I was thinking about chess and I began thinking of creating a starcraft chess set. I was thinking 1 could be created for each of the three races.
Be the logic of starcraft, all would have to be ground units with a non-suicide attack (so they have the ability to capture every other piece and remain alive.)
For zerg I was thinking:
Pawn: Zergling Queen: not sure King: Kerrigan(or queen if someone thought of a better king) Knight: lurker (different way of attacking than the other pieces.) Bishop: hydralisk Rook: ultralisk
blahblah anyone care to share ideas and zerg/other races.
this thread is dumb, but should be fun.

its tough because movement and strength in chess is very linear, as in queen is just better than bishop and rook
while in starcraft units have strengths and weaknesses rather than one being just better than the others
|
Terran:
Pawn: Marine Queen: Regular Kerrigan King: Duke (Battlecruiser) Knight: Raynor (Vulture) Bishop: Goliath Rook: Tank
|
Proto:
pawn: Zealots rooks: Reavers Knights: Goons (or DT's) Bishops: Temps Queen: Tassadar King: Zeratul

Protoss: Pawn: Probe Queen: Carrier King: Arbiter Knight: Corsair Bishop: Shuttle Rook: Archon

chess' piece are very arbitrary in point value. A bishop isn't exactly a warrior compared the slightly less valuable knight. In making a starcraft set its the same way, although there would be some association between piece type's point value and its power in starcraft, they do not have to be directly proportional.

You also have to pick pieces that can fit on a chess board, and are mostly vertical. Meaning a units like Tanks and Ultralisks probably would not work.
Pawn: Probe Knight: Zealot Bishop: Scout Rook: Dragoon Queen: Dark Templar King: High Templar
Protoss heroes don't really look too unique.

Zerg - just changed queen and king Pawn: Zergling - expendable light infantry Queen: Kerrigan - all-powerful and female, although Queen unit may be better for consistency King: Overlord - slow and fat, not very useful, and commands army; or the obvious Cerebrate ;o Knight: Lurker - attack mechanism, as stated Bishop: Hydralisk - ranged fire Rook: Ultralisk - power ground

You cannot have air units as pieces unless every unit can kill air.

Protoss
Pawn: Zlot (Pretty self explainitory) Rook: Archon (Protoss power house) Knight: Templar(One ht one dt) (They're like knight rank i guess) Bishop: Corsairs (Moves really fast and scouting w/e) King: Arbitor (The castle move w/ rook is like recall) Queen: Carrier (Insta win!)
Zerg: Pawn: Ling! Rook: Ultralisk Knight: Hydras Bishop: Mutalisk Queen: Zerg queen King: Overmind
Terran: Pawn: SCV (marines are range T_T) Rook: Tankz0rs! (Needless to say, tanks are linear and powerful) Knight: Goliath (counters carriers ^^) Bishop: VUlture, look at the movement... Queen: BC! King: Floating CC
|
They already have Starcraft Chess UMS, I forget what units they use for the pieces, but it works pretty well and is good just for the creative factor.
|
Hahaha the floating CC for Terran King is awesome.

Look at the clear base pieces for flying units in Warhammer.
Also: why don't people read the thread before they post something illogical? Vultures can't kill BCs, probes can't kill carriers, etc.

their already is a starcraft chess set ><
|
I actually designed a chess set for a friend's software program...

Pawn: Zergling / Zealot / Marine Knight: Fenix / Jim Raynor / Hunter Killer Rook: Dark Templar / Siege tank / Lurker -- Ultralisk Bishop: High Templar / Goliath / Lurker -- Ultralisk Queen: Kerrigan King: The Overmind: // Tassadar or Zeratul.. But Zeratul is faster than Tassadar. So, Tassadar.

Just group by some random categories
P = basic = rine/ling/lot N = ranged = goliath/hydra/goon B = flying = wraith/muta/scout R = big = tank/ultra/archon Q = flying caster = vessel/queen/arb K = ground caster = ghost/filer/ht

How does a tank/ultra/ling/lot kill a vessel/queen/arb/muta/wraith/scout?
...'cause last time I played chess pawns and rooks could kill bishops and queens. Did they change the rules since then?

yea, they changed it recently
http://www.fide.com/official/handbook.asp?level=EE101
Article 1: The nature and objectives of the game of chess 1.1 The game of chess is played between two opponents who move their pieces alternately on a square board called a `chessboard`. The player with the white pieces commences the game. A player is said to `have the move`, when his opponent`s move has been made. 1.2 The objective of each player is to place the opponent`s king `under attack` in such a way that the opponent has no legal move. The player who achieves this goal is said to have `checkmated` the opponent`s king and to have won the game. Leaving one`s own king under attack, exposing one`s own king to attack and also `capturing` the opponent`s king are not allowed. The opponent whose king has been checkmated has lost the game. 1.3 It is not allowed to capture the King 1.4 When starcraft units are used in place of chess pieces, the specific atributes of the units are lost.

Gameguard is right on the nail. Who cares what can capture what?! Jesus.... What a tight-ass...

pawn : zergling knight : hydra bishop: lurker rook: sunken colony queen : queen? king : defiler player : me

The pawns should be drones/probes/scvs because of their weak attacking nature, short range, importance w/ respect to structure, promotional ability, underestimated value, etc.

man... do it ... and i will buy your chess ! garanteed !

Just the people who posted in this thread before you. I see since you've been beaten on intelligence, you have to resort to name-calling. How pathetic.

Samir Duran should be king of zerg probably, or the overmind eyeball. Kerrigan, or queen for queen.
Protoss rashzagal for queen and tassadar or zeratul for king.
Raynor is the only true hero among the terran groups, so he would be king.
Queen would have to be uninfested kerrigan.
