There really isnt much to basic leather care. Condition+polish regularly will keep your shoes in great shape. As far as dressing them down, try a darker pair of jeans then the one in the picture, or a pair of grey jeans. Or if you don't plan on wearing them with a suit, dont polish them nearly as often, they are much easier to dress down when they are not as shiney. I have a pair of wingtips I pretty much only wear with jeans chinos and I never polish them.

What is your price range on chinos? From cheapest to most expensive I'd recommend looking at lands end canvas, old navy, dockers, epaulet. Remember fit is king.

I need to go pick up some conditioner, I suppose. Thanks ^^

Price range isn't really a big problem (the epaulet pairs cost about ~$150 and that's about the max, though), since if I plan to buy something that high I'll undoubtedly be wearing them for a long time. Actually I have a pair of the middle two (old navy and dockers) but the dockers ones need hemming. Old navy, though, is really damn good for the price. I might just go pick up another color of those, though they're a bit baggier on me than other pairs.

Land's end (post above) also makes good chinos. Just try on a bunch till you like one.

Also if you looking to dress down grab some darker jeans and throw on a casual dress shirt, you can't go all the way to loose jeans and tshirt with those shoes but what i suggested should do for a simple casual night out.

Thanks ^^ Will look at Land's End.

soles are black, flash just messes it up a bit.

Not sure how I can ensure the leather stays clean and doesn't get destroyed. Online only tells me to condition + polish but there has to be a bit more than that... I've also been given advice to take it to a professional to polish since its actual leather and not fake leather.

Also as a side, anywhere (stateside) for good chinos/khakis? I got to experience the Magnificent Mile but no pants came out of my excursion.

I use Obenaufs Heavy Duty LP on my leather goods. It's like 80% beeswax and a combo of other natural oils. It darkens the leather a slight shade but after a week of regular use/wear it returns to its original state. If you are looking to preserve your shoes/belt/wallet/whatever for a lifetime, I suggest multiple applications. Each application will darken it so allow time for the leather to absorb the oils before applying another coating.
A tub of it costs ~13 dollars online and it should last you at least 10+ years.

don't be put off by its shitty and unprofessional layout. Both of the aforementioned websites are run by a single person in a studio that ships handmade leather goods.
as a sidenote I bought a natural belt from Corter and tanned it myself and it looks amazing.

Hey guys, since a ton of people have been asking about chinos, I found a 20% off Bonobos promo code. It is:

canvaspop20

Additionally, you can get $25 off your $75 purchase by purchasing through this link: http://curebit.com/x/ArhOZ

That brings their pants down to a very manageable price, and they are great quality, in a ton of awesome colours, and they have awesome customer service, with free domestic shipping both ways. I live in Canada, and they were nice enough to give me store credit to cover my shipping on a suit I ordered from them. You can also call them and get measurements on whatever youre interested in. If you live outside the states and want to order, I would suggest giving them a call and seeing if they can help you out on that also!

Cost less then $10 to get hemmed at any tailor. Or you can do itself pretty easily.

I'm still looking for a tailor in my area. Doesn't help that I'm moving soon...

I actually should learn to self tailor some stuff. Hm.

For something simple like a hem, just go to your local dry cleaner.

So last night got the chance to go out with my new hair, jeans and shirt. I felt really good as this is the first time I have felt good about they way I look for a while.
Credit goes to the thread for teaching what looks good and what doesn't.
I will definitely be on here more. Thanks guys.

I recently purchased a suit for a wedding I'm going to / for life in general! I'll have some pictures up once it's finished being tailored sometime next weekend most likely. It's not charcoal grey--it's a lighter shade, I forgot what the exact name of it was, but I think it looks pretty nice. The shirt I picked out is a very soft, light blue, with a blue/grey tie to accompany it.

Unfortunately I only have black shoes, so I'll be wearing those, I really wanted brown ones but right now I'm not in a position to pay for them.

Anyways I'm very excited! As an avid suit fan it'll be nice to finally own my first real suit. Overall the whole outfit is I think a little over $1000 (the suit was 895). I can't wait to get some pictures of it!

So as summer is approaching, I feel I have an adequate wardrobe to look pretty well dressed in winter occasions, but the absence of things like layering, dress shirts, and sweaters makes it a bit more difficult to be as well dressed.

I think I'm just going to be in khaki shorts and well fitting t-shirts.

Not a lot of talk about backpacks or bags in general here, hmm..

Depends on how much you are carrying. For instance, if you were in school still, and needed to lug around quite a few books, leather backpacks always look good. Or if you just carry around a notebook and some small books, a leather book bag is always nice. A nice place to look is always JWD's blog.

Thats always a fine casual look. You can mix it up with other colored shorts too. Navy is always safe. Nantucket reds, or another bright color can work particularly with a more neutral top. Dont discount button up shirts in summer though, a 100% cotton shirt in a loose weave or even better a linen shirt can be very comfortable even in hot weather.

you can't go wrong with plimsols in neutral and versatile single colors like white, navy, grey. vans and chucks and jack purccels are great and if you want higher quality, look at common projects.
