Trump's quote from ~July 30, following end of Colbert ::
“Everybody is saying that I was solely responsible for the firing of Stephen Colbert from CBS, ‘Late Night,'” Trump wrote. “That is not true! The reason he was fired was a pure lack of TALENT, and the fact that this deficiency was costing CBS $50 Million Dollars a year in losses — And it was only going to get WORSE!”
Trump went on to claim that “an even less talented Jimmy Kimmel” will be “next up” to lose his job, followed by “a weak, and very insecure, Jimmy Fallon.”

I'm not saying that he said the thing, I'm saying it isn't completly unbelievable that he would say it given the context I provided. Castlee was asking how someone came to the conclusion.

Who on the public stage is encouraging/telling them to do something different?

Almost all of them. Remember when we had that thing a while back called an election?
If Democrats as a party have not planned anything for this situation, then they are even more pathetic. The slippery slope is moving very fast already, and being surprised by these developments is laughable at this point. Where do they think this will stop?
Ordering soldiers around is a practical step to make sure that they are under your control. Easier to remove anyone causing friction before the final push comes. Declaring Mandani or someone else to be a terrorist is an obvious way to check how people will react when they want to expand from random protesters. Some judges have already been arrested. ICE can easily expand to dealing with so-called leftwing terrorists, too.
If someone hostile is taking over your government, you should not give them time, but challenge them before they have fully taken control over everything. Organising a general strike should be the goal already.
The plan was to win the election. Some people wanted to send a message to them. They were very clear about what the stakes were back in November.
If you can't get yourself to do a simple thing like vote why would you be expected to take part in a general strike? Participating in a general strike seems much harder and more costly than filling out a ballot.
