Some sage general advice from auld Yoda there but I’m not sure he was overly familiar with the practical workings of the US political system.
I do feel it’s a bit of a trap depending how it’s directed, too much energy expended into hating and opposing the GOP can take away from energy being expanded into other solutions.
I think Bernie appeals to people because he doesn’t sugar coat things as to where the problems lie, but he largely bypasses things by going straight to advocating what he actually wants to do. Which makes him more palatable (to me anyway) than others who present themselves merely as being better than Trump is.
If being better than Trump is the bar I mean I could be bloody present, it’s not much to enthuse people.

It isn't a coincidence their exchange is functionally meaningless yet profoundly popular among their supporters/unpopular among their critics.
Nothing wrong with enjoying professional wrestling (like any other entertainment media) the problem is when you think the show is really real, not allegorical and when it distracts you from noticing the bomb she dropped on Trump was 1 of 1000 planned to be dropped on innocent civilians around the world with both of their approval.

Part of me wishes more people thought of voting to cancel out another persons vote. I get a bit of joy when I go into the voting both imagining im canceling out one of those racist assholes votes.
Im sure theres negative consequences to this type of thinking, but I do feel like it would help turnout in areas and demographics that dont typically vote.
Do your country a service and cancel one of their votes out.

The show is real though. It’s not literally choreographed. I think there is real animosity between Pelosi and Trump. I think it’s much less “bread and circuses” (see football) and much more about Pelosi et al. just caring about the wrong things.
I think the “human” has by now become something like an empty or pure signifier. Like “democracy.” Every time it is used these days I have to wonder what it means.

A bit more data from Iowa with 75% now declared
Pete gaining round could still win both counts.
Edit:
NYT saying Pete has 40% chance to win the popular vote with Sanders 60% chance
Pete has 86% chance to win the SDE % with Sanders 14%
|
Romney is now wanting to Convict Trump for power abuse.
|
What is SDE, what is various votes, what in the world is any of this shit. How many delegates will they get?

SDE is how many delegates they get
First vote and second votes are the way the caucus works . Just look it up it’s fairly simple , but honestly not that important in understanding the results.
Essentially Bernie got more supporters first vote by far then Pete gained on Bernie in the second votes as people left their non viable candidates. Pete getting more delegates because Pete is winning in the rural areas (think electoral college)

So that would mean that is how many delegates they get? Assuming these all end up being whole numbers lol ;;;;;

Percentage of total Iowa delegates I think , the final number will be whole eventually
Let’s just be happy we vote by mail haha

I think Biden has a real chance at ending below klob, that would be a huge body blow to his chances.
|
Is there some kinda "and the winner gets +20" bullshit? Or they could really have a difference of like 1 delegate at the end of this?
|
There's major rounding that goes from SDE -> delegates. I have no idea how it actually works, based on 2016 it basically doesn't math out in any reasonable seeming way, but I'd have to imagine it is close to sde % * number of delegates with rounding/tie breaking rules.
So at the quoted %s and 41 delegates you end up with
Buttigieg 26.9 ->11.029 Sanders 25.2 -> 10.333 Warren 18.2 -> 7.462 Biden 15.6 -> 6.392 Klobuchar 12.5 -> 5.125
But obviously that needs to be reconciled into actual whole numbers. It is 39 total if you round everyone down, so 2 people round upwards hypothetically. I'm not sure how that process works, but if it's by highest decimal places then right now that would be Biden and Warren, but even very small shifts could change the actual count and for example Sanders could round up to 11.
I think at the previous 60% reporting the estimate was 10 Pete, 10 Sanders even. Maybe that still holds? The whole conversion from SDE to actual delegates is opaque as hell.
Basically until the whole count is complete it's basically a tie between Pete and Sanders and the difference in SDE is meaningless.
Even if Sanders ends up at -1 delegate, the additional confirmation of support by better first/second round numbers is probably worth more than the delegate. Not to be too media harping/conspiracy, but if any other candidate was in Sander's position and Sander's won the SDE the metric all the news stations reporting probably would be the alignments.

GOP primary rules are far less uniform, but many states do this on the Repiblican side. Some will do x number of delegates per congressional district, plus y percent based on overall state vote, sometimes with winner take all if they cross 50%.
It's done to advantage the establishment candidate and clear the field quickly so the process doesnt drag on, last time it meant Trump won a higher percentage of delegates than his popular vote share and made him harder to defeat. A small bit of karma the GOP deserved.
Iowa isnt about the delegate count really, though.
|
85% of the vote now counted in Iowa and Pete has overtaken Sanders in the popular vote as well as delegates.
Edit: appears they posted some incorrect results (WTF?) so reposting them soon.

Related to this probably
They're going to need to release the raw numbers. No way they are to be trusted with this.

Edit: appears they posted some incorrect results (WTF?) so reposting them soon. What an absolute shit show. After delaying results for over 24 hours for "quality control", they post incorrect results. What an absolute embarrassment to democracy this has been.

looks like these are the current results with 14% to go
So Pete closed in a bit on the popular vote and sanders closed a bit on the state delegate equivalents.
Edit:
NYT predicting 94% chance Pete wins the SDE, and predicting 51% chance Pete wins the popular vote 49% chance Sanders wins the popular vote
