Tequila put me off drinking in university for a good 6months after a night of drunken ridiculousness. My liver appreciates the good that tequila has done for me in the long run...
LOL

Tequila is the most vile of all mainstream liquors.
In Hungry Hungry Hippos there are no such constraints—one can constantly attempt to collect marbles with one’s hippo, limited only by one’s hippo-levering capabilities.

If you're drinking simply to get wasted, there are plenty of of cheaper alternatives. Believe or not, people actually spend decent to outrageous prices on booze because enjoying the taste of a spirit is what counts. Don't get me wrong, I'm not judging if getting wasted is what one wants to do, I'm just simply saying that there are much better cost-effective and better tasting alternatives to drinking a bad spirit.

Almost as important as taste, quality spirits are much less likely to make you sick. Cheap tequila in particular is infamous for making people sick and causing major hangovers. Because the flavor is so unique and the smell is so strong, it's likely to stay with you for a long time. After a couple bad nights with cheap tequilla, you might not even want to be near it anymore.

I completely forgot about that aspect, but it is very true. Off topic, but the only spirit where I would go against the grain with this line of thinking would be Jaegermeister. I never quite understood why that spirit in particular is so notorious for causing bad evenings and morning afters (esp. since its only 70 proof), but maybe its because I actually like the taste of black licorice (mmmmm Ouzo).

I've only ever had patron's reposado, their blanco, and their coffee flavored tequila and i've liked all of them but it's kinda expensive for me. is there anything cheaper that is comparable in quality?

Here in my area of Sweden, Tequila got a pretty bad name, have always wondered why
I do enjoy the occasional Shots here and there, but never really found a good brand to keep with, any tips for a "fresch" tequila drinker?

Best tequila I've ever had, first time I didn't feel like puking the second I swallowed it. Me and my buddies ended up drinking the whole bottle within an hour, never found a tequilla quite like that since. Haven't tried don julio yet because of the outragous price here (twice that of jose guervo)

I like how half of the posts are people with bad experiences. Tequila is actually a great liquor. The keys are to get a 100% agave (if it doesn't say it is, more than likely it is 51% agave, which is the lowest amount possible to be called tequila) and to NOT SHOOT IT. Sip it and enjoy the flavor!

Also I want to point out this is the tequila APPRECIATION thread. So the whining posts about it probably don't belong here.

Have a Bottle of Cazadores. It's very smooth and the aroma is refined. After taste is also subtil. Quality really make a huge difference with tequilas.

El Jimador is awsome. Good enough to sip, cheap enough to mix. Quality for cost it doesnt get much better.

I tried Cazadores but found it too buttery/velvety for my tastes. It was good, no doubt, just not what im looking for.

As fate decided, yesterday we drank a lot of sauza anejo (picture in spoiler) + Show Spoiler +

and I just wanted to know of it was a good tequila or not for future references. I mean it tasted good so I would drink it again but I just wanted to ask if it is bad/good and if I can do way better or not.

Since the Blue one is actually Tequila Blanco I assume the bottles themselves are colored?

Good Tequila is actually very nice to just sip instead of shot. Especially when it gets colder outside. Or in the summer when it cools down sitting outside with a good Tequila is great.

To bad the only Tequila's that are readily available here are Don Cruzado (really shitty imo. Don't even want it in a cocktail), Sauza (only good in a cocktail or a shot imo) and Jose Cuervo. The Jose Cuervo Especial is actually very nice for what it is.

If I want a better Tequila I really have to look for it or go to a more specialized shop

TBH, not great. Its not 100% agave and is a little overpriced for what it is. If you have no other option and just want to make a margarita then go for it, its not AWFUL, but there are many much better tequilas out there for less or equal $$$.

I recomend Eli Jimador or Cazadores as a better place to start that Cuervo.

On another note I picked up a bottle of Agave 99 overproof Anejo on the weekend. Bottle at 49.5% (we like this, more flavor yo) it needs a splash of water, but its darn tasty. You can taste a big bourbon/vanilla influence from the casks, but that agave flavour is not overpowered. Only 50$ for the bottle, its worth a go. Dont put it in a cocktail though
