how do they stack up against brooks bros? that's where I get them from, and some PRL. problem with OCBD is that they last forever.... and i almost never have a need to replenish them

Like for a coat, will 100% wool be better as an investment, than, say, those mixed topman ones? which catch my eye actually. Except for that they're out of my size -_- again, you get what you pay for. 100% wool peacoat costs ~250-300, whereas the ones from topman cost 170. obviously the implication here is a blend of polyester/synthetics and wool keeps costs way down. Oftentimes I have trouble weighing the fit of the garment versus the quality of the fabric. I feel it's better to make a compromise in cases like this. Because denim is easily tailored, it's easy to take quality over fit; however, overcoats are really really hard to tailor. As I mentioned before, if you want to get a fitted peacoat, either: buy the cloth yourself and have a tailor make a coat to your measurements, or buy one with exceptional quality and have the tailor deconstruct it/re-sew it back together. Either of these methods take time and $$$ so a balance has to be struck. In my uneducated opinion, I think that as long as the majority of the coat isn't synthetic, it's acceptable. Reason why I extremely dislike synthetic fabrics is because the material doesn't breathe. It may be cheaper, but it's not as resistant to wear/tear and the garment will feel stuffy. In the end, it's up to you to decide what you want. Neither choice is right or wrong. Easiest way would be to walk into a department store like macy's, go to the men's section, and ask a sales assistant to measure you. I ask that maybe some of you guys could offer some basic places that are cheap but nice to shop at to build a foundation for a newbie's fashion in general. I have yet to find my style but I am attracted to clean cut stylish looks (would like a wardrobe of suits if I had the money xD) though a bit nerdy/geeky look is cool too . In other words what are some ok (friendly to wallet but good deal for quality)places to consider shopping at that isn't AE or Hollister crap (REALLY dislike them). for budget quality casual stuff, go gap, uniqlo, express, banana republic, levi's, hugo boss (not really cheap but their slim-fit v-neck sweaters are the shit) if you're really on a budget, try H&M or forever 21 men for sneakers, go aldo

Each must live as he sees fit, but sometimes I get the impression people are totally brain-washed. If some of these super expensive clothes were sold for 1/10 of the price at a no-name store, I wonder whether they would still be bought by most of the TL fashion addicts. You buy the name, not the quality. ps: Thanks for the Macklemore song, great find!

But if it makes you feel good, and you can afford it, why not. At least, that's how i've always viewed luxury expenses. I have things i probably shouldn't but i'm fortunate enough to be able to have them, and they raise my mood.

You buy the name, not the quality. that's not completely true. there's a reason why the top brands have the level of prestige that they do. they put a lot of effort into making quality products. obviously if you have the money to be buying white gucci undershirts, you're paying for brand name. some people simply like owning top-tier brand name products.
