You should the amount of shit talking people do against Kate Brown on her instagram. It's really eye opening on how vocal these ignorants are.

I'm not defending Trump's relentless incompetence or malicious manipulation. I'm pointing out that a state like California is economically massive enough (and Democrat controlled) to have mitigated this much better regardless of Trump and Republicans.

Also that Trump didn't spawn his voters fully grown in a vat just before the election. His voters (a majority of white women, and millions that voted for Obama btw) were adults (largely over 60) in 2016. It took decades of administrations from both parties to form the country that elected Trump. Blaming Trump for existing misses how he got where he is (which is a bipartisan effort decades in the making)

I think the problem is the large number of deeply insecure conservative counties in California who convince themselves they are being oppressed. The state government tends to go very easy on those counties and treat them like whiny toddlers. Since they don't get to determine state policy, California lets them do their own thing a lot of the time. Same with Oregon and Washington. But it's pretty stupid and has clear consequences. It diminishes the authority of the state and causes a lot of issues when the state needs to use said authority.

The whiny counties with "don't tread on me" bumper stickers need to bend the knee

These guys are in a constant state of frothing at the mouth because they are bitter about past battles, like gay rights. Same thing as when a black man became President. (many) Republicans lost their shit and the country got Trump as a counter reaction.

Meh, that is a story you can tell yourself, but it doesn't seem to match the facts. The new spread in FL/Cali/TX is driven by young people. The average age of new cases is 29 the last time I looked at it.

I wish I could see data showing whether or not the median age of person tested dropped about as fast or not. It certainly isn’t test increases.

California can't print its own currency though.

It's driven by young people who are going to bars, clubs, salons, small venues, without any face masks. It's fact that most people complaining are young people who can't stand being indoor for more than an hour a day and can't stand wearing a face mask.

Protestors are still out and about, and none of them seem to be affected by Covid since a large portion of them are wearing masks.

My point was more that the overlap of "young people going to bars" and "conservative counties in California" is not very large. The weirdos who protested the lockdown in Michigan and their ilk are, statistically, not the people driving the new cases. Its college students, and people like my sister in law who can't stand a weekend without brunch.

Also, I suspect a substantial problem is our "essential workers" who have also seemingly decided that masks are not a rule for them. They appear to be taking fashion advice from this Biden Presser.

Meh, that is a story you can tell yourself, but it doesn't seem to match the facts. The new spread in FL/Cali/TX is driven by young people. The average age of new cases is 29 the last time I looked at it.

Not fair to blame Biden for defeating the purpose of the mask since Trump didn't show him how to wear one.

I was addressing why Kate Brown's social media comments have a ton of conservatives. It is due to the victim complex that develops from living in an area with very poor cultural development within a state that is very culturally developed. The areas in Oregon that hate our governor are places that are largely isolated and...suffer from that.

I have to inform people that in WA Biden would be in violation of our mask rules. Being 6 ft away from people inside does not make it okay to remove one's mask. Because unlike being 6ft apart outside, the air is stagnant.

The idea he's doing nothing wrong is dangerous to spread and puts people at risk of contracting the virus. It does however serve as an example of how it's not just Republicans setting bad examples that are followed by their political supporters.

I'm not blaming him, I was just that picture because I knew it existed and was a perfect example of what I see when I go to any non-Costco store. I don't think people are following examples that are set by politicians per se, I think there are just people who aren't very smart and/or don't have good impulse control. In normal times there is no problem having those people be cashiers/shelf stockers. In C19 times it might be problematic. It also might not be. We don't know much about grocery store transmission.

I honestly assumed Twitter just shows a bunch of progressives to me because they've determined I am progressive. Probably just people tend to comment on things they hate, lol.

Also, I suspect a substantial problem is our "essential workers" who have also seemingly decided that masks are not a rule for them. They appear to be taking fashion advice from this Biden Presser.

Not fair to blame Biden for defeating the purpose of the mask since Trump didn't show him how to wear one.

Yeah pretty much.

Your rules say that you would not be required to wear one when seated at a restaurant. It would seem to me that it would be safe then if seated at a meeting while properly distanced.
But the big thing is that unless the photographer was from the future he would not be in violation of the rules since they don't come into effect until tomorrow.

Nope. It is just blind adherence to dollar bills. It is not safe to eat at a restaurant, 6 ft be damned. 6 ft is for brief contact, not sitting down at a restaurant for an hour. And a mask is encouraged for 6 ft.

Gas/particle physics tend to be a part of my expertise and the long story short is that time and distance can both lead to infection. If you are "properly distanced", but hang out with that person for an hour, you're probably getting sick.

Restaurants are being given an unreasonable amount of leniency because a shit load of them are definitely going to be going out of business in the next couple months. This is a pathetic temporary solution to a long term problem. And people will still get infected. The whole thing is stupid. Rather than trying to let restaurants let people dine in, states should be focused on finding ways to help businesses survive on take out and delivery.
