Starting today we'll be showing shared community forums on LiquidDota and LiquidHearth. By doing this we hope to make the forums more inviting for participation from everyone.
Shared Community Forums
When seeing the reception to our news of moving Dota to a standalone site it was pretty obvious that we had to try and make this happen.
The forums:
- Other Games
- General
- Media & Entertainment
- Sports
Reasons for keeping it to these four:
- The concerns expressed by our users in response to our move primarily addressed these forums.
- LoL, Smash, Mafia are part of the community but they are not community forums in the same sense the above mentioned four are, as they are more like sub-communities with their own userbase. We are still thinking about other ways to incorporate them but they are not part of the current changes.
- Adding everything would be an overwhelming amount of content.
One of the issues to tackle was what to do with the icons. We decided to have an icon show for the website you were posting from. So if you're posting from TL a visitor on LH/LD needs to be able to see that you're not from there. We created some icons to show where people are posting from.
LiquidDota + Show Spoiler +
LiquidHearth + Show Spoiler +
TeamLiquid + Show Spoiler +
Since only forums can be shared and not individual threads we've put this thread into the shared general forum to show how it works.

The "Other Games" button is broken.

asked and answered. Also R1CH is a baws. :D
Edit: though I would have liked blogs and tech to be part of that too

Can I have my post count back from the older forums Plus gold pls.

Yay football for all :D World cup for all :D
|
One complaint though, I cannot close sub tabs on LiquidDota as I can on TL, so I'm forced to have that massive Community tab in the sidebar : P
|
This is excellent except for the fact that certain sites (AKA LD and maybe LH?) don't have the proper sidebar customization needed now that we have the general forums.
Also mafia isn't showing up o.o
Also the dota icon is better than my Archon :D:D:D

Great change. Should've been like that from the beginning, but fair enough. :D

How do bans work? Like if you get banned on TL are you banned on TLDota, or just from the community forums? Not that I plan to get banned, just wondering.
|
|
Very nice! Not having the community threads was the only reason I didn't like LD.

Everyone posting from LiquidDota so they increase their gold
Anyways, even though I was initially against this, I've come around and I think it will work nicely with these four forums.
|
A great feature. shall be interesting to see how the subscribe feature will handle it.

Do posts in community threads increase post count on both accounts or just the one you are posting from?
|
I no longer need to visit TL solely for the EVE thread

Clicking the timestamp on LiquidDota to direct-link to a post doesn't work (redirects to "invalid post")
Functions fine from TL though (also I can edit LD posts from TL, excellent)
Edit: Timestamp clicking fixed

Seems pretty odd not to have shared tech support.
Edit: Especially given how there isn't even separate tech support that I saw with a quick glance.

I really really hate to throw something negative in here since this an awesome change already and will make me use LD more than before, but:
1) Why are blogs not shared? Are there plans to do so?
2) Is there any way we can customize things ourselves similar to how TL used to work before the split? The thing is I still need to visit both TL and LD if I e.g. am interested in League and Dota or SC2 and Dota or I need to back to TL from LD if I enjoy the regular blogs.
If there was a way to customize things like we always could this would completely eliminate any and all of these issues for regulars. It still comes down to "If I have to visit teamliquid.net and liquiddota.net to get all the content I want, why am I not visiting teamliquid.net and [insert generic dota site here] instead?"
Having it all on one site is just so incredibly convenient and, with customization just for logged in returning users, something that can be accomplished without irritating any new users. If you don't know about it, it will look like now. If you do know about it you can make it look exactly like you personally want it to look.
|
wow if you are actually logged in on either LD or TL you can log on at LH so easy as well ..

My own guess regarding blogs : I believe the reason for not sharing the blogs is because they are often related to a specific game, say ladder experience or a particular game. Then you have blogs regarding real life events but often time they contain references to a specific game or whatnot. Also blogs, in a sense, help build a community so having them sperate makes sense to build stronger community in TL sub sites.

Attempts to substitute "Liquiddota.com" for "teamliquid.net" in the site/sidebar customization links lead to a white page that says "No" lol

I personally think that it's very good for the community as a whole if we get an exposure through other games, via Blogs.
Sure, every now and then you're going to get something so SC2 specific that Dota2 people aren't going to care, but we are all gamers and I'm pretty sure we have a lot of shared experiences that transcends a single game (even if the experience may have originated from a specific game). I think Blogs would be better if it was more about "esports" rather than a specific game. People getting a ladder rank, or having a really good game is something we can all understand as gamers.

Yeah, it's a bit odd, but eh, I'm just happy we have the forums.
I'm sure many questions went into making this decision, and obviously there's positives and negatives between adding up the post counts between all sites vs displaying them like this.
I'm sure there were other things to consider, like the icons you should show, how to implement them, does everyone from LD get the same icon, etc.

oh, I like it.
How does the post count work? It will show you the amount of posts you have were you posted (like the icon) or it will show the total of the posts?

Your post count increments on the website you used to post. So in this case you get a LiquidDota post (and the gold associated with that) but nothing else.

Hey wow. You have same post count teamliquidnet and liquidhearth. That's unfair :D EDIT: I was wrong. It just shows post count in current site that you are using

This went up a lot faster than I expected, thank you TeamLiquid!

Guess I won't be hearing anything about SC anytime soon..

Why does it show the Tidehunter icon in LiquidHearth?
|
|
Nice!
+1 to the voices asking for sidebar customization though... the community sidebar is pretty big haha
|
I thought the Jaina and Crystal Maiden icons were the same at first.

The symbol for hearth and DotA here in TL is really cool.
|
Guys, We are all united !!
|
I keep thinking the dota icon is an arbiter.
EDIT: whoah and now when I go to LD my icon is the SC one. This is weirding me out.
|
Huzzah, was wondering when this was going to happen!
|
perfect
|
Cool, now I only have to browse LD for all the TL related content I care about.
|
woohoo awesome! :D
now I guess I only need to pop back to the main site for BW news.

Sick city. Was hoping this kind of thing would get implented. I do agree that blogs and tech support should try getting crossed over as well.
|
Im sure someone have asked this before, but is there any chance to get similiar VOD section what Dota Cinema have? It would be so awsome check everything dota related stuff on one site. I guess that is just too hard keep updated?

cool change. I think this was one of the biggest problems with the original change. Only other thing as another member mentioned, is that tech support and blogs should be also shared. Blogs for the most part aren't targetted towards a specific game so sharing them shouldn't be a problem imo. Tech support is well, tech support lol.

Agreed, I'd like to be able to select whatever set of forums on whichever TL site I'm browsing. Go ahead and have them come with their respective defaults, but let us configure it as we prefer.

I just wish the TL hearthstone and TL dota had the same color scheme as this They just don't look as nice, so I still switch over to this TL for the general forums. Still nice though.
|
thanks a lot!
I was hoping for shared general blogs as well.
|
This is great! And done with such love, as always.
Thank you!
|
Nicely done. Now are we able to have liquid bet for dota matches?
I got 6k gold i want to spend...
|
|
That's great. Thank you TL
|
Nice, helps the site's open ended future.
|
This is my only complaint about liquiddota when it first started.
Amazing news!
|
Awesome, was really looking forward to this being implemented and it's great.
|
Now I might actually change to liquiddota.
It felt more like kicking people out before.
|
Yay now I can farm significantly faster!
|
So much love in this topic.
And is the first time I use the mobile version, very good job and finally worldcup thread (and gpm hihihi).

Is there a way to import subscribed threads in the general sections of TL to LD?
|
I think you have to manually subscribe to threads again

Yeah, because of that I'm still doing all my community browsing through TL. This is a great feature for people who go to the other forums exclusively though.

Wow, the forums are even using rel="canonical" correctly. Who's the inhouse SEO baller?
|
It's at little confusing that the post count seems to be website specific even in the shared community. Rather odd to see people with 0 posts :p
