McCarthyism was a bastard cousin of this. one perceived "enemy" by one they use government power to chill speech and dissent, the lifeblood of democracy. that is taking it magnitudes further than any sizeable SJW congregation or social media company on their own ever could when they "cancelled" people. again - the Trump admin is using the government's weight and power as a cudgel to chill constitutionally protected speech in the USofA. The party-of-free-speech has absolutely ripped the mask off in the last few days, and there isn't really anyone left to stop the new party-of-censorship. You just know Trump's infantile ego has been itching the whole time to go after every random person who's ever criticised him. He's been waiting for this moment his whole life. An absolutely astronomical portion of public discourse is controlled by a handful of US companies, and they've all been busy sniffing the wind and then sniffing Trump's backside for a while now. They're not going to risk their shareholders by standing up to him in any meaningful way, not when the average citizen seems absolutely fine with it all anyway. And when they don't, and the average citizen shrugs and goes to work the next day, that's gg imo. | ||

Ordering soldiers around is a practical step to make sure that they are under your control. Easier to remove anyone causing friction before the final push comes. Declaring Mandani or someone else to be a terrorist is an obvious way to check how people will react when they want to expand from random protesters. Some judges have already been arrested. ICE can easily expand to dealing with so-called leftwing terrorists, too. If someone hostile is taking over your government, you should not give them time, but challenge them before they have fully taken control over everything. Organising a general strike should be the goal already. | ||

If you can't get yourself to do a simple thing like vote why would you be expected to take part in a general strike? Participating in a general strike seems much harder and more costly than filling out a ballot. | ||
