I all happened yesterday at 1:00 AM. I was lost with a friend in some neighborhood in Turin looking for a concrete bar. We were a little bit disoriented and we were walking through small streets. There was nobody in the streets at that time. At some point a portal door opened and two arabians came out running(we were in front of them) One of them was chasing the other with a butcher's knife in hand. The chasee tried to throw something at the chaser and tripped, with the result that the chaser started hacking with his butcher knife recklessly. They were 3 or 4 more people still inside the portal watching it all. And we ran away and called the police into that direction.
I feel very weird now after witnessing such a thing.
You can get free police counselling in this country when you see stuff like that. Not that tl.net isn't a superior source for any medical related help but whatever, think on it.
Well, I know from past posts that TL , is a definitive source of couseling/medical assistance. In any case I just wanted to share the story, nothing else.
Awesome. So when did you hear he actually died from the stabbing? Did you hear the sound of the stabbing? Did you hang around to see what happened after?

It happened right in front of me, and we ran, since there were arab people still inside the portal looking at us. We dialed that anonimous tlfn number that they have here in italy to alert the police after we ran away.

This happened in Turin, Italy. And I haven't seen anything in the news so far.
man I feel you, when i lived in colombia I saw many things like this, I saw people get shot and staved its crazy...I never someone do it with a butchers knife thats beyond crazy.
It sucks when you see it happen and you can do is call for help and not actually help yourself, I moved to the US when I was 12. I think if I was my age now in Colombia and saw something like that I would try to stop it

jfk was assassinated in front of millions of witnesses.
assassination however i think the person murdered needs to be linked with something government related or military related for it to be an assasination.. otherwise it would be a hit.
well, i've witnessed someone being shot multiple times in close range when i was a child and i grew up fine. seeing someone getting stabbed multiple times is different and can't compare my experience with yours. but i can say you'll eventually get over it and your views of life will change with the world.

It was north from the Dora river. In some small street near corso Vercelli.
It must be wonderful to have a language everyone in the world is using to communcate. Gives you a damn good reason to stick your nose where it ain't wanted. If I saw someone killing somebody in front of me, i bet my first priority would be to figure out if itemlock of southern nebraska would call it a murder, assasination, kill, frag or homicide.

I'm just correcting the terminology used. When you see "I witnesses an assassination." then it implies that you saw a famous or prominent person being killed, which in this case, isn't correct. And where do you get off saying that I'm from southern Nebraska? Was that supposed to be an insult or something? I've never even been there... I'm from New York City if you wanted to know. I came to this thread thinking that someone famous had been killed. Murders happen everyday. Assassinations are a bit more rare. I don't think it's wrong to inform someone that they used the wrong word for future reference.

The thread is just 3 pages and already half of it is "assasination" vs "murder" and "door" vs "portal".

Yeah.. it was a direct response to the OP. If I sat here and read through every single post on every single thread that I posted on, I'd be wasting a lot of my time. I said what I had to in direct response to the OP and that's it... As for witnessing a murder... Murders happen all the time. You deal with it and you move on. It's not a big deal.
*Edit It also appears that most people have an incorrect idea of what defines an "assassination". It has nothing to do with it being silent or public. And it is not only for military or government people. And assassination is when you kill a prominent person.

wtf? youre the one that's making it a big deal
I made a simple post correcting him and now I'm getting flamed for it. I'm certainly not the one that's making a big deal about it... Had I not been flamed, it would've just been left as that 1 short sentence...
And yes, "portal" in this case is fine. And even if it was a door, a door is a portal anyway although I probably wouldn't have said "portal door". That's a bit redundant.
Assassination 1. to kill suddenly or secretively, esp. a politically prominent person; murder premeditatedly and treacherously. 2. to destroy or harm treacherously and viciously: to assassinate a person's character.
Portal 1. a door, gate, or entrance, esp. one of imposing appearance, as to a palace. 2. an iron or steel bent for bracing a framed structure, having curved braces between the vertical members and a horizontal member at the top. 3. an entrance to a tunnel or mine. 4. Computers. a Web site that functions as an entry point to the Internet, as by providing useful content and linking to various sites and features on the World Wide Web.
Dictionary.com for the win. Now scroll down a little big from the top definition:
American Heritage Dictionary - Cite This Source as·sas·si·nate (ə-sās'ə-nāt') Pronunciation Key tr.v. as·sas·si·nat·ed, as·sas·si·nat·ing, as·sas·si·nates
1. To murder (a prominent person) by surprise attack, as for political reasons. 2. To destroy or injure treacherously: assassinate a rival's character.
So no, I don't think you can close the thread seeing as how different dictionaries seem to have different definitions. Does anyone have an Oxford that we can refer to?

It was a pretty obvious joke... the tread is NOT about the dictionary meanings of these words. Assassination is done by an assassin(obviously) and assassins are professionals that get payed for it, true? Case solved.
I live near Camden, New Jersey and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Lot of fucked up shit I saw when I was like 2 O_O;; Lot of fights, occasionally shooting, etc. I SORTA know how it feels >_<;;
