I have to say that even from afar, my initial optimism of Hollande upon his election turned into a feeling of deep resentment at the failure he turned out to be. And I'm not even the one who really has to deal with the consequences of the French election, not to a large extent.

This is a good thing, no? This is a huge admission of failure. It's the first time that a president does not run for a second mandate under the Vth Republic (well, Pompidou didn't, but he had a good excuse: he died while in office). His last polls were absolutely catastrophic, his scores were between 25 and 33% of what he did in 2012. Valls, his prime Minister (who's even more right-leaning), will replace him in the primary of the PS. If he wins it, he'll most likely end up fifth or something, with less than 10% of the votes.

Good riddance Hollande. fucker deserves prison

We have 2 chambers, conservatives hold one.

Well, at least Hollande has the decency to be realistic, good on him. Now the socialist primary will be a bloodbath. I guess Valls and Montebourg are the favorites ?

nah why don't you calm down
hollande's a fucker and i'm allowed to say that if i want. i'd very much like for him to be tried and get thrown into jail a bit as a traitor but we know that won't happen. he's going to live a fat cat life with a great ass pension when all he did was fuck france over for 4 years. he deserves prison, what he's going to get is the complete opposite
so no
and of course i'm a liberal because hollande deserves to live like a parasite off tax payer money when all he did was ruin the country

Maybe Aubry will "get out of the woods" now... Frankly it's really hard to know what will happen as long as we don't have a complet elist of the attendee.

I think Aubry has no intention to run, she will endorse whoever has the best chances to beat Valls because she hates him. The list of attendees is pretty much already known: Valls, Montebourg, Hamon, and a few other little candidates.

classic condescending attitude and french arrogance, all mixed together.
i'm not defending UMP or any other french political party. I don't give a shit about sarkozy or anyone else. i'm saying hollande is shit, his policies were shit and he set back france for probably the equivalent of more than 4 years. now that shitter is going to live a disgustingly easy life until the end of his days, paid by french tax payers. what he really deserves is to be put in front of his failures and be held accountable to that. do you have a problem with that? of course you do, you're french. for the french, the notion of being held accountable for your actions is disgusting, unless of course your salary is more than X, in which case you're a nazi slave driver.
hollande perfectly embodies the french spirit, waving the white flag for 4 years straight until he could retire. mmmm that delicious social justice
edit Time to ignore someone.
There goes the white flag lol

The French seem to be the only people who can match the vitriol we Americans spew at each other when it comes to politics lol

The guy is over aggro, generalizes like hell, very interesting...

Well I mean I'm looked down upon like I'm a dog for saying that Hollande should face responsibility for his complete and total incompetence during his mandate. Go figure? geez man idk, France today is in a very, very rough spot. Literally nothing good happened, aside from gay rights (which is by the way another thing France sucks at, very homophobic country), over these past 4 years.
Our political clique is almost criminally incompetent and corrupt, I think I'm allowed to say as much.

I love reading about the different opinions in French politics. I imagine you all shouting at each other whilst eating from a charcuterie board sipping fine wine.

Not to defend Hollande (he is incompetent), but has it ever occured to you that it is really difficult to put a country on the right tracks when any kind of reform is immediately met with violent mass protests?

Belgium's pretty good at that too.
There's a pretty popular meme here: "tis al de schuld van de sossen!" Rough translation: The socialists are to blame for everything
Not the best way to start a discussion

Belgium is in a class of its own. Most of the time you guys don't even have a government.
