The checkmate threat was a double pawn sacrifice. That's okay to miss, Carlsen you're forgiven.

Once you get the idea it isn't that hard to execute for players of this caliber. I think if Magnus found the first two or three moves he would have won easily. But finding the first move ofc is hard under this time control.

Depends on the situation, sometimes it's a very clear process, just your opponent can delay a lot, and you need like 5 moves just to advance one square... Say 2 bishop vs king or bishop + knight endgame. But yeah, this one wasn't one of those.

From the looks of what Jerry said, his bishop needed to be on a particular square like 10-15 moves ahead of time, and if he was a different one on the same diagonal, it wouldn't have worked. Making those sacrifices and missing something means you instant lose, so I guess he didn't want to take that risk analyzing that with one minute on the clock.

To put it in perspective, I didn't see it live (of course) but with the engine saying something was there I was able to find it no problems without needing the engine to tell me what it was. *I'm talking about the 'obvious' mate after 72. ... Rb7.

Oh geez man, I would've found that Rb1 with 3 second time controls. Pressure was too much.
