I'm sure it was a conscious decision to go for the draw, but I have no idea why. Bd4 looked really dangerous for white to me, but maybe he was sure it wouldn't be enough and wanted to save his energy for tomorrow? Really curious what he says in the press conference now.

Oh damn, that's hilarious. Well this was pretty amusing nevertheless, fight till the end! I wonder who scores the first real point, I guess the next match favors Anand a bit due to white?

But in the end, Anand comes out of this game better than Carlsen does. Carlsen achieved nothing as White again, despite getting the strategically complex game he likes to manouevre around in. Anand has the initiative atm I'd say.

I think Vishy had the advantage and could have won, but let it slip away from him. I agree with the ICC guys who said that it seems that he is somewhat afraid of getting into time pressure against Magnus and if he had taken a bit more time (he was banking a good 15 min over Magnus there) he might have found the better lines at the end. Oh well, instead he plays safe and draws again. Still a great game, and I think analysis may show that black had a winning game, perhaps with 29. ... Bxb2 or 34. ... Rf8. This will be much more fun to go over in the days to come, that's for sure!

He didn't specify why he didn't give it a shot anyway as he "normally" would, but presumably it was, as you said, to save energy.I'm sure it was a conscious decision to go for the draw, but I have no idea why. Yeah he does, but he might've gotten something concrete out of today. Anyway, he just answered the question in the press conference, he simply didn't think he could make any progress with Bd4. I still don't understand why he wouldn't just play it out though. Ronen Har-Zvi didn't like it much either ![]() + Show Spoiler + Indiana-Jones(GM) kibitzes: unreal Indiana-Jones(GM) kibitzes: he can not win a game Indiana-Jones(GM) kibitzes: match over, Indiana-Jones(GM) kibitzes: Anand telling Indiana-Jones(GM) kibitzes: that he can not win Indiana-Jones(GM) kibitzes: yup, if you not pushing here, you can not win a game / the mach
