Doesn't sound like a very compelling emergency. Why is he risking our safety and security by waiting until two years into his term to deal with the emergency? " Nettles was being unusually honest in the highlighted line. That is the point. The point was political theater. All the premises, factual claims, and assertions about the necessity of the border wall have always been theater to motivate the base. If the base gave a damn about the details they would ask. Only Libs care and they only care because they are foolishly taking the premises, factual claims, and assertions as if they are offered in good faith. They aren't! There is no point to engaging in any factual discussion of the costs, benefits, challenges, timelines, constitutionality, etc. with regard to THE WALL. They even copped to THE WALL being an idea of border security a few weeks ago. [/B]
The border security argument has lost a lot of teeth since we have seen what the hard line on border security look like and Americans really don't like thousands kids in camps. Or a NSA that lies about separating families. But I get that everyone wants to double down on the "Immigration won Trump the election" theory because it justifies all this bullshit. It just doesn't work any more because the 2018 elections proved otherwise. Just like this shutdown is proving, 25 days into 2019.

I think Pelosi has the right expectation here. Trump is going to start lying and rambling and sniffling and claim he converted America to Republicanism and won his WALL. He will just pretend there is funding for the WALL in his capitulation. Fact checkers will say "but the bill doesn't include that funding". Some paid former Trump workers at CNN will say "no, you just LIBZ, there WALL, see wurker near WALL". Some repairs will be made of an old wall near San Diego and they will run with that.
+ Show Spoiler +
EDIT: re: Plansix above: yes, this is factually correct. Anti-Immigration is not a winning issue anymore outside of the hard Trumpkin 35%. They buy this and they are the audience. This anti-immigration bullshit really is a political stinker across the entire political population, but Donald remains correct that his 35% base is committed to it. Donald got played by Pelosi into launching this disastrous and pointless shutdown by his 'manhood' comment.
EDIT2: NVM, Trump just went with the total capitulation route. I was expecting more energy. 35 day shutdown for literally nothing. He didn't even have the energy to keep some lies going. Hail Pelosi, once and future queen and master of all legislators. Boo to doubters, haters, and fakers. EDIT3: but "we reached a deal" is a lie. There was no deal reached. This is just the bill that was on his desk in early December.

Lol @ the flowers line. Pelosi is cold blooded. She has proven she was the perfect leader for this particular fight.

Russian bots on our thread?! Lol it's funny two 1 post posers with the same thing

Trumps got everyone waiting on pins and needles!
Edit: 2 minute warning!

The last 40min have probably been very intense inside the WH. No doubt a yelling match since Trump has to know he will come out of this looking like the loser. Breitbart peeps are already screaming bloody murder and saying he got cucked by Pelosi.
It's not impossible he comes out and just announces an emergency to the shock of his staff. Either way the govt will reopen thankfully.
Edit: well, calmer heads prevailed. A bill will be passed. So basically the same thing that would have happened a month ago.

I feel sort of bad about doubting Pelosi at any time. As someone pointed out a while ago, in any fictional story about politics, she would be a fan favorite. A political veteran and grandmother who terrifies powerful sexist men and manages to do it without swearing or using bad words.

Are many of the asylum seekers to the US refugees from Venezuela? I know they are pouring in to neighboring countries but can't remember if many are going all the way up. Seems like we ignored many problems brewing to the south as we committed huge resources to screwing up the middle east.

Signing a bill to open govt for 3 weeks until Feb 15, employees receive backpay ASAP, asking McConnell to put proposal on the floor. Dems are for complete border security, whatever it takes the form of. Could be a "smart" wall with drones and high-tech measures.

Bill will be voted on immediately to reopen the gov for a few weeks.
He claims both sides have agreed to talk about how to increase border security, including a wall ("or w/e they want to call it"), over the next few weeks. There will be some committee on it.
Edit: he just said we are going to build "smart walls. " Amazing. I know what he means but it just sounds so lol.

It’s about fucking time.
Now we just gotta get through the fifteenth. My hope is that the Dems allow Trump to call increased border security funding a “technological wall” so that we can be done with this farce.
Edit: “smart wall” I should say lol

The way CNN is making its headline... "Trump announces temporary halt to Government shutdown"... How much things are upside down...
|
Right, see you all in 3 weeks for this same dance...
As for talks about giving Trump money for something, I will once again ask. What do the Democrats get in return?

My guess is he won't shut down the govt again over this. This hurt him too much in the publics eyes. If he has nothing in 3 weeks he will go straight to an emergency declaration.
