- I hate belts. they're not good-looking, they are not comfortable, and they're unnecessary. I have been insisting on pants that hit me just below the belly button, and when pants come up this high I think they stay up fine on me with a properly taken-in waist. so I'm going to start having the belt loops removed from some of my pants, and being sure to have the waist fit just right (alterations to 1/4'' if necessary). if this does not work and my pants are falling down, I will have to think more seriously about bracers. I have heard that bracers are the absolute best way to keep pants up (it makes sense—ensure that your pant waist is always at precisely the same height) and I am willing to take the plunge for suit pants. but I wear an odd jacket and trousers almost every day, and in this more casual dress often leave the jacket open...the bracers would show, and I'm not sure I'm ready to pull off the fuddy-duddiness of bracers with regular everyday clothes (to work, out afterwards, etc.) O_O What do you find uncomfortable about belts? I'd be cautious about tailoring the waist of my pants that closely...any variation in your body size (which can occur completely naturally just based on how much you eat or drink in one day) and you could be seriously uncomfortable. I personally am uncomfortable wearing my pants much higher than my hips and 'just below my belly button' is right out! At only 5'4'' my height definitely dictates a lower waist to maintain a top/bottom balance. On that note of balance, I feel a belt definitely helps separate my top/bottom and also gives some room extra room for creativity.

Does anyone know who might make such a thing (at a price of $200 or less)? I've hit up all the local shoe stores and haven't found anything. - check Allen Edmonds; if you find a pair you like on their site you can usually find it for less elsewhere. $200 might be pushing it (AE at $200 do exist, but are rare), but for $300 you can order a new pair (in your desired size) from AE - eBay using this search - also check out Meermin - in the US, anyway, black is not "more professional" than navy or gray, and conventional wisdon is that it is not normal to wear a black suit to the workplace. the most common and formal suit colors are dark navy and charcoal. these colors are also much more versatile than black so you are doing the right thing Any reason you didn't include Bruno Magli's in there? I picked up a pair of those maybe three months ago. They're some of the most comfortable dress shoes I've ever owned. Well constructed too.

I do business casual for work, so I rarely bother to go all out with a suit. But tonight I'll be getting ready for our office's holiday party and I will be busting out the suit for sure. Pics if I remember XD One more thing - If anyone has hair like mine that is really thick and difficult to style without ending up looking greasy or hard, try this stuff out. http://www.amazon.com/Hanz-de-Fuko-Quicksand/dp/B0081UZHE0 I like to put some of the quicksand in and then I'll put just a bit of this for some texture: http://www.amazon.com/Hanz-de-Fuko-Hybridized-Wax/dp/B0081UXXNW/ref=pd_bxgy_bt_img_z These products are both awesome. The quicksand gives your hair this almost powdery feeling and it holds insanely well. It gives a matte dry finish and it seems to just suck all the water off your hair! Read the Amazon reviews for more info. Anyone else have a favorite hair product to share? i use hanz de fuko as well, i discovered them after watching slikhaar videos for haircut ideas. try using some of their spongewax - it's gr9 when it comes to matte finish and high hold. i used to use american crew for a lonngggg time until i came across this brand. i've been using it ever since and i'm never let down, no matter what hairstyle i'm going for + Show Spoiler + ![]() ![]() ![]() if u ever need any ideas for hairstyles, slikhaar is gr9 http://www.youtube.com/user/mhrrasmus daniel alfonso is pretty good as well for those with longer hair http://www.youtube.com/user/DanielAlfonsotv I like those slikhaar guys. I wish there were stylists like that anywhere near where I live. There are some people that are good with the technical aspects of cutting hair, but aren't very creative. So I have to go in with an idea in mind, then ask them to do it. It seems like these guys could probably look at a person and figure out a good hairstyle for them.

If you get a pair of shoes from AE before the New Year, you can get a tie and belt for free. Couple conditions: >You must be a student. (If you have an ID and you're a recent college grad, that should work too) >Must have a valid student ID. >Can't do multiple belts/ties for multiple shoes. Splitting shoes up into orders won't help much, as its only one per student ID. >This goes for all ties/belts. >In-store only Not 100% sure about the credibility of this, but this comes from a guy that's confirmed to buy AEs for other people at cheap-ass prices directly from the company so I guess it wouldn't be a complete waste of time to check at a store.

At only 5'4'' my height definitely dictates a lower waist to maintain a top/bottom balance. On that note of balance, I feel a belt definitely helps separate my top/bottom and also gives some room extra room for creativity. I find that if my belt is tight enough that it's holding up my pants, it's uncomfortably tight (and if it's loose enough that it's not holding up my pants, what's the point?). I don't understand what you say about variation in body size, because any fabric (trouser waist) is more elastic than any belt (leather doesn't stretch! and adjusting between 2 belt holes is far too extreme to compensate for changes as minute as eating a meal IMO). as for the height of your waist: I'm not positive about this, but I think the conventional wisdom is that the illusion of height comes from leg length, not torso length. so (the thinking goes) by wearing a higher waist you make your legs look longer, and thus look taller. some googling backs this theory up. I apologize for not having the willpower to find some pics to demonstrate. try some pants that hit you closer to your "natural waist" (where your waist is smallest, or where your side creases when you bend from side to side) and decide for yourself.

Just a tip for people that are actually going to read this whole thread. Firstly, keep shoe trees in any shoes you want to keep nice. Secondly, go for the the Nordstrom shoe trees over the Jos. A. Bank one, imo. The Jos. A. Bank have a solid toe, where as the Nordstrom have a toe that expands. It helps keep the shape of the shoe better, imo, and thusly decreases the likelihood of creases turning to lumps. They're also less expensive than the ones from Jos. A. Bank, but they're sold out of them. http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/combination-shoe-tree-men/2934692 Since this thread is all about looking like an adult, and I've seen some absolute atrocious hairstyles recommended, take a look at GQ's hairstyle suggestions. http://www.gq.com/style/grooming/201206/best-summer-hairstyle-for-men#slide=1
