I'm about to finalize my order with Quoddy for a pair of custom made Loafers.
Would love some input regarding the sole, or even the overall shoe.

The shoe itself would be in Chromexcel Burgundy, like this.

The style of the shoe, would match the Yuketen Country Loafer, like this.

As for the sole, it would be the Camp Sole from Quoddy, that looks something like this.

There are 4 colors to choose from: Charcoal, Gum (the yellowish one), Brick (the reddish one), and White.

I'm choosing between Charcoal and Gum. I love how the colors on the Yuketen's look. The Gum offered by Quoddy seems a little bit too pale in comparison.

Here is another picture with a better look at the Gum sole.

I realize the lighting in the pictures will affect the color contrast.
These will be casual shoes, worn with jeans, chinos, etc.

Any opinions?

@Topin- The general rule, is that you want colour on 1 half, and neutral on the other. I posted a picture of myself wearing purple chinos, with a grey sweater, and had on a walnut belt and walnut(ish) coloured shoes. The belt compliments both colours, as do the shoes, and it splits the colour from the neutral.

Likewise, if you had a coloured shirt on, you would want to go with something more neutral on your legs (charcoal, khaki, navy, etc...)

If you go to that bonobos link I put on the last page, all the models are wearing different colour combos, and you can really get a good idea of what matches. I dress a lot like the models on the website, and I enjoy bright colours. The trick is to make sure the rest of your outfit grounds it.

@Fishball- If the shoes leather is brighter, you wont want to have a darker charcoal sole. The colours wont work as well. So I would say make your decision based on the colour of the upper. Just dont get a pure white sole, it becomes obviously dirty (likely why youre looking at the gum colour instead).

Oh, I like them also

Yeah, the Burgundy shouldn't be too bright. You're also right about the White Sole, I'm avoiding it like the plague. The Gum Sole just feels a little bit lacking in tone, but I guess it will have to make due?

Some pictures showing people wearing Burgundy Loafers with Black Soles.

The majority of Google images found on "Burgundy Loafers" actually have Black Soles.
Argh, I'm torn.

Ahhh kk you want something a bit more dressy. I thought this was going to be for more casual wear. If you want to be able to dress them up, definitely go for the dark sole.

Edit* You had me confused, the contrast stitching really has a casual vibe to it. If you want them to be able to be dressed up, dont go with the light contrast stitching.

Edit #2* Ok, you did say they were for casual wear haha. Basically, if you get the black soles, theyll look out of place with light contrast stitching. If you get dark stitching also, they will likely look too dressy to pull of with a very casual outfit. If you go with the light contrast stitching, and the intent is purely for casual wear, I would go with a more casual sole to match the stiching.

Lots of manufacturers only do evens to cut down on cost (levis im looking at you) some only do single inch lengths in the most common size ranges. Buy yeah your best option is buy for waist and get them hemmed. Should run you <$10.

Side note: Levi's does do odds for waist. Dunno about inseam though. It also doesn't hurt to try on different brands. Sometimes there will be a pair that has a slightly too large waist measurement, but then you can look at another brand and find the same waist-size, except this time it fits prefectly (here's looking at you Buffalo by David Bitton).

Hi so I couldn't get a pair of the shoes I wanted and decided to buy the black ones which were left, and I got a discount

because it was a display piece and as is. But then when my parents saw the shoes they were pretty adamant that they

weren't tried on, but they were used. My dad still think's they're a good pair of shoes, but he told me he's pretty sure the

staff was dishonest and that he will get me a refund if I want one. What do you guys think.

If you can get a further discount on them, go for it. Don't worry about the wear on the soles. If you really like the shoes and if the leather is good, you can always take the shoes to a cobbler for resoling. When you get them back, they'll be as good as new.

Advice that a good fit is just about the most important thing with clothing makes a lot of sense to me, but I've been struggling to find shirts that work for me.

What you want (as far as I can tell) is a look more like this:

Than like this:

Note how the first guy has his jacket and shirt cutting in along his body while the second guy just has the shirt hanging straight down (even though you can see his shoulders are quite a bit wider than his hips).

I've been going to the gym for a while, but any tshirts in my size look like the second photo, and if I get a size smaller to get the effect of the first, they generally aren't long enough.

Any advice?

EDIT: same thing with jackets (like the one in the first photo)

Not all T-shirts are equal, look for a T-shirt or a jacket that has a cut that fits you the way you want it to.

After checking out this thread out for quite some time, I've decided to changed my attire. I wear a lot of surfer graphic tee's like I used to since High school. With bull head skinny jeans and vans. I also have some V-necks shirts also

I'll post picture of my closet later, I literally don't got anything that looks formal I would say.

Also I'm in the military, so when it comes to hair...I mainly have it shaved :[

@Lisward, those shoes are farrrrrrrrrrr from needing to be resoled, dont worry. You can tell the sole hasnt been worn down at all around the stitching. That pair was likely returned by someone after 1-2 wears. Creasing is normal in leather shoes, and it will happen no matter what. If you can get a further discount, as mentioned above, go for it. If you reeeeeally want a brand new pair, youre entitled, however, after you wear the new pair a couple times, it will look exactly like those.

@NDD, you need to look for a slimmer cut shirt. Finding really good fitting shirts is one of the hardest things to do. It takes time. At least with t-shirts, you can walk through the mall and try some on, dress shirts I found to be even more of a nightmare. I found Charles Tyrwhitt tailored cut shirts to have the best fit (dress shirts and casual button ups) of any non MTM shirt. If youre just looking for t-shirts, I only get plain ones (no graphics or brand logos etc...) and I get mine from H&M. They have a nice slim cut to them, and theyre only like $6 here usually. They are nice and thin and light also, so they work well under buttonups.

Do you have some recommendations for comfortable sneakers? Sometimes I walk quite alot in cities (on asphalt) or stand for several hours.
Currently I own these pairs (spring/summer):

Camper Pelotas Persil

Well, they are pretty annoying when you have to walk for a while cuz the soles are either too thin (camper) or too hard (adidas).
I thought about Nike Air Max or Onitsuka Tigers... any good models or other advices?

Nike Bruins? I love those so much, mostly because I'm a nerd and a Back to the Future fan. Same shoes that Marty Mcfly wore. Or Converse?

soles are black, flash just messes it up a bit.

Not sure how I can ensure the leather stays clean and doesn't get destroyed. Online only tells me to condition + polish but there has to be a bit more than that... I've also been given advice to take it to a professional to polish since its actual leather and not fake leather.

Also as a side, anywhere (stateside) for good chinos/khakis? I got to experience the Magnificent Mile but no pants came out of my excursion.

There really isnt much to basic leather care. Condition+polish regularly will keep your shoes in great shape. As far as dressing them down, try a darker pair of jeans then the one in the picture, or a pair of grey jeans. Or if you don't plan on wearing them with a suit, dont polish them nearly as often, they are much easier to dress down when they are not as shiney. I have a pair of wingtips I pretty much only wear with jeans chinos and I never polish them.

What is your price range on chinos? From cheapest to most expensive I'd recommend looking at lands end canvas, old navy, dockers, epaulet. Remember fit is king.

i have two pairs of 7forallmankind chinos i quite enjoy.
Land's end (post above) also makes good chinos. Just try on a bunch till you like one.

Also if you looking to dress down grab some darker jeans and throw on a casual dress shirt, you can't go all the way to loose jeans and tshirt with those shoes but what i suggested should do for a simple casual night out.
