I'd like to see their proof, otherwise just seems misguided.

If it's true that everyone dopes (or almost everyone), condemning Lance Armstrong is certainly an easier option than condemning the whole sport. They may as well try to uphold the illusion, since they are in a position to fight for their livelihoods (people who run Tour De France).

Similarly, being singled out does give Armstrong the ability to genuinely play victim, if he knows everyone else doped and couldn't beat him anyway.

I think doping sucks and will eventually cause people to lose interest, or worse, search for greater extremes. I also still hold out hope there are clean athletes who compete in spite of the assertions of the cornered drug dealers who would claim everyone does it, both in an attempt to legitimize their practice and to get a slap on the wrists.

no no no no you got it all wrong. accomplishments while under the effect of doping are worth nothing. If "he did", these accomplishments don't exist.

No no no no you got it all wrong. It's still a lot of amazing accomplishments.

You dope and win 7 Tours. I double dog dare you!

When you think about it he really still win those 7 Tours because everyone else you're competing against is also doping. ^_^

don't worry guys. No one in the world will ever take this seriously. Lance Armstrong will go down in history as a 7 time Tour De France Winner, and will never be forgotton. This is politically motivated and won't stand up to any normal mans scrutinity. He is a hero and will always be one.

Is this a serious post? I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.

Cycling is (arguably) the dirtiest sport in the world and hopefully this whole ordeal sends a message to the other athletes to fucking stop this shit from happening.

If he did nothing wrong why are they taking his medals away? Cause they like to party?

The problem I have is that it's over accusations and sketchy "evidence." They're basing this off far too many unproven assumptions.

I feel the need to post the Chael Sonnen/Rogan podcast they did on doping and how the climate is every changing in sport:

I guess 5:20 onward to the next topic. It gets good around the 7:30 minute mark and it's pretty accurate.

9:40 they talk about cycling.

I don't really care if he doped or not.
Just about everyone who raced at that time was doping, probably including Lance. They will have to go through a very long list of cyclists before they can find someone who actually was not doping at that time. Stripping him of his accomplishments is just petty at this point and gives them a bad reputation with the general public, who see Lance as a hero, an inspirational man and a champion, not as someone who would repeatedly lie about cheating.

Regardless of the actual facts, I can't see this having much of an effect overall.

Personally, if I knew I legitimately won 7 tour de france's.. Then I would NEVER just do something like this and accept defeat.

This leads me to believe that he obviously did dope at one point or another.

But still, as other people are saying.. I can guarantee you like 50% or more of the people he was competing against were doping too.. lol. So its an accomplishment in one way or another.

They need to just legalize doping and see who can dope the hardest to achieve victory.. Just make it a free-for-all. That way you don't have to worry about it anymore.

After reading the article, it looks like the majority of the USADA's evidence is based on heresay and sworn testimony. This is pretty wishywashy evidence, but convictions can occur based on sworn testimony alone. That said, they probably don't have a strong case if the federal investigation came up with nothing.

Finally! The worst thing about Armstrong was that he always said he didn't cheated. I'm so glad he finally got what he deserves.

But the sport is a joke since they just ban everyone... I bet 99,8% of all Tour de France Winners doped, so just ignore it or legalize some basic Drug for everyone.
It is ridiculous, these Titles didn't mean anything when the Winner and 2nd Place just gets banned and a few Years later the 3rd is now the official Winner.
TEH FUCK?!

Well according to the OP's articles...

He's still getting harassed (after years and years, and now that he's done competing, it's rather absurd that he's still getting bugged about it), and he's declared that he's through with doing any more of these drug tests because he's passed every single one while racing in the past and he wants to be done with this nonsense. So the corporation is apparently taking this refusal to comply with another drug test as an implicit (bullshit?) admission that he's doping. I don't know how, but yeah. And that's apparently grounds for taking away his past medals, even though he won them while passing all his previous drug tests.

Something like that. That's what I got from reading the information in the OP.

I was talking with one of the IAAA instructors, and he was telling us about this very thing. Apparently dude lost his left nut while doping, and was hailed a hero after all was said and done. Apparently every sport is doping nowadays.

And you can get by doping tests, as long as you know when those tests are going to be administered.

I still don't understand this crap. Everyone cheats in every bloody competitive sport. I'm a powerlifter, and you know what they do in the smart leagues? They have an "open" division, and an "amateur" division. "Amateurs" get random drug tests, "open" competitors don't. End of story. You want to stick nanobots through your nose to make you lift more, go the fuck ahead.

We should have a world tournament akin to the olympics where athletes are allowed to take every possible measure they want to compete at their highest form. If they want to die at 25 to sprint 100m in 6 seconds, I will watch that shit.

This is a stupid witch hunt. If you have a sport where everybody dopes, crucifying the winner in a manner which the public doesn't give two shits about doesn't do anything except make you look dumb. You can't retroactively strip people of titles -- no once cares. If you want to make this effective, let him win the the title, and then dope-test him right as you're putting the trophy into his hands on national television. That's an effective measure lol -- you'd just have to find a test with 0% false positive to make that work

Cause most of Armstrong's teammates were found and charged for doping. Still doesn't mean that Armstrong was using as evidenced by all the drug tests he passed, not like Landis who failed after his win.

Yeah, since all they're going by is "He used to dope." by former teammates, they don't have much of a case.

Well he probably has a lot of free time now that he's loaded so he might as well take that drug test... unless...

I think he's trying to just put this all behind him and some specific people won't let it go. He doesn't care about a trophy he just loved what he did. He passed his drug test all those years and thy bring this up now? EPO blood doping and blood transfusions for years could do a TON of damage to his body if I'm not mistaken. The guy fought off cancer and looks healthy to me. I think this is an extremely serious case of jealousy and he doesn't want to get involved with something he shouldn't be accused of in the first place. I hope these are false to be honest but I could just as easily be wrong.

Agreed with you, I was saying a similar thing in my post.

They need to just legalize steroids for certain sports like cycling... Screw it. Just see who can dope and train the hardest! Let it be a free-for-all. At least things will be a lot more fair and competitive that way.

The war against steroids is a futile battle to fight anyways.

Does anybody know exactly what the USADA's evidence is? Because it seems like it's all accusations and no substance, but I can't find much of anything about the actual charges. It sounds like he's passed every drug test he's taken, the endless parade of accusations notwithstanding (unsurprising, given that it's cycling). If they went back and tested old, properly stored urine samples and found drugs, OK, he cheated and that sucks, but if it's just more testimony from people claiming that he cheated I can understand why the guy's getting sick of dealing with accusations when he's freaking retired.
