There are reasons which the most recent books were delayed a great deal, which is primarily about having to rewrite a large portion of the story cause it just wasnt going to work that way.
As for that game, it looks like it could either be absolutely terrible, or one of the best things ever. Time will tell.
Oh and there has been a reading from winds of winter, so I really don't think it'll be much later than late 2012 or 2013.......

I think now that he's back on track (I think he's back on track?) everything should go smoothly. This is relevant again. I'm being optimistic and going to say that it'll take two years.
I'm rewatching the show right now, Viserys is getting crowned. . . This show is so awesome. It seems to go a bit slow, though.

So I just finished A Dance with Dragons (I was new to the series and began reading them after the Game of Thrones Season 1 ended) and I had thought Winds of Winter was already released and now that I've finished the last 3 books at a pretty fast pace I'm utterly saddened that there is no more to read now.
I'm so sad now that I have to wait a few more months for Inheritance (the last book from Eragon) and a LOT longer for my next A Song of Ice and Fire fix. Gosh.
edit: Kind of leaves me with a mental feeling of blue balls tbh D:

Does not surprise me that there is already reading material since he pushed some chapters from the end of ADWD into WINDS so he probably just read some of those.

I am 1/6th through "A Storm of Swords". So far the only thing that is annoying me is that the author hinted that Nymeria (sp?) was leading the huge wolf pack in the eye area, but hasn't reunited the wolf with Arya. Arya even went through the entire area for several months. Now she has left the entire area with no reunion. I'm always think "this is going to be the awesome chapter!" or "Any moment now!". Haha, I am probably the only one that got annoyed by this.

People... there is absolutely NO chance that the book will be out in 2012 lmao
George is a very slow writer even at his fastest, and there is nothing saying he won't run into problems with this book either. It will take him atleast 2 years to write the book, prob around three. And that's at his fastest pace.
Afaik he is gonna take a few months break, then work on a dunk and egg story as well as a the companion book about the world asoiaf. I don't think he is even gonna start writing it this year, but we can hope, i guess. Then we have the actual editing and printing process when the book is actually done. that will take a few months too.
Hope for 2014, but that would be a miracle. Im gonna be omptimistic and predict 2015.

Naw man, every single goddamn chapter. + Show Spoiler [ASOS] + I thought she would become Queen Wolf or some shit, and would lead this mega-pack of wolves along with Nym. I was expecting her to go on a rampage and just be awesome she-wolf-devil. I'm still a bit sad that this did not happen. Arya-Nym reunion will be like (Jon-Ghost reunion)^5.

He's not that slow....
He wrote a massive, massive book over the course of about 6 years. Have you read his blog post about writing Dragons? He added at least a hundred pages even in the slowest years. Most of the time it was several hundred. Even when he was pushing back Dragons' release date in 2010 it was because he was adding more to the book, not because he was stuck.
Not to mention that he already has hundreds of manuscript pages pumped into the next book from chapters that were cut from ADWD.
Also don't forget about the "myreenese knot," a major writing block/plot hole that took him a long time to iron out. I would think there wouldn't be such a problem with that in the next book, since he'll probably still be writing out the plot that he worked out in his head for Dragons.
Anyway, I am optimistic myself. 2013.

You are not alone my friend. + Show Spoiler + I think we all wanted Arya to meet up with Nymeria and go on a blood filled few chapters of serious revenge... her and her little gang of stowaways and the wolves just go on to wreck havoc on Clegane and his lot. I would have loved to see Arya take down Clegane, Gendry become an awesome warrior and find out about his Dad and Dondarrion come in and save the kids. Oh well.
Those are still some of the sweetest chapters in the whole series, imo. My favourite character of that whole plot line (and one of mine in general): Hot Pie. I just loved reading about him, he would be a little bitch or say something stupid and in my head I would go "Oh Hot Pie, aren't you the cutest thing.". One of my favourite parts in the whole series is when they're in that fight in the little town on God's Eye and Arya is stabbing people yelling "WINTERFELL! WINTERFELL!" and Hot Pie is yelling "HOT PIE! HOT PIE!", still makes me giggle when I think about it. "HOT PIE!" will forever be my war cry. Oh and even better is when she gets confronted about it and someone (I think Gendry) says, "Hot Pie heard you yelling Winterfell in the battle." and she says "So what? Hot Pie was yelling Hot Pie!". Oh man... that was so awesome.

Anyway, I am optimistic myself. 2013. The funny part about the myreneese knot is that he didn't solve it or barely even addressed it in the books. We had no resolution to the entire situation in Meereen, if anything the fighting only really started. I don't think I can take another book of the same mess.
Can't Dany, Tyrion and the rest just get to Seven Kingdoms already?

Man, I loved everything about your post. ^___^ I dind't know I loved Hot Pie until now.
As for the Meereneese knot... I don't think it's as bad as you guys say it is. I'm pretty sure Khal Pono's (I think its his?) khalasar is going to bow down to Dany, considering she's standing all badass and dirty next to A HUGE MOTHERFUCKIN DRAGON. So she'll ride for Mereen, rape her invaders (some are already planning on switching sides and stuff, so she'll win ezpz), then she'll gtfo. I'm sure she learned her lesson throughout the book that she can't be a super good person (refusing to kill hostages, etc) when ruling and thigns will turn out smoothly.
Then again... I'm not even sure I know exactly what the Mereeneese knot is. Google doesn't help in this case. I think I remember reading once somewhere that it had to do with timelines staying synched up (west and east)?

Jordan spent at most 2 years pr. book, and him dying delayed The Gathering Storm by 4 years. The last book would at worst have been out at the same time as it will be now, but probably be better written. It's not that I dislike Sanderson's writing too much, but it doesn't feel right at all for WoT.

It's not exactly a trend... yet. The 3rd book was actually released in late 2000, and the 4th in early 2005. So it was closer to 3 years and change for that one, but yea that means the 5th book was over 6 years.
You new fans still have it good though. I started reading this series before the 4th book came out. >_< So yea, these last 6 whole years, I've been waiting and waiting.
It's still one of the best series out there though. I've read through the series 3 or 4 times (at least) myself. (Haven't reread Dragons yet.)

Personally I hate Dany and I think the best way to solve it would be to just kill her off. PLEASE! I've hated her chapters for so long now. I used to just entirely skip over them, tbh. She just detracts from the "screen time" of everyone else, and thus slows down events in Westeros b/c he can't spend all his time on it.
I don't give a shit about ANYONE within 1000 miles of Slaver's Bay. That arc needs a nuclear option to wrap it up, hopefully killing off all the main characters I don't like in the process.

David Weber - Honor Harrington series.
It is Sci Fi rather than Fantasy, but it's very much in the same vein as Ice and Fire, I very much enjoy both series. Not to spoil too much, but let's just say that main characters are not safe (like Game of Thrones) AND there is no absolute "good side" and "evil side." Everything is dealt with very intelligently, and winners win because they were smarter than the loser, not because they got "+10 luck" simply because they are a protagonist or "good." There are good and bad characters on both sides of the fight almost every time.
Oh and did I mention that it's 12 books strong (they aren't overly long like WoT books).

Soooo I just read the entire series in like 4 weeks....now I have to wait like 3 years for the next book. Fuck me in the ass. Second and third books were easily among the best books I ever read. Enjoyed the fourth book though even though it seems like most didn't. I read through it just as fast although it did have some boring parts. Well at least there's HBO to look forward to. That's what got me started on this in the first place.

I have learnt a vital lesson from this series.
NEVER start reading a series that isn't finished. It's just not worth the pain.
