Not that it matters at all, though, since I live in Texas and my state is gonna go red anyway...I really, really hate the USA's voting system. If you're not in a swing state, your vote basically does not matter. I would much rather have popular vote decide who wins. We need to replace the electoral college with a 1 state = 1 vote system. Sadly the liberals would probably ragequit and not allow such an amendment to pass. as retarded as this is, it is basically correct. the president is not the president of the people, hes the leader of the states. IF the power of the president over the states was reduced, i could see the argument for making it more clear that states do the electing. the problem is the world has moved on in 200 years, the size and power of the US government is such that all this talk of states rights and whatever is irrelevent. the fact is the states need less power these days, in no other country do states act all independent all the time when they clearly arent. The argument that "America's government is too big, we should just allow it to remain big" has never stood well with me. The government is only as large as it is because we continue to just say "it's big, just accept it" but we need to seriously reduce the size and scope of this government and return rights to the states and to the people.

Sadly the liberals would probably ragequit and not allow such an amendment to pass. Actually if you watched the debate between Jon Stewart and Bill O'Reilly, its the republican party who generally shies away from the popular vote. When it came up to the two of them, Stewart (an obvious liberal) lauded the idea, and O'Reilly (clearly an elephant) said it would be a horrible decision to remove the electoral college. Its really no surprise, as more than two percent more of registered voter are registered as democrats over republicans, which would obviously give a benefit to the Democratic party in an election. 1 state 1 vote is not a popular vote at all, it would be very very far from it Not necessarily, it would be up to each individual state as to how they would vote. One state might have their legislature pick who they want to vote for, another might have a popular vote to decide.

Well seeing as 1 state 1 vote would be the dumbest idea ever, I just ignored it and subbed in the most popular idea to replace the electoral college.
1 state 1 vote would give a hugely disproportionate amount of the vote to states with lower population (think Wyoming with less than 250,000 people versus the millions in California). That system would just exacerbate the problems that are already inherent in the Electoral College.

The president should represent all of the states equally. How would you feel if the leaders of the EU only cared about Germany? Wrong. If this were true, Federal law would not supersede state law..it would be the reverse. America has not been a confederation since the decade after the Revolutionary war ended. Where did I say America was a confederacy?

this is already how it works, just all the states decide to have a popular election

Well, I was really excited about watching this but this woman is driving me nuts... Sounds like the last 30 professors I had in college on their rants.

Oddly enough these topics were never brought up during the debates of the two major parties, why is that?

talk of bailing out the students is such a typical third party talking point ;p it sounds good on paper and it sits well with the young and some parents / mothers but whenever a party actually gets in to power, helping the student is their last concern. so take her words with a pinch of salt. when it comes to the realities of governing, appeasing the voting blocks with the lowest turn outs isnt the way to win, so they dont.

Denmark seems to be doing really well with their free healthcare and free education and I also hear those Europeans care very much about their enviroment. Why has their society not collapsed?
And please tell me you are not an economics student.
