They keep coming in Romney + 8,300 and falling. 88% precincts are in, which means 300,000 dem leaning votes to count. http://electionresults.virginia.gov/resultsSW.aspx?type=PRE&map=CTY

It seems to have had a significant negative impact this election season What do you mean? They still are good on abortion, which is what Todd Akin was trying to talk about. I don't know what he meant by legitimate rape... someone could have ASKED HIM but I don't think they did. Republicans do not think rape is OK if that is what you are getting at. The reason social issues were big this time around is because Democrats were pushing it because their foreign policy and economy isn't exactly stellar. Obama had social issues to harp on and killing Bin Laden. Maybe some vague talks about how it could have been worse because he bailed out corporations.

I would imagine it has to do with which counties reported their results; if Obama is ahead and the rural Republican counties are in, the chances of the urban centers going Republican are essentially nil and will give Obama the win. So if Obama's ahead in the suburbs and rural areas, he's basically already won.

You can see their antiquated social views in any policy of theirs involving LGBTQ or women's rights.
