Two things to note:
1) I love this thing. It's smooth as hell, display looks GREAT, response is quick, apps load fast. The smoother back compared to original feels great, although it's a little more slippery (although by no means slippery) compared to the original. nexus. It's nice for landscape, but slips a bit more in one handed portrait.
It's thinner, and lighter, noticeably, compared to the original Nexus 7. It's sleek and I have had more than one person at work ask about it in the week I've had it.
2) I think I might swap mine out (good thing I got it at best buy!) I've had it restart on me randomly twice, which is no good. Other than that, EVERYTHING about the device is amazing. I love stock android

Hey guys, i'm about to change my old phone ( an LG phone that i've been using for years ) and i think i'm ready to jump into the smartphone thing.
I've been browsing through a lot of reviews and comparisons and putting together both price and utility the google nexus 4 seems the most appealling to me. I'm in China now and i found a 16GB one for 375$ ( might be able to turn it down to the real price or lower ).
Now there is just something that holds me back, the nexus 5 which is supposed to be announced 2 months from now. Dunno if it's worth waiting for just a few upgrades. It's impossible to see the difference between 13 Mp pictures and 8 Mp ones if you don't stick your nose to the screen
I want a fast device to browse internet and use QQ (chinese copy of msn messenger ) anywhere; and call of course mh
Soo would the 5 be worth waiting? It's my first time getting a smartphone; i heard people are unhappy with nexus battery is that really a problem? I'm quite used to my old LG phone that can last weeks without being charged uh

If you're in China atm also consider a xiaomi. My g/f fucking loves hers. Xiaomi has a ~2230 flagship phone, and the hongmi around like 800, pretty damn cheap.
I will say, you have the right idea not to bother with pixel count on phone cameras  Since the sensors are basically all the same tiny size, image quality really doesn't get any better.
Smartphone batteries in general are shit. If you're running with an old flip phone, it's gonna be one hell of a shock when your phone dies after 2 days idle or 15 hours of use (or worse).

i think i'm gonna stick to the nexus 4 though; gonna get it tomorrow my old phone didn't survive the horrors of the night.
Anyway i go back to France in one month ( been here to study last semester ) , and the Xiaomi hongmi is not compatible with french 3G ... so sad i would have loved to get this one otherwise ! it's like any top smartphone (from my very novice point of view and the way i would use them )
Just a stupid novice question that i vaguely looked for on the net ( apologies ): if the 3G isn't compatible it means that it won't be able to use WIFI? I mean is 3G just to get on internet from anywhere (like a corn field ) or is this also what is needed for WIFI connection?
Because as long as i can use WIFI connection and get to internet and use apps like QQ with my phone i don't care much about the rest !
Edit: uh i think i found out but i still let the question for confirmation. So 3G is for outside of the house, and if it's not compatible in France i'll still be able to use WIFI connections and browse internet like i've always done with my laptop?
If it's like this i think i'll let the nexus 4 aside and get that xiaomi hongmi ! Even if it's just to wait for the nexus 5, for 100$ i will definitely get it !

All phones with wifi can work on any wifi, no worries with compatibility there. 3G is only for use when you're outside of wifi range.
800 for a hongmi is a damn good deal, especially if it's for a first smartphone. Pretty cheap to just test out and see what you actually want in a smartphone.
That said, much of the point of a smartphone is to have internet connectivity off of wifi... but do some more research into that. I think both China and France are on 2.1GHz 3G.

Looks like it supports 1900 & 2100 3g, meaning it *should* work for you on free, orange, sfr, and bouygues.
Looking at those specs, how the fuck is this phone only 800?

I read somewhere that it's the same frequencies but not the same "software" and thus not compatible for 3G; but it's compatible with the 2G GSM.
Dunno, i'll see if i can get one when it goes out. Otherwise i'll get the nexus 4 because i urgently need that new phone

You're not exactly right about the software part, but you're right, that 3G won't work here.
I would suggest you to look at other Xiaomi phones though - http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_2s-5397.php Should be around the same price as Nexus 4 in China.

I'm still a bit skeptical about buying in China though with all those copies and second hang stories.
The place i've seen so far looks like some kind of underground market even though the boxes and everything looks nice ( and i couldn't tell the difference between the real deal and a fake )

xiaomi phones you just buy from their website. That's the only real place you can buy it.
And yea, be real damn careful where you buy a phone there.

Google actually bought over Motorola a couple years ago and the Motorola X actually looks really good. I'm feeling quite optimistic about this.

Nexus 7 FHD is quite incredible with high definition graphic and incredible speeds. Read the reviews on amazon.com if you need the details. I watch Gomtv on it with no problem (I use Firefox with flash installed).
