those men conspired to murder, that is a crime.
soliciting an adult is not a crime.
what you are not seeing here is that THERE IS NO BOY
these men did not solicit children. they solicited ADULTS posing as children

Soliciting an adult is not a crime, however soliciting a child is, and this man is guilty of that.
But you didnt answer my question. Why call the police, just because someone broke a written sentence on a piece of paper? What would you possibly be worried about, all he did was threaten you, it's not like he actually killed you or anything. Not yet anyway. So i dont see what your problem is with being threatened with death. Just like you dont see what the problem is with a child being threatened with rape.

LOL explain me how all those guys in "How to catch a predator" are arrested then even if they didnt actualyl rape the kids and btw whats the difference of a man POSING as a child and a child if the rapist thinks he is talkign to a child his actions of raping him are the same because he believes he is talking to a kid

If i shoot a bullet at your head but it misses, am i guilty of anything? Yes, i am guilty of attempted murder. This man is guilty of attempted child rape. What possible difference is there in finding out it wasnt a child in the end? If it werent for the wild stroke of luck of this man finding a sting operation, then it would have been someone else, a real child. Then what?

I guess i'm not making myself clear enough.
The conversations took place between two adults. 1) The sexual predators 2) Adults posing as children.
I have a problem with someone threatening a child. The problem is these men never threatened children. The people they were talking to were adults. They are not guilty of soliciting children. In those chat logs, they were not speaking with children.
A spade is a spade. An adult cannot become a child simply by lying about his age.
These are the facts, and to make legal decisions based on anything BUT facts would be allowing emotion to cloud our judgement.
|
Is your only reasoning that these men should go free is because the people in disguise are adults? Would you feel comfortable with their arrests if the agency actually used real children to "solicit" these adults?
|
|
|
that is my only argument, but its a damn good one. as to your second question, of course you cant expose children to these situations so using actual children is not an option and is irrelevant. i would be 100% comfortable with their arrests if the men had solicited children. but they did not.
|
Sure using children is an option. Just have the parents agree, give the kids a little education about what theyre dealing with and what the things theyre saying mean, and use them as bait. I imagine such a job would pay more than minimum wage. All for the sake of obeying laws written by man, which were never meant to be taken as infallible, and follow them as the gospel.

lil.sis your argument sucks
say i shot a gun at you, thinking that there were live bullets in it
if it turns out the gun was loaded with a spitball without my knowing, i am still guilty of attempted murder
i'm no lawyer but intent is still punishable
which is why these sick fucks are getting relative slaps on the wrist when they get nailed by that website instead of years and years of imprisonment which they would get had they made good on their intent
edit: shit i didn't realize newbsaibot said the exact same thing i did :-P

i was gonna say this. he beat me to it. his actions clearly show intention to do it. im gonna ask my law professor if this is legal. cant see how it wouldnt be.

Everything that is great about mankind is built upon laws. They uphold the very fabric of our being, and violating them, even in the slightest, even bending or miscontruing them to any degree whatsoever, signifies the downfall of humanity. We are nothing without our laws, and we must protect and obey them at all costs. Even above his own family and children.

i'm glad you take the integrity of our legal system so lightly. do you have anything new to contribute?
|
Yes. That our legal system has been changed tens of thousands of times, to accomodate new circumstances, especially upon the realisation that some of the laws just dont work. If every law written was perfect, our fore fathers would have gotten it right the first time, and the bill of rights would be the only legal document about our rights as citizens we would ever need regarding anything on the planet. And that luckily the laws in place are designed to protect the innocent from being harmed, and not to allow a man sit back and think of a way to formally conduct legitmate and proper rape of a child, cuz if youre gonna do it, you might as well do it right, right?
|
Let me ask you something, would you ever break a law? If you were being shot at by another car while sitting at an intersection, would you run the red light? If you were stabbed in the stomach by a masquerader, and knew you were 3 miles from the hospital, would you break the speed limit to get there?
|
i agree that these men are guilty of intent to solicit children. however, some are being convicted for child solicitation. that is my main problem i suppose.
if they are convicted of anything they should be convicted of just that; intent, nothing more.
another issue i have with the site, and especially with the work they do with dateline, is that it is a violation of privacy. Just because they are scum it doesn't mean we can revoke their rights.
that's all i really have to say about this issue

how is this in any way relevant? i only represent myself with my personal actions. the actions of a court represent the entire judicial system.

well i agree that they should be convicted of intent to solicit a child. My initial snowball of counter-arguments was behind the notion that you felt they shouldnt be prosecuted for anything at all, because no actual rape had taken place. Obviously the conviction of intent alone doesnt sound like a lot, and we know that this man would have in fact raped that child, and would continue doing so until he was caught. Maybe he already has done so. I'd like to see how you'd handle telling that to previous victims, "yeah sorry i didnt do anything to help you because while it sure seemed like he was gonna rape you, he just hadnt quite gotten there yet. Thanks for being an example though!".
Hopefully intent can get you 20-life behind bars or something, although i doubt it...
